Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This is exactly what we needed to put under the engineered wood flooring we installed in the basement. I give it more a 4.5 than a 4, but wasn't able to choose that option. I was happy to find it at a good price and was able to have it shipped directly to my house. The vapour barrier is exactly as described. It was pretty easy to work with, just hard to lay flat as other reviewers have noted (though I imagine every product of this type would be the same). The only thing I didn't love was the UPC stickers were difficult to remove on a couple of the rolls.

If I am putting down Laminate flooring in my living room (above grade/finished basement), can I use this as underlayment or must it be used in addition to underlayment.

Asked by: AnnC
Thank you for your inquiry. Moisture barricade must be used IN ADDITION to underlayment. This product is a moisture barrier product and does not offer sound or cushion value to an installation.

best type of flooring for unheated cottage in winter

Other than lienoeum. Is a laminate, Allure etc. which type is best for our cottage with no heat on in the winter months at Long Point, ontario
Asked by: Anonymous
The "best" type of flooring for a cottage that is not heated is really a customer preference decision. This question should be directed to each flooring manufacturer once a flooring choice is made to make sure their warranty will apply under these conditions. In general, natural products like solid wood or cork should be avoided, depending on the manufacturer's warranty. You may still want to proceed with the install, as long as you are aware full warranty coverage may not apply.

cupboard liner?

Is this safe to use in the cupboards or shelves as a liner (any offgassing, or chemicals that will get on dishes?) I heard some people use this because it protects the shelves from moisture, doesn't move much and cushions a bit.
Asked by: yesm
Although this is not the recommended use for this product, there is no reason it cannot be used as a liner.

Can this be used with Composite Vinyl Floor planks ( fiber flooring)?

Asked by: Doory
This product is designed use under all laminate and engineered wood floating floors. Composite Vinyl Floor (fiber flooring) is normally glued down so using this between the subfloor and glue down installation will prevent the glue from drying, so it cannot be used.

Is there a laminant flooring specific for bathrooms?

Asked by: Anonymous
Due to high moisture content in a bathroom and the potential for spills, your best choice would be a vinyl flooring product that looks like laminate.

IS PLASTIC VAPOUR BARRIER REQUIRED ON A CONCRETE

BASEMENT FLOOR THAT HAS IN FLOOR HEATING (WATER) WHEN INSTALLING LAMINATE THAT HAS DENSE FOAM 1/16-1/8" ALREADY ATTACHED TO IT?
Asked by: Anonymous
We always recommend a vapor barrier for below grade installations and some municipalities insist on it. If you're not sure check with the local building codes. Also, refer to the laminate flooring manufacturer's recommnedations regarding this type of application to ensure warranty requirements.

Can I use this on a wood subfloor?

Asked by: Lola
No, 6mil. plastic film is specific to concrete slab moisture protection. Using this over a wooden subfloor can trap moisture(if present) and cause damage. You may want to consider a moisture reatarder such as 70-198 Silcon Vapor Paper. designed to protect floors from moisture, without trapping it underneath the floor covering & made from repurposed paper that is environmentally safe and made of 100 percent recycled contents.
