Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridgid 18V String Trimmer The trimmer went together with no issues. I used a 4ah battery, weight with battery is nice and light compared to the Husqvarna gas trimmer I have. I have a 1/4 acre yard with lawn in the front and back of house. To trim the entire yard around fence, green house and sheds it took two 4ah batteries which I thought was pretty good as it takes a fair bit of time to do it all. It has two speeds 1 at 5200 RPM and 2 at 6200 RPM I use #1 it has enough power and does a good job. I really like the variable throttle it works great and I use it a lot. With the Ridgid light weight and plenty of power I probably will sell my gas Husqvarna as I no longer will use it. I read in the questions and answers another user said he is using Ryobi attachments with his Ridgid trimmer so I may get a few attachments myself. I really like the Ridgid trimmer and have no problem recommending others to purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice tool It works really well for me. Mind you, this is an upgrade to the 25 year old green, corded weed-eater with a home-extended shaft I had been using. I read some of the complaints about the shaft's mid connection having some play in it. As per some reviewer's advice, if you take the clamp out and pre-squeeze the fitting, you can tighten that connection to a point where there is little to no play. To be fair: this is a homeowner tool, and there isn't a whole lot of back torque that is going to be applied to the tube. If there is any residual play in that connection, I'm unable to notice it during normal use, and that's al I need.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weed Wacker 2 thumbs down Have phoned rigid only to get nobody on the phone. I also emailed them and have not received any response from them and this is after 5 days. Bought the weed Wacker and this machine only lasted 2 minutes and then shut off, I would have to take battery out and same thing happened again and again. Super frustrating fully charged battery and it didn't last long period. Milwaukee name brand I use at my work and it seems to last way longer then this. I am a fan of rigid as I have lots of there tools but am returning the weed Wacker tonight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quits after 2 minutes. I bought this recently and had to take it back. It would only run for about 2 minutes and wouldn't run anymore. If I held the trigger for a minute, it would eventually start again. I tried 4 different fully charged batteries. I tried again the next day and would only run about 2 minutes again. I wanted to try another Trimmer, but none of the stores have stock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes finally!!! I've been waiting for so long for Ridgid to start offering the line of outdoor power tools. Once I saw that it was started, I placed my order without thinking twice. Awesome string trimmer, nothing bad to say about it! I love it, my two teenage sons love it, couldn't be happier to ditch our corded string trimmer! Massive amount of power and we all apply a small amount of power to have the perfect spinning rpm! Makes a quick job to do our whole yard. Works wonder when they go at their grandmother to do the yard. Love it, can't wait to start adding to our home line of OPT slowly but surely!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No regrets It does the job intended and am happy with my purchase. I do feel it could use a larger guard to protect the operator from flying debris and it requires at least a 4 amp battery for my small front and back lawn. My old Black and Decker that just died after almost 40 years of use is almost 2/3's the length of this one. Not sure why it has to be so long. I'm 6'2" and while it is not awkward to use I see no need for it to be as long as it is. Slightly harder to store then my old one given it's length and limited space. If you have bought into the Ridgid system it is a logical choice. No regrets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from me at home not happy this grass trimmer worked well when it did work. Bit it just broke broke after just using it for one summer and now i am getting the old run around without anything going forward because I am in Canada I cant deal with the main website where I registered all my tools like over a dozen of items. the local repair shops in canada do not have authorisation yo fix it, WOW that is ridiculous. i regret buying this expansive ridgig tool now

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job! I’m not a connoisseur of battery-powered string trimmers; I mostly got this one because I already have Ridgid batteries & chargers. I can trim the edges around my lawn in about 15 minutes with a standard (i.e., non-Max) 2ah lithium battery—though it’s pretty well depleted by the end. The power seems quite adequate. The unit feels pretty solid in my hands.

Ridgid trimmer assembly when connecting upper and lower shafts together there is some play in connection no matter how tight it is. Is this a problem with all of them or is yours tight with no movement or wobble in connection? Might return and repurchase.

Asked by: Captain8836
Mine had the same problem the bottom and top shafts had play where it was abit loose. I was going to return it but then I tryed this. Without the bottom and top shafts connected I tightened the connecting knob as tight as I could this closed up the female shaft abit, I did this a couple of times. Then I connected the two shafts together and I was able to tighten the shaft up alot more and the shaft no longer has play in it.

I purchased the Rigid String Trimmer when assembling the trimmer connecting the bottom shaft to the top shaft I am not able to tighten the two together enough to stop movement between the shafts there is play or wobble. Anyone else have or not have that.

Asked by: Captain8836
A little bit of play, but no problems.

Why is the guard so high up on the sting trimmer

Asked by: okie
Don’t know why, but after a lot of use, it keeps grass and debris away from my legs.

How is the trimmer line installed?

Asked by: AdamMck
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the RIDGID 18V Brushless Cordless Battery 14-inch String Trimmer. To replace the line, rotate the bump knob clockwise as necessary to align the arrows on the bump knob with the arrows on the string head housing. Cut one piece of trimmer line no more than 16 ft. long and insert the line into the eyelet on the string head housing. Push until the end of the line comes out the other side of the housing, and pull the line until equal amounts of line appear on both sides of the housing. Either by hand or using the string winder, rotate the bump knob clockwise to wind the line on the spool until approximately 6 in. of line is showing on each side. I love the trimmer it works great and was easily to assemble. The only issue I have and wondering if other people have this issue with it. When using it the deflector doesn't deflect the debris. My left leg was covered in grass when I was done using i

Asked by: Todd
Hi Todd, thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V Brushless 14" String Trimmer Kit. The trimmer cuts best when passing the unit from right to left, which will avoid throwing debris at the operator. Hold the trimmer with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front handle. The trimmer should be held at a comfortable position with the rear handle about hip height. Please refer to the manual for further operating tips. Thanks, RIDGID Canada Team.

I need to transport this in a truck with a short bed and need to know the overall length of the Trimmer to ensure it will fit in my truck with the tailgate closed.

Asked by: Phil
Hi Phil, thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V Brushless 14" String Trimmer Kit. This trimmer is comprised of an upper and lower section, so if space is a concern for transport, you can separate the two at the coupler in the center. For further information, please contact RIDGID Customer Support at 1-800-474-3443. Thanks, RIDGID Canada Team.

I have a Husquvarna 128ld gas trimmer with several attachments. The unit is split shaft with a square drive. Will attachments fit the Ridgid trimmer. Previous questions/answers were not very definitive.

Asked by: Brian49
Hi There, thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V Brushless 14-inch String Trimmer Kit. We can't confirm if attachments from other brands are compatible with our products, but it may fit if they are universal attachments. However, we do not recommend using attachments from other manufacturers. For further information, please contact RIDGID Customer Support at 1-800-268-4015. Thanks, RIDGID Canada Team.

How do you load the string to the head .

Asked by: Rockeye7
Unspool replacement string full arm span from left hand to right hand so about 6 -7 ft. Pass it thru the string hole in the head thru to the other side .Once you see the string on the other side , pull it thru and match it up to the other end of the string so you have equal lengths on both sides. Take the orange circular tool that came with your trimmer snd place it over the round hub and turn clockwise until the string is about 5 inches out from the head. You will have to hold the head or hub of the trimmer while turning the handle. You can use the steel rod that came with the trimmer or a nail to insert in the hub locking hole , but you can skip this step if you hold the hub while turning the winding tool.  It should be explained in the manual or look up rigid string trimmer string replacement on You Tube
