With not many short 50 gallon residential units available, I found this unit to be the best priced for the specs. It fits my basement setup perfectly and was very easy to install. For a family of 5, I wouldn't have gone any smaller as this unit is sufficient. I like the electric lighter (versus a pilot) as well as the intelligent electric troubleshooting indicator light & its accompanying codes (although I hope I don't have to use it). It doesn't get 5 stars because I need to set the temperature well above hot in order to have the water hot enough in my showers (faucets are fine). This does pose a concern for longevity as well as too hot faucet water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rheem Water Heater and horrible Customer Service. I own a Heating and Air Conditioning Business and I purchased this for a Customers house. After the installation and tank full of water it would not ignite. The Vapour Sensor was faulty right from the get go. No big deal just run to Home Depot where I bout it and get a new sensor right??? WRONG! Home Depot does not even carry parts for it and were completely useless in helping me. They literally have zero clue about the products they sell. I had to travel an hour outta town to a Distributer that had them in stock and paid $75 out of my pocket to get a new one for the customer cause unlike Home Depot I won't leave my Customers hanging without hot water when they buy a BRAND NEW unit from me. Get you act together HD not impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems like a great water heater so far. Purchased it, picked it up and brought it home. Took about an hour to install the pipes/fittings. Once it was installed I filled it and plugged it in. After a few beeps, it fired up and within 20 minutes, HOT water. I used to have about 15 minutes of hot water (40 gal tank) and chase the mixture dial the whole time to keep it hot/warm until nothing but the hot water was on (and it would still go cold within 15 min). Now, I set it at a nice temp and take a 20 minute shower and never have to touch the hot/cold mixture until I shut it off to get out. Seems like it has hot water forever. No issues so far and I highly recommend it.

They refused to adjust the gas line to fit the new tank, instead bent it over to fit the new connection location, stressing the gas line at its threaded joint above in a way that looks like may eventually split! they refuse to correct it and refuse to have a different installer come to inspect it. Do not use their installers! In response to my concerns and request for it’s correction, they simply say they stand by their installers. This was after paying approximate $700 just for the install portion of the purchase.

Was told be Rheem 3 weeks for the part, called around the city-only one company stocks parts-Emco - no stock at least 3 weeks called home depot asked if I could take a part off a tank that they had in stock-No End result went and purchased a John wood tank and was up and running the same day So what good it the warranty if you have to wait 3 weeks

Installed this tank 3 years ago ... tank shuts down a couple of weeks ago ... with help of YouTube I diagnosed as a faulty "flammable vapor sensor", part number SP20172 ... I call Rheem tech services since the tank has a 12 year warranty ... only to be told that this part is not warrantied in Canada ... I asked if it was in the US and apparently yes it is ... but because the tank was sold and resides in Canada it is not a covered part. How can that be ... really? I asked to speak with the supervisor who confirmed ... not covered in Canada ... so what good is the 12 year warranty? So beware, they do not stand behind their product, I will never buy Rheem again My resolution ... I was able to by one off Amazon for <$50 ... and the gas valve reset procedure is on YouTube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solution for downsizing. My 75 gallon Rheem Fury finally died at the GRAND old age of 32. I wanted to downsize to a 50 gallon since it was now just for two people- my wife and myself. I learned that because of venting requirements its almost impossible to go taller and the 50 gallon short that was in stock was only a 6 year model. The 12 year platinum premium was recommended but I'd have to wait a bit. 20 days later the Gray Beauty arrived and was expertly installed by Delta- Home Depots install group. Was showering (2 in a row) washing clothes one hour after install. So far. So good. Very pleased. Will let you know if it's as good as its predecessor in 32 years from now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend this purchase. I bought this product from Home Depot and installed it myself. It was a larger tank than my old one so it took a while to move the pipes, but we expected that. What we did not expect is that once we filled the tank the anode rod bolted to the top would start shooting water out of it. The anode rod was stripped out and the product was faulty. We called Rheem as the product was under a 12 year limited warranty and we had JUST bought it. Rheem told US how to fix it and refused to send anyone out to help us fix it, so really, having any type of warranty is useless. I exchanged the old one for a new one, the new one works fine but the first one was a piece of garbage, and the fact that Rheem refused to help in any way for their faulty product makes me think you should get a different product.

My new Rheem Performance Platnium 40 gal gas water heater make very loud rumbling noise each time it starts to fire up the gas to heat the water. Is this normal? It has done this since day one. Is something wrong with the burner?
