Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont use this thinking it will protect your finish I just painted a wood frame with black rustoleum spray paint and it looked beautiful. I wanted to protect the finish and bought the rustoleum semi gloss clear. I sprayed the frame and the paint immediately started to bubble up. Why is there no warning on the can? I did a search on the Homedepot.com site for this product and there are numerous complaints with the exact same issue. Now I need to stand it again and buy more black paint to start all over. Too bad there is not an option for zero stars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not 2x and poor quality I applied this paint to a small 3ftx1ft filing cabinet. it was primed well and smooth so I thought that if 1 can of primer would cover the entire thing that 1 can or 2x finish certainly would. How mistaken I was. It didn't even cover most of the sides. And entire back was left white, and several other areas were only partially covered. It looks terrible and the paint itself doesn't bond to the metal primer, stripping off with ease. Why does it advertise itself as metal paint for the outdoors if the slightest knock indoors peels it off? The two stars is because the orange colour is true to the lid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money I liked the color of the product, not a pure white. Took my time to follow all instructions to apply and have used spray paints many times before. However, I did not find it covered as described in the write-up at all (I could see the old color through in many parts). I attempted to apply a second coat to some of these areas where the old color showed through, and it simply made the 1st coat bubble as many other reviewers mentioned. Just created more work for me as I had to now sand the bubbled paint off, and use a brush/roller for my project. Save your money and do not purchase this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product Will DESTROY the painted surface I have tried both the Gloss and Semi-Gloss versions of the product. In both cases the original paint was Rust-Oleum, one was gloss colonial red and the other was satin canyon black. The can directions were followed, and within seconds of this product touching the painted surface it wrinkled and bubbled the original paint. even in very thin coats Further I attempted to sand the clear coat off and repaint. The clear coat appears to have affected the original paint chemistry. and repainting the surface results in the paint causing the original paint to bubble and crack. It even causes the Rust-Oleum primer to bubble and crack. The only solution was to completely strip the original work piece to bare materiel, clean with alcohol and prime then paint. In no way should this product be used or even sold as it serves no useful purpose.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible. Globs when it sprays. Do not buy. I thought I would try this Rust Oleum Painter's Touch for an outdoor project and what a nightmare. I'll start by saying that I am an experienced painter. So I know my way around spray can. This product came out in clumps and globs immediately and permanently ruining a brand new unfinished project. I warn you not to risk this product on anything that you care about. I tried to salvage by quickly brushing the messy globs, but it is beyond saving. This is the worst spray paint product I have ever tried. Needless to say I would never use it again. So I thought I would warn others.

It’s a foolproof colour for giving new life to old furniture without then needing to change everything else.

Not only did I wait 4 days before applying the. 2nd coat, but I even sanded the first coat with 400 grit sandpaper. As soon as I sprayed on the 2nd coat, following all instructions, the paint began puckering. I then had to wait 2 more days to sand off the puckering, which was almost impossible. I had to sand the paint right off. A project that should have been 3 days, has now dragged on and on. I don’t want to add another layer of this paint in case it puckers again. I am livid.

I would like to paint my bathtub drain with this spray paint. Since the drain will be submerged in water 30-60min at any given time.. will this spray paint hold up to the water?

Hi Dan, We do not recommend our Ultra Cover Multi-Purpose Paint & Primer for a bathtub drain was it will not withstand being submerged under water and will crack and peel off. Unfortunately, we do not have a product to recommend.

Can I use this on a snowboard?

Hi halliethegreat, While our Ultra Cover Multi-Purpose paint can be applied to your snowboard, we do not recommend it as it will not hold up to the amount of moisture and abuse it will be exposed to. It would need to be frequently touched up. We hope this new information is helpful.

I don't know how it would work on polyester, however I painted outdoor door mats (rubber type material) with this paint two or three years ago and they still look great!

Can you use this to spray paint directly over chrome or nickel?

I've used it over a chrome table without primer, as it has built in primer. It goes on, but it has chipped over the last year. I'll need to sand and repaint it unfortunately. This is my go to spray, and 90% of the time, it adheres so well, without any chipping or flaking. The chrome table was the only instance where it did not last as long... plastics, metals, wood... it normally goes on great!

Can this be used to paint a vinyl window frame for outdoor use

I would suggest using a fine grid of sandpaper to give the spray paint a surface better to adhere to.  If you prefer a smoother finish, paint brush a reg. primer in the same shade as the spray paint first (I’m not sure, but check, the spray paint might come in a spray primer).  Let the primer dry entirely before spraying the paint layer.

Hi Steve, We have not tested our Ultra Cover Multi-Purpose Paint and Primer on porcelain. The surface tension may be too low and the coating may not adhere. If you would like to still give it a try, clean the surface well and once dry, lightly sand a small area on the back of the toilet with 220-grit. Remove the sanding dust and apply on the test spot to see if the paint adheres properly.
