Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome product! I bought this as a back-up for my house in conjunction with a Generlink transfer switch. This thing is awsome, produces an excellent quality of electricity that even my HD tv's have a perfectly clear image. I even went the extra mile and added a tri fuel conversion kit so now i can run it on natural gas, propane or gasoline. I have had to use it a few times now and it has outperformed itself. I will be switching to a full synthetic oil after the breakin period. I also had to convert this from BONDED to FLOATING neautral to be connected to my Generlink, but that only took 2 minutes. I recommend this to anyone. Only issue is it is a bit loud so you wont want this in the suburbs. Ontario

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product lists features that it does not have!!!! My wife and I had previously purchased a RD8000 model at our local home depot store. We used it for a few months and sold it to upgrade to the RD7000. We sold our generator at a loss and spend an extra $600 to purchase this model to get the auto idle feature as listed in the specifications which should have enabled the generator to idle when not under load. After assembling and running the unit - then reading the manual we discovered that the generator is "auto idle control compatible" meaning the motor has the feature, but the generator itself is not compatible with this feature and therefore it doesn't work. The wire to the auto idle control motor is actually zip tied and tucked away. So basically the specifications are incorrect and I just completely wasted my money. Save your money - buy the RD8000 or look elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generator After using this unit just over 21 hours to operate appliances, including, lights, freezer, fridge, computer and Satellite TV found the unit work very well indeed. The Honda motor is made in Taiwan and is made for after market uses and carries only a 2 year warranty, not the 3 year on the box of the unit. The rest of the unit frame is for the claimed 3 years. As per the maintenance the crank case oil was changed after 20 hours. I noticed it had some metallic look to it, not sure if this is normal or not during the "Break in period" I plan to have this checked out by the local Honda motor repair depot. This is a very good unit for Home Back up Power, came equipped with a 30 amp 220 volt power plug ( My old generator unit had a 20 amp 220 volt plug,so the house plug had to be changed to the larger output plug ) Good value for a Honda powered generator, and highly recommended pending the oil issue results. The large fuel tank provided the operating time claimed by the manufacturer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed with Specification Information I'm disappointed, I purchased this product because number one, it has a Honda motor and because of the automatic idle control which was listed under the specifications. Once I received the generator, I found that it does not have auto idle as advertised. I called Ridgit and they said that this information is false and should not be listed on the Home Depot website. This generator is much louder than I expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Generator Was skeptical at buying this generator due to the lack of reviews on the internet. Bought it as a back up system in case of outages. Very satified with it so far. I enjoy the peace of mind of the Honda engine without the need to pay lots of money for a Honda generator. The 25' cable with the remote panel is a nice bonus, but I couldn't use it to connect to my back up generator panel as it is only rated for 20 Amps. Would recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I built an off-Grid home. This unit has left me high and dry three times now. Mostly coil issues. I thought Honda would be dependable. I was wrong. Taking it back, a battle to keep running!! So frustrated!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Problems - it worked great during the October 29th outage I purchased this generator in November 2010, but did not have occasion to use it extensively until our recent outage due to an unprecedented October Nor'easter. No problems setting up and using.....easy to start, ran reliably.....that's the name of the game. I would definitely recommend it......if you need the job done, get this unit.

Where does the pig-tail get plugged into so the auto idle can work?

The auto idle is attached/installed but is not hooked up to anything, my unit runs full bore all the time. The manuals (generator and engine) don't even show the option let alone how to hook it up/use it. Where does the pig-tail get plugged into so the auto idle can work? This is the RIDGID 7000 Watt Generator CSA with Honda Engine Model # RD7000 Internet # 202051315

This Honda engine we buy for the unit comes with the attachment wire collar. We do not have anything that hooks up to it. We are trying to get the engines without the wire attachment, but currently this is the way Honda builds the endgine.

how much does it cost for the extension cord and how long can u run from the machine ?

Asked by: Anonymous
The associates in the electrical dept can assist you you with your extention cord needs as to cost. However, you need to be careful to use the correct gauge of cords depending on tools or draw that is being plugged into the generator. Most extention cords are not very efficient after 100 feet, but again ask the electrical associate which will be best for your use and application. The basic formula is that you need to know how many amps you are running as well as how many watts you are using, that will dictate the allowable cord length and size

does this engine have automatic choke so it can be started remotely when cold.

The choke on this unit is manual. It does however have an electric start so you don't have to pull the rope to start it.

what is the db noise raring for this product

Asked by: Anonymous
As the unit does rev up and down when draw is needed from it , it is hard to place a db rating on the machine. It is loud, somewhat louder than a 4 cycle gas lawn mower for example. If you need to deaden the sound most build an openended doghouse type of shelter or structure with sound proof insulation as a "muffler" for the sound.
