It is important to hammer the plunger straight down or the anchor will tilt making it difficult to screw in the threaded rod. There is also a special tool that is used to hammer the plunger so it spreads out the anchor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HD does not sell setting tool Per the instructions, in order to properly set the anchor, you need to use the Red Head setting tool. Home Depot has neglected to sell the tool. I suppose you could use something else to punch the anchor, but would you feel comfortable with it over your head?

Can I use this on floor to secure shelving and a safe? If so do I still go with a 5/8drill bit?

Asked by: DIYer
Hi DIYer - we usually recommend using these anchors for overhead installation. For floor applications, we would recommend a ½" Trubolt+ Red Head Wedge Anchor, unless there is a need for shallow embedment. If there is a need for shallow embedment, then this anchor can be used according to the installation instructions on the package. If you have any further questions, please contact customer service at 877-489-2726
