Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good tool I'm a remodeler contractor and I think this is the best sander for the money you can buy in this category.Plenty of power and stable sanding. The variable speed is goodish. Made with pre set speed steps A to F (used letters instead of numbers) and the trigger is basically a glorified on-off switch in that speed range you pre set it. Speed is fairly stable. The machine is heavy ,something is good in this case because it's own weight keeps it against the board. All you have to do guide it around.Front Track roller is adjustable in order for the belt to keep it's track. A bonus feature cheaper sanders don't have .I wish the trigger would give variable speed as you pull it in the preset speed but ,hey then would be a perfect sander

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big and powerful This is a big heavey belt sanders, but with the size comes good belt speed and that's what I was looking for. The grey handhold up top is adjustable too, so you can move it forward to allow the sander to sit flat on it's back. I use it like this for handheld pieces like a pinewood dirby car. Overall it's good if you like the power and can handle the weight, but I don't think you'd use it on a vertical surface for very long. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect weight and size As a professional cabinet and furniture builder, I use belt sanders quiet often to flatten counter and furniture tops. This sander has a lot of heft and is easy to control. It removes a lot of material without effort. You can't beat the price or the warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from heavy and powerful This thing will mess you up if you let it get away from you. First: It's heavy. Second: It's powerful. Third: It's a belt sander, not a ROS so you get what you get. It's is very comfortable to hold. It comes with a couple of belts. Dust collection is pretty good and would be better if you made an adapter to your shop vac. It stops quickly. It is variable speed (something I overlooked when buying it). The day I got mine I built some picture frames (for a stage production) out of 1x4 pallet wood that was "surfaced" on one side only. With 80 grit, this thing took the rough side down to smooth in nothing flat. Belt sanders are mostly either cheap (my ancient B&D finally caught fire) or > $150. At <$100, this thing is a very good value. Time will tell how long it lasts but it appears to be built like a tank. Did I mention that it's heavy?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems as well built as models costing much more. Came well packed. Solid, hefty tool. Comes with a long power cord. Very useful feature. Easy belt changes & the belt tracks very well. Easy tracking adjustment. Dust collection could be better, but not bad. Adjustable speed control on handle & easily accessible. Soft start takes a bit of getting used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy duty at a great price. Sanding a pine ceiling with a skill dragster(which is a great sander) I broke that in less than 40 hours I bought the rigid. I will probably have this for a lifetime. Very well built!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly good I purchased this sander while I wait for parts to fix my beloved Bosch 1274 DVS, (discontinued, why?). I live in Hawaii and was not able to purchase this product even online. I had to get my sister to purchase it for me online in PA. Even my cousin in CA couldn't purchase this sander but I like the specs and it has a lifetime service contract that they will honor here in Hawaii, but you must purchase the sander through the Home Depot. I've been remodeling homes for 25 years and I can tell you this is the most powerful and smoothest 3x21 belt sander I've ever used, I really like it. Now here are the negatives. 1. I just completed my first project with it, a set of stairs. All the wood had to be milled and sanded so it was a fair amount of work but my Bosch did half the work before the toothed sprocket wore out. Now I already I have to replace the timing belt (drive belt) on this sander. I can't believe it wore out so quickly, I hope this isn't a constant problem with the tool. 2. I thought the top of the sander was flat so that I could use it upside down on my workbench, but it is slightly domed, so close to a perfect design but no, fail. 3. The dust collection is great when it's hooked up to my shop vac but without a vacuum, the air vent for the motor blows right in your face. I guess engineers do their best to think of everything before production but they blew it, so to speak, on this one. Now it's in production and I guess it's too expensive to do a redesign so soon. Maybe that's why it's so cheap. It's obviously a heavy duty sander and I suspect it will last me for the rest of my life.

Is there a stand that allows it to be used upside down on the workbench?

Asked by: Topher
The top handhold is adjustable and the sander can be laid flat, but you would need to clamp it to your bench if you were running large pieces over it.

Regarding Ridgid Model #R2720 Belt Sander: Will this tool connect with Ridgid wet/dry vac tubes of 1 7/8" diameter? Specifically, Ridgid # WD4522

Asked by: jjones1627
Ridgid has vacuum hose adapters for various size hoses and connections and I just tried it on mine and although the fit was close it wasnt tight. The only solution I can think of is to go to the plumbing section and see if they have a 1 inch to 1 inch rubber coupling with a hose clamp on each end. I believe that would work.
