Rated 1 out of 5 by from Completely frustrated with this purchase I bought this about a year ago to replace a 2.5 gal tank that I had under my kitchen sink. The time was up on the tank so I installed it today. What a disappointment. It is installed on a line that is 80ft from the inlet to my house. So 80ft of 1/2” pex, approx .75 gallons of the inlet water is at room temperature. I have it installed for my kitchen sink only, and it can’t provide hot water. With very slow flow (borderline that the unit hardly picks up that there is flow) it heats the water to 51-52 C. It takes about 8 minutes to fill a normal kitchen sink at that flow rate and that’s still not hot, and it is inconsistent as well. Once the .75 gallons of room temp inlet water is used up and it starts getting ground cold water...it’s useless altogether. I called Rheem, and on there suggestion checked voltage at the lugs and at the element, also checked resistance and all was fine. Nothing wrong with it other than it’s junk as far as I can tell. I just ordered a 4 gal tanked unit to replace it. What a waste of 450 bucks for the unit, electrical, and fittings.

Can I use this for an outdoor shower (attached to a hose)?

    Asked by: Shel
Yes but the pressure has to be a certain pressure. To much and it can’t keep up to little and it won’t turn on. Also the water has to be fairly warm to start with. It is a 1/2” NPT connection in and out.

Can this unit be used inline with the main hotwater supply to deliver hot water quicker to a sink that is a long way from the main tank ? Will it adjust it's tempurature as the incoming supply of water heats up ?

I want to use this for my dishwasher. This is the largest unit that will fit under my counter. Furnace is too far away to give hot enough water. Can I "boost" the hot water from my furnace to bring it up to the required temperature.

    Asked by: marklink
Hi Markink. Thanks for reaching out. This unit is designed as a point of use unit (for a single sink) so yes, I could see it as a 'booster' for a dishwasher. Hope this helps. Cheers. Mike.

Will this system handle hot water needs for cabin drawing water from well in Newfoundland. Water demands include 2 sinks, 1 shower and washing machine supporting two people during summer months? Power from solar panels using batteries and gas generator as

    Asked by: Eric
Hi Eric. Thanks for reaching out. Would suggest a more powerful unit, as this would only do a sink. You can use the following as a rough guide. 18kW unit = 1 shower at a time, 2 x 40 amp breaker. 27kW unit = 1 shower and 1 sink at a time, 3 x 40 amp breaker. 36kW unit = 2 showers at a time, 4 x 40 amp breaker. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Waited over 45 minutes on hold and was transferred TWICE so trying here. Will the Rheem 6Kw Electric tankless water heater work with well water or is that is too cold for it to heat sufficiently? Will the unit hold up long term to hard water?

    Asked by: Deanna
Hi Deanna. Thanks for reaching out. If this is a seasonal vacation property (running off a well), this unit would be ideal for a point of use solution (under a sink). If not, I would recommend a more powerful unit. If you are on a well, water pressure is another consideration. Consult your installer to insure that the water pressure created by your pump is adequate. Rheem always recommends that tankless units be used with a water softner, especially in hard water situations. Hope this helps. Cheers.

    Asked by: ANDY
Hi Andy. Thanks for reaching out. No. This unit is a point of use solution (one sink). If you are looking for a whole home tankless solution, I would recommend our gas or propane options (Home Depot Numbers 1000730128, and, 1000857290). Hope this helps. Cheers.
