Rated 5 out of 5 by from From electric to gas, beat unit. It’s only been 2 weeks installed but already seeing the positive results by going to gas from electric. Unit is quiet and we’ve never had so much consistent hot water before. From empty tank to hot water is about 1 hour tops. Two thumbs up for this unit!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rheem XG50T06PD40CO water heater I bought this HWT to replace a 16 year old naturally vented 40 ga tank. The primary decision for this model was the first hour recovery rate. Us now having two teenagers in the house, getting four people showered in a row was not an option before. We've had this tank in use for a month now and with a temperature set one notch up from default, we have not run out of hot water. Only thing to note is that this 50 ga tank stands 6' tall and the exhaust pipe has to have a minimum of 12" straight pipe before any elbows, meaning you need minimum of 88" of headroom for 2" vent pipe. Few more inches if 3" pipes are required. This can be an issue in older/smaller homes, as far as placement is concerned. Also, this tank does need access to a floor drain, if exhaust is sloped towards the tank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it for the support alone Had some issues initially, but these were quickly resolved with very good help from Rheem tech support. Unit came with misaligned burner access door gasket, but replacement was shipped out quickly. Had issues arising out of debris in gas line (self-inflicted). Once cleaned out, the tank ran perfectly. Unit seems to heat up faster than old tank which had same BTU rating. Not expecting others to encounter issues like mine, but good to know that support is there if you need it.

Home depot lists this model as 67% efficient, but Rheem lists "Performance Power Direct Vent 50 Gallon Gas Water Heater" as 80% efficient but no model #. I need to know the correct efficiency before ordering, as govt rebates only apply above 80%.

Asked by: Brandon
Hi Brandon and thank you for your question. The unit listed is 0.69 UEf.

Is this able to be installed in a confined space? The vent around the bottom in the picture makes it look like it uses ambient air and not an external intake duct..

Asked by: Cody
This is a 2 pipe direct vent system which does not use room air for combustion. Confined space will be dependent on your local jurisdiction's codes for access and serviceability.

Asked by: Kincade
Hello Kincade, I believe the highest tank efficiency we have is our power direct vent model ECORHE40S which has an energy efficiency of .83, At this time there is not a standard atmospheric unit with an UEF over .80

I’m need to buy a gas water tank that vents out the side of my house, the tank needs to accommodate about 4 people.  Is this tank appropriate, also what’s the difference between this tank And the Rheem Power Vent Natural Gas Water Heater, 50 Gal?

Asked by: Theo
This will vent out the side of a home using a specifically rated PVC pipe for the exhaust. Sometimes known as system 636 gas appliance venting pipe. The second pipe being the intake can either be standard PVC or even standard abs pipe. I believe the difference between the two is that this unit not only vents the flue gases to the outside but also has an intake pipe for the combustion air that is to be vented to the outside as well. Where as the other model uses the surrounding air within the home for combustion. The 2 pipe system is definitely the better system and increasingly being made mandatory by local authorities. As our houses get tighter the competition from other appliances in the home such as bath fans, kitchen fans and dryers for the homes air is making it a must for the 2 pipe style water heaters and furnaces.. Hope this helps...
