Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what I was lookijng for! My yard backs up to a church parking lot. The slop of the land has all the rain water runoff come right down the yard. It has even run so heavy, it has gone under the garage door. When it snows, they pile the snow along the edge of the common property and that melts down into the yard too. I was going to make sand bags until I saw this barrier. We put it along the fence and the yard hasn't flooded since. I'm going to buy another one to put in the yard near the house for the water runoff that comes from our own slope in heavy rain. Now we don't have to deal with ice either since the water isn't always on the sidewalk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked better than expected I saw this product on HGTV's, "I Want That". I bought 3 different sizes, and ended up using 2 of them. If you get a longer one than you need, you can simply turn the edge over so that you can use it on an angle or sqare corner. The product worked fantastic! Much better than I anticipated. As soon as the rain came down my driveway, I no longer had to worry about the wind carrying the water over my drainage system and getting under my garage door, as the product kept it out. It's pretty amazing. Then, when done and it's dry, it goes flat and lite again. Wonderful product!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a Waste So here's what's wrong with them - I bought 2 ten footers and 2 seventeen footers - $200 worth. You really have to think about how you lay them out because once they are full of water I couldn't lift the 17 footer by myself. They are cumbersome and all of them weigh a ton. Whatever the stuff is inside is like a gel and gets on you when you pick them up. I put them outside to dry out. One month later they are hardly dry and when I picked them up to raise them off the plywood, the underside is full of ants who have laid their eggs on them. DO NOT WASTER YOUR MONEY ON THEM UNLESS YOU INTEND TO THROW THEM OUT AFTER ONE USE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it. Basement flooding was isolated to the waters entry point which I then removed and continued to control with a 1/4hp Mastercraft submersible utility pump. Took less than 30 minutes to get the situation under control. I actually used extra Quick Dam barriers to absorb remaining puddles and excess water left outside the barrier. Literally just unfolded it, threw it in the puddle and walked away. The fact they are reusable is fantastic because I now have an incredible flood kit that every household should keep for emergencies.

This product works well to seal out water (we used during a recent hurricane). The problem is that the gel inside the bags DOES leak out (some of the bags deteriorated) and drying these bags out are proving to take SUCH a long time. Please be aware that these bags need to be dried out without the sun's assistance and they take 2-3 months to dry if you intend on reusing. If you are financially able to buy and discard these bags that would work best since they take up a lot of room waiting for the months to pass for the drying to occur.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described. Great product! When heavy rain was forecast for our area we purchased these to place in front of our garage doors. We also purchased several standard bag sizes as well to block rising water. They are easy to store and lay where ever needed. As the water began to rise these bags began to expand and block water flow. They work very well in place of the heavy, dirty sand bags that only get one use! After use they are quite heavy but not sand bag heavy. After the storm we placed them in direct sun light on a hard surface for 3 days and they returned almost to purchase size and weight. We are able to keep 30+ of the used ones in a Rubbermaid storage box to keep dry until the next big storm and the box still has room for more! As the water rose we did stack more bags on top of the long barriers because they only block and divert roughly 2 inches of water. Nice to have these on hand for emergencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly the best thing I ever bought! Our driveway has a downward slope into our garage. We have 3 drains in front of the garage doors which usually do a great job of collecting the water. However, when it rains so much, so quickly they just cannot handle the amount of water that runs down the drive. We usually have to squeegee the water out of our garage, or have pumps set up and ready with the hose brought all the way to the ditch BEFORE it rains just in case. It was a pain in the neck. Thankfully my son spotted these one day while in the store. We bought 2 of them and have them span the outside of the garage doors. We've not had to worry at all. Every time we check there is NO WATER any more in our garage. It is awesome to not worry while not at home that the garage is going to flood! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not keep water out We had an issue with water flooding into the garage during strong rain storms. Originally, we'd planned to use sandbags before I came across this product. We bought several to place around two sides where water was intruding. On one side, water seeped through and pooled on both sides of barrier. We added another 17 foot length on top of the first, and this also did not keep the water out. It seems this product might be useful for redirecting a stream of flowing water; however, it is not effective for keeping intrusion out. Water seeps through.

Reusable?

After the first rain, do these “dry out” and re-inflate during next rain? How many wet/dry cycles are these good for?
Asked by: Bob
Bob, The water will evaporate out, which could take several weeks to months depending on the climate. They will shrink down and feel "crunchy". Once they are exposed to water again, they will swell back up to normal size. If you leave them in place, they are good for a season, so about 3-6 months.

I have an outdoor stairwell to my basement. There is a storm door then a main door. Previously I had 2 feet of water in the stairwell which seeped in through the sides and bottom of the main door. Can I place this product in a U shape just along the perimeter of the door frame? Or should I buy multiples and stack them? Is there anything that would keep the product pushed up against the perimeter?
Asked by: Tony
You can easily shape the dams to a “u-shape”. With 2 ft of water, I would stack one on top of the other. They are pretty easy to shape.

is this reusable have a garage door that water leaks in

Asked by: Allen
Yes it is reusable, but do not try to drive over it when it has absorbed water and if in direct sunlight, will last less than a year before it starts to break down.

Is it best to start the process of these filling up with water before it starts to rain? Or does it absorb the water and not let it run through while it's soaking it up?
Asked by: hb
Just lay it on the floor. When water touches it, it will quickly absorb and expand to form the barrier. So no need to fill up with water. Just a note - the efficacy of the barrier is roughly an year. After that you may have to buy again. That said, for the price, I think it is more than worth it.

Can this be cut size to fit in a door frame?

Asked by: CD
No- the gel would ooze out & create a mess. The idea is to place this in front of the entryway & collect & divert the water before it get's to the entryway.

If I lay 2 of them end to end will they leak at the area of joining them together ?
Asked by: JAC
Probably. Since this expands when absorbing water, I don't see an easy way of "hooking them together" to prevent a gap. Some other gap solution would have to be put in place on the "water side" to use these barriers end-to-end. They do absorb great, though. With moderate rain intrusion, ground behind this barrier stayed completely dry.

I HAVE AN AREA , NEXT TO A SHED , WHERE GROUND SLOPES , AND WATER COLLECTS , DURING HEAVY RAINS AND A FREEZE -THAW CYCLE . The water puddles , and will stay there , thru the spring, then dries up . Can I lay this down, before the heavy rains / winter snows come and have it collect the standing water or must the water be moving , in order to inflate the "dam" ?
Asked by: ICANDOIT
I have a gravel driveway that doesn't slope toward the culvert. I hoped this would be the answer but, this heavy rain it inflated as advertised but did not go back down when it dried out, so where we run over it it stays flat now. So basically it worked once. Maybe if you use it where it can stay inflated it might work better.
