Rated 1 out of 5 by from Carpenter is very frustrated. I had an experienced carpenter install this rail kit - he was so frustrated by the poor instructions and the lack of ease with which it went together. It looks great and is sturdy but definitely not easy to put together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice kit, easy enough install for handy people Easy to install kit, looks really nice. Just make sure you get an aluminum cutting blade for your mitre saw and it goes really smooth. Railings are a pain in the butt to install on the stairs as mine are concrete and not 100% perfect. Only issue in the entire install was getting the railing to fit right as the instructions do not work for uneven stairs and mounting to concrete. Overall very pleased with kit. Many compliments.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Brackets I purchased this railing to mount on brick wall for grabhold for going up exterior steps I cannot believe that you would only have three brackets for an eight foot lenght there should be four nothing less now I have to find another bracket that adds onto my already purchase of 159.00 ridiculous!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor Engineering, but Correctable The supplied mounting bolts are suitable only for through-bolting to a wall 43±1 mm thick. Such a wall does not occur in standard practice. Only one mounting bolt and mounting hole per bracket is supplied, even though a bracket exerts a torque on the substrate, which implies two forces bearing at different locations. A center-punched dimple is provided for a second mounting bolt in each bracket, but the user must drill that. Bearing pads are provided for the compressive forces (good thing) but the actual dimensions create interferences (execrable blunder), so that the user must drill an additional hole through each pad, in addition to that through each bracket. The instructions do not mention the bearing pads, so a person without relevant knowledge might omit or mislocate them, with reduced safety. The supplied screws have Phillips heads, resulting in damage to them; it is better to discard them and use Robertson screws. Once one has corrected these design blunders, the railing appears to be acceptable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outdoor Hand Rails Best investment we have made in a long time. I find it so much easier to get into the house now that my husband has installed these railings. They were easy to install, require absolutely no ongoing maintenance, and are definitely the best investment we have made since I have become disabled. We would definitely recommend these railings to anyone, particularly anyone who is having difficulty getting up the stairs to their home.

The description doesn't mention the picket spacers. Is this a different system or are the spacers included?

    Asked by: Laine
Hi Laine, thank you for your question. All components except for the posts are included in this stair rail kit (top and bottom rail, pickets and spacers, connectors). Thank you!

Can this be cut if it's too long?

    Asked by: Cait
Hi Cait, thanks for your question. Yes, these can be cut easily with a mitre saw or a chop saw with a non ferrous, high tooth count blade for best results.

how can these be mounted with a gate kit? The gate needs to be mounted to the top post of the stair railing and that leaves no room to mount the continuous stair railing. Please advise, thanks

Do you recommend that the bottom stair post be cut shorter? Your instructions make no mention of it, yet the bottom post ends up looking too long.

    Asked by: tlman46
Hi timan46, thanks for your question. Yes, the stair post can definitely be cut down to suit your preference. The die cast post top is easily removed and replaced after cutting the post to size.

Can we use the stair post between 2 sets of railings instead of the connecting post? Would like to shorten the posts to 36inches but cannot shorten the middle post that connects the railing. Would use the stair post and connect with universal connectors.

    Asked by: Frankie
Hi Frankie, As this veers far outside of our intended means of installation, I do not recommend that you do this because, not only will it waive your 20 year warranty in its entirety, but will have no engineering documentation to bring to your local building inspector that proves code compliance. Now that that has been relayed directly to you, I cannot see why the actual mechanics of it wouldn't work, you would have to cut each and every picket in order to accommodate the modified height and use the universal connectors with the stairs posts, as you've already determined. Please greatly consider my first two points before moving forward. Thanks and have a great day.
