Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best choice so far. Easy to install. Cut with a bread knife, works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product but Can be Tricky to Istall I purchased this product to replace fiberglass insulation that had become rodent infested, underneath a heated porch. The product is superior to fiberglass, but care must be used when applying it to a horizontal location. The product can break easily when being manipulated in this fashion and I had to scrap some pieces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Insulation Roxul is the perfect insulation for the DIY. Easy to cut, fits and holds by itself even in rafter application. Doesn't burn, doesn't absorb water and doesn't itch like pink insulation.

Renovating 2 x 4 exterior walls and we have a minimum code of R20 for exterior wall inulation. Can I use Reflectix 1st (closest to exterior wall), then rockwool R14, followed by Reflectix as poly vapor, without compromising insulation & meeting code?

    Asked by: MrsTJ
Please note when using a vapour barrier membrane: it should be placed on the warm side of the insulation, so batts installed between framing then membrane across the face of the studs. In a 2x4 maximum R value you will get is R14 the 3.5” batt. To get R20 you are looking at either furring out the studs with 2x2’s and using the 5.5” batt R22 / R24 option or using COMFORTBOARD™80 and applying the 1.5” R6 board to the face of studs to increase R value to R20 It is recommended you check with the manufacturer or Reflectix on its usage in this application and potential condensation issues it could cause.

Is Roxul comfort batt R14 much better than Owens Corning R12

I have to insulate my exterior basement walls and wondering if the extra cost for Roxul comfort batt is worth 350 dollars more than the Owens Corning R12 Touch Pink Insulation
    Asked by: Anonymous
You have the choice of more than one option here for insulation material. ROXUL material is approx. 300% denser than fibreglass, oversized and fills the cavity/space completely. A high melting point of approximately 2150°F (1177°C), which gives it excellent fire resistance properties. Also water repellent and inorganic, providing no food source for mold to grow. And a higher R Value for your 2x4 exterior wall assembly.

Will rats and mice live in ceilings with rockwool installed thru out??

I was told that rockwool insulation was something that rats and mice won't stay in contact with..true or false ? Where I am in Powell River, we have way too rats making our rafters and floors home. If i invest in this, I need to know for sure.

There is no test method to determine whether or not any product is rodent resistant. ROXUL’s reputation as a rodent resistant insulation is mainly based on word of mouth and lack of negative feedback from numerous customers who use our products in “cottage country”. The majority of these applications are exposed floors, which are mainly above grade allowing rodents easy access to the insulation. As ROXUL insulation has a higher density than other insulations and a multi-directional fiber orientation, rodents tend to avoid burrowing and nesting in ROXUL insulation

    Covering Roxul with Poly?

Adding Roxul in our crawlspace... it is necessary to add vapour barrier?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes if your crawlspace is heated and part of the house. You treat the area like a basement. Here in Canada, we are required by code to install a vapour retarder on the warm side of the insulation to prevent condensation in thermally insulated walls, ceiling and floor assemblies.

do you need to have a vapor arrier or plastic when putting this on an exterior wall in a basement?

    Asked by: Anonymous
A vapour barrier or retarder is a vital component of exterior walls. It controls vapour transmission and helps prevent condensation from forming inside the walls and ceilings. A continuous vapour barrier is placed on the warm side of the insulation and it is Code to install on all exterior walls.
