Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, has some advantages and disadvantages I bought the big pail of 1509 for a flooring project at home - I'm a DIY-er. I was installing half inch tongue and groove engineered hardwood throughout our second floor (except for two tiled bathrooms). I chose to install with glue AND staples - I was seeking a squeak free floor (and I screwed down the subfloor while I was at it, it had been nailed and many of the nails had worked loose). There are lots of different adhesives one can use. I thought 1509 was a good choice for glue-and-staple. It gives a strong bond that's flexible. It has "low tack", the board can move when placed in wet glue, which is good for my application, it allows you to hammer the tongue into the groove for a tight fit, and the staples prevent further movement. (I think this would be tougher to use in a glue-only installation, since previous courses of boards could move.) It is low-VOC. I found the big pail to be a bad choice for the DIY-er. I was taking my time in the job, and with lots of cuts to fit around doors, closets, etc., I don't think I averaged more than 100 sf per day. The adhesive in the pail will skim over overnight. I tried placing plastic wrap on the surface of the glue before putting the top on the pail - or maybe helped a little, but not much. Each day I had to cut off and throw away the top layer that had hardened. A pro or team who could lay 300-500 sf in a day would have less of an issue. I used the proper notched trowel to apply the adhesive. It's a messy business! I'll admit that I cheated when doing fiddly bits, and used PL Premium in a caulking gun, applying a zig-zag bead for each board. More expensive, for sure, but way easier and neater. I didn't find I could lay adhesive for more than one course at a time, since the staple gun would have sat in the wet glue. Do you need to trowel down just enough for the row you're working on, set the boards and then staple them, before moving on. Net-net, I'm happy with the floor and happy that I took the time and trouble to glue and staple the flooring. The 1509 is a reasonable product for the job, but messy to work with. Next time, I'd consider using a product in a caulking gun, even though it's somewhat more expensive - in the context of the whole job the difference isn't huge. I see other people complaining about clean-up. I used Varsol, and had a rag handy to wipe up any excess before it dried. No problems. A one litre bottle was lots for my whole job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality product This product did not work as advertised. It did not adhere to some flooring or subfloor after installing as per instructions. I would not buy this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for hardwood floors. Works great but bought way to much. A little goes a long way.

Does it come with other packages like a tube that works with an adhesive gun? I am installing 7" wide and 3/4" thick engineered hardwood, I am going to nail it down with glue assist, using an adhesive gun will be easier to apply a bead of the adhesive.

Asked by: Allie
The glue comes in a pail. There is no additional equipment. Your plan to nail down and then apply a layer of glue sounds good. Good luck.
