Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hot Water Tank I spent some time reviewing the various hot water tank (HWT) solutions and decided on the the Rheem Marathon. Initially it wasn't available, but after a couple of weeks checking back, it became available again. It was only available online. I ordered it, and it was delivered to my house without issue. I was instantly attracted to this tank since it was not made of steel and had no anode rod to periodically replace. Yes, it's more expensive up front then a regular steel HWT, but it should cost less in the long run. It comes with a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser. I installed the tank myself. Very easy to do (especially if you have PEX water pipes) after checking a couple YouTube videos. It's also much lighter then a standard steel HWT which made it easy to get in the basement and into position to hook up. The only maintenance that will likely be required on this tank will be the heater elements which of course, are metal and will over time build up with mineral deposits and at some point, fail. That will likely be a long time away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hopefully it lasts a lifetime Good so far. Seems like it's well built. Lots of insulation. I'll see how much my electric bill goes up in cost to run the unit

without the Anode, is there a concern about the elements corroding?

Asked by: DP25
if the question was for a Marathon then I am not sure why that answer was given - Marathon is a non-metal tank so it will not rust/corrode. As for the element, I am getting a Marathon (after weeks of research) - only thing I found about elements was 1) some people reported them burning out after 2-3 years (but so do a lot of elements on any water heater) and 2) they are non standard size so generic elements usually do not fit. Also be careful of the warranty - apparently Rheem starts warranty based on manufacture date vs installation date - a bit sneaky if you ask me.

Does this product (model # 595726/store sku # 1001070393) have a Thermally fused upper element for protections against dry fire and a Titanium lower element for resistance to lime build up?

Asked by: Jeff
Hi Jeff, Thank you for your question. The upper element is thermally fused and does offer some protection against dry-firing. If you did happen to dry-fire your tank, the element may not fry as quickly, but there is no guarantee that dry-firing won't occur. The lower titanium element does offer superior resistance to lime build-up. Thank you, Rheem Canada
