It has two modes: spotlight and floodlight. The spotlight is good on areas of less than 4" round while the floodlight adequately illumines areas of about 2' to 3'. I continuously ran the light for about 7 hours with a one year old 2.0Ah battery. The package says you should get 20 hours with a 4.0Ah one. The gooseneck flex line is great for positioning the light just where you need it. Just be aware that you need to have it within a few feet of your work area for optimum viewing. Decent performance for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright light, good for any job [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The light is very easy to use and is bright enough for any smaller job when you need some type of direct lighting. Came with battery and charger. I would like to see some way to clamp it onto something to keep in place. The rigid but flexible stand will allow you to wrap it around something. It does not stand up that well when you have it on the ground. But again, the rigidity will allow you to play with it a little and find a good spot to place it. Battery lasts a long time and charges very fast, giving you a full battery in less than a half hour. Big fan of this light and would recommend buying.

I am a homeowner and only used the light occassionally around the house and cars to see a little better. I discovered the light wasnt as bright as I expected. Unless it was used on a firm surface and with a heavy (4 hour) battery, it would tip over. After a few months I noticed the flexible section was too flexible and would not stay where I had aimed it. In less than a year the flex broke and the light was useless. I called customer service and was told the warrenty was expired and the part was not servicable. I do not recomend this light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ditto...I can just repeat everything already stated. This piece of junk does not belong in the Rigid line of tools. Did I say tools? Can't even call this a tool; I have had to use other tools just to keep this light working. First, the gooseneck plastic cups cracked and would not hold the light-head up. Fixed that by gluing cups in place (defeats purpose of gooseneck). Second, few more uses trying to prop lamp up because balance is terrible, and more cups cracked making neck flap like wet noodle. Third, it just quit working. Changed batteries, still not work. opened to check bulb; can't change bulb. Basically, waste of money. Can't even use as a paperweight because balance is incredibly poor design.

Its nice that you can rotate the head for a flood to spot setting; however, the indexing for the positions needs to be significantly stronger. Simply handling the light or adjusting the head can cause it to rotate away from its perfect/proper alignment position. you need to visually align the head as it will not "click" into position; at least the click is not very strong... Additionally, the frosted lens reduces the lumes; there should be several more LED's within the head. On the plus side, a 4ah battery will last all day!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Usefull I like to use this with my older NiCad 18v batteries. The NiCads are heavier and act as weighted base. I use this light the most when I'm working under my car, under the dash, or areas like under kitchen sink. Being able to pull the light up & bend the stalk to put the light where you want it is a great feature. It's brighter than those el-cheapo LED flashlights, but I wish it was even brighter with Hi/Low settings. However, being able to put the light where you want it, and not have to hold it still makes it well worth the cost.

The flex is so weak, it is stable only when the light is directly over the battery. I would have expected a lower weight lamp and stronger neck to shine lite at odd angles in tight spaces. A table lamp is as useful as this goose neck light. I hope I can return it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Bright, Spot and Flood Modes, Highly Adjustable [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you need a hands free light and already have Ridgid's 18 volt battery packs, this LED light is a good option. The light cast by the single LED is as bright as any regular 60W bulb, and it's a bright white light that casts no heat. This package is the tool only, so you will already have to own Ridgid 18V battery packs and a charger. On a single basic 2AH pack this light will run all day long and then some. You have the option of using this as a flood light or a spot light for pinpoint lighting. Just rotate the light head to switch between modes. The flex arm wraps around pipes, 2x4s or can be bent to make a base for itself. I have found this very useful under the hood of any vehicle, under the chassis, in trusses for added light and of course under sinks for plumbing. There is one flaw in the design and that is, even with the battery pack attached the light will tip itself over if you fully extended the arm. I solved this by twisting the arm to make it's own base and it stays solid. Overall it's a good light, feels durable, it just needs some work on the stability of the base.

Yes, you do need a battery and charger. You can buy those separately, but your best cost savings would be to buy one of their tools that come with the square-shaped battery, and a charger. I really like my light, and the battery/charger that came with my drill also work with the light. Those package deals are really the best buy.
