This product needs more proper screening of stems and pieces of bark to use for starting seeds. The photo shows what I got in two 4" pots of the mix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm sold on this product I've been using this product for the past few years, and I've had noticeably less damping-off while using it vs. using regular potting mix. The texture is fine enough that it does not require screening, even for small seeds. The fertilizer incorporated in this mix is just strong and short-acting enough to encourage early growth, but is consumed quickly enough that it works well for seedlings like flowers, tomatoes, peppers and cucumber which can develop too much greenery and not enough blooms/fruit when grown in general purpose potting mixes with high nitrogen content. About a month after germination I use water-soluble tomato fertilizer, which works perfectly. My only complaint about this product is that it does not come in 28L bags. Next year maybe?

Is this soil sterilized?

No and I have yet to come across any packaged soil that has been 100% sterilized. By comparison however, I find that this brand has been the best regards to pests/lifeforms compared to other big name brands.
