No. It uses the 18v battery only. It is a nice light. If you need a hybrid light the Ridgid panel light uses either battery or cord power. It is model R8694221.

How strong are the hooks that pull out of the back of the base? These allow the light to mount to 2x material? Are the hooks strong enough to mount the light upside down from a floor joist or rafter, without having to worry the the light would slip off and fall?

The hooks are very strong, and will not break or pull off. As far as mounting in any position, upside down also, to any 2X the clips pull out and rotate around the 2X very snugly and it will not slip off. There is also a tripod mount as well as 2 screw holes, 2 inches center to center that you can mount this with
