Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great but EXPENSIVE retrofit Bought natural gas unit. $1780.00 Needs $200.00 in material for DIY install of heater and water line ... includes building/beefing up of wall heater is to be mounted on. Should use recomended valve kit $150.00 Should use recomended concentric vent kit $80.00 The Heater uses 200,000 BTU so in a retrofit install a new 1" gas line was needed by a certified contractor $2000.00 ... because you existing line probably won't be enough. That's $4060.00 FORTUNATELY ... I already have a water softener ... because they are highly recommended with an on demand system to prevent mineral deposits on the water heating parts. ($800.00) FORTUNATELY ... the furnace chimney didn't need DOWNGRADING ... the old 'tank' water heater vented to the furnace chimney. The new on-demand water heater vents straight out the nearest wall ... by itself. (With the above mentioned concentric vent kit) ... and there's the rub ... the furnace chimney is sized for both the furnace and the old 'tank' style water heater. Venting the new heater by it'self leaves the furnace chimney with too much venting capacity ... too large a furnce chimney pipe could allow hot funace gases to cool too much before reaching the roof vent ... if that happens carbon monoxide can flow back into the house. FORTUNATELY the new gas line installer said the existing 5 inch furnace chimney wasnt left with too much capacity. So ... total cost for $1780.00 on demand water heater is $4060.00 ... It could have cost $5600.00 with a water softner and a new furnace chimney. I COULD HAVE done a DIY install of the very largest 'tank' style water heater for $1200.00 I could have had a contractor install it for $2000.00 So you see what I mean when I say on demand systems are EXPENSIVE for a retrofit. If you are building a new home ... go on demand. If you are doing Retrofit/replacement ... I oersonaly do not recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded expectations Water gets very hot, love the size, fairly quiet. Takes up so little space and love the constant hot water. Very happy with the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit. I installed this for my son-in-law. This is the first time I've ever work with such a unit. I've had experience building my own home, so I'm a proficient handyman. I enjoyed installing this unit, and just thought I'd show off my handiwork. The only thing I'm somewhat surprised by is size of the intake and outtake air pipes, but, after seeing this unit in operation, it's works perfectly well. Additionally, while operating, the exhaust temp is not even uncomfortable. The other thing is that the manual recommends a 3/4" water line going to this unit, but if you look at the actual opening of the provided valves, the opening is 1/2". (Maybe I don't know enough about the flow rate of plumbing - although I know enough a trunk line should be 3/4, and line to taps etc should be 1/2" ... although taps have a smaller opening yet)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tankless water heater I have been using this tankless for about a year and this tankless has been great!   The specs on this is impressive, its able to handle 2 showers simultaneously with no noticeable drop in temperature. Its really quiet and you cant notice it unless your near it, consumes very little power and produce endless hot water. Features: - 4.9 GPM @ 77F delta T = 2 showers at the same time. - A water saving mode (slows flow of incoming water to heat the water faster) and idle mode (stays ready-to-fire for up to 5 mins to help mitigate cold water sandwiches)   - Built-in condensate neutralizer - 2" PVC venting for up to 65', 3" up to 150' (watch your elbow count that can shorten the length, important for operation) - EZ hang bracket for quick mounting of unit without installing a separate hanger. - Remote temperature control with wires up to 10' to mount anywhere you'd like.   The only issue was it doesn't come with the tankless flush kit with in critical for servicing the unit's heat exchanger. Don't forget to purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good I purchased this a month ago while the 25% Energy Savings Rebate was in effect in Ontario. I had a local heating/cooling contractor install it for approx $1500. I am thus far pleased with it but I am a little disappointed that the contractor took the air intake from the basement rather than outside. Seems to defeat the purpose of installing a highly efficient water heater if it just pumps the interior air you've paid to heat in the winter or cool in the summer directly outside. Otherwise is has a small footprint, is not excessively noisy when in use and most importantly to us, doesn't run when not in use. Too soon to comment on what impact it will have on our gas bill but will try and update when available. Also, buy the recommended service valves so you can do the yearly maintenance yourself and save the ~$150 yearly cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Just had it installed about a month now, so far so good. Love how my basement had become more spacious now since replacing the tank with this tankless unit. Only down side is that sometime you need to wait a little long for the hot water to get to you faucet especially upstairs ones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Great Replaced our 10 year old tankless with this one. Much quieter. Very happy so far. The old one could be adjusted to 130 deg (which is what our plumber said is necessary to get the dishes clean) and I could make the adjustment but this one says I have to get a qualified technician to do it.

What is the min and max length for 2" venting pipes for this unit? On the Rheem website, the spec doc mentions a max of 1.5 m (5 ft) with one 90 deg elbow and IMO this is a typo. Similar units from competitors allow for 18 m (59 ft), thank you

    Asked by: tess
Hello Tess, Our Platinum Condensing unit can go up to 60' by flipping a dip switch. Thank you Rheem Canada

is this tankless heater good for average home like 4 people ? can take shower in 2 or 3 showers at the same time ? thanks

    Asked by: parm
Good Day Parm, Yes it is ideal for an average home of 4 people. You can run 3 showers at the same time, but keep in mind this will give you reduced pressure. Thank you, Rheem Canada

    Asked by: jwmck

Will using a reducer to take water and gas lines from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch provide the best pressures. The mains for both are 1 inch and both are within 8 ft of the unit. I do not want the expense and hassle of breaking into the 1 inch mains???

    Asked by: Doug
Thank you for asking, Doug. We'd advise to have a Gas Tech out to make sure your installation meets local code. Overall, we suggest using 3/4" gas and water lines, as they provide the most reliable pressure. If you have any further questions, please contact us at 1-866-720-2076. Thank you and have a great day.

What is the comparison of this model to the Rheem RTGH-95DVLN Direct Vent?

    Asked by: Bodtker
Thank you for asking, Bodtker. This 18.5 Litres Per Minute unit is the same model as the RTGH-95DVLN. This is easily confirmed by the fact that this unit is rated to provide 8.4 gallons per minute at a 45° rise, which is the same as the 9.5 models. If you have any further questions, please contact us at 1-866-279-4566. Thank you and have a great day.
