Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works on tubs I used the Rust-Oleum Tub and Tile Etch to prepare a bathtub for redecorating. Following the directions, I bushed a thick layer of the gel-like material on my old bathtub, waited at least 5 minutes and removed. The instructions state to rinse clean, but I felt that this product does not belong in our lakes so I used a plastic spatula to remove what I could, then used paper towels and placed in the garbage. Once I removed what I could, cleaned up with a wet sponge. I was successful in removing the shine from the tub, all the stains and brown spots, looked better already, but could not be left untreated as this made the tub susceptible to scuff marks. In the end, the product did what it stated it could do, remove the porcelain from my bathtub.

Ended up using Bulls eye primer. Btw, the etching cream did a great job of cleaning the tile. Rather pricey for a cleaner!

My daughter is moving out of her apartment and the tub needs to be refinished as her Lush bathbombs and purple shampoo stained the finish her landlords put on it. Is this product something that she could use for this so she doesn't loose the crazy damage

Is this necessary before the tub and tile refinishing kit?

If you have any amount of shiny enamel left on your tub/tile this will give it a satiny surface that the refinishing material can bond to. As an added bonus, it also ensures that soap and cleaner residue are gone from the surface ensuring that the new finish adheres to the actual surface you are retreating and not residue of some sort on top of that surface.

Does the cream dry out eventually? If it does is there anything you can mix ut with to keep the consistency?

Do I need to prime before using this product or do I just make sure the tub is clean and then just paint

No priming needed. Clean well and the cream is very powerful so no pre-sanding needed from my experience (depending on the thickness of the gloss).

I saw some video of this product which showed A and B to be mixed before use, is this the same product premixed ready to use? Can we paint over silicon or is it mandatory to remove that first?

Hi Charlie, For acrylic tubs, we recommend cleaning clean well and sand lightly. We do not recommend our Tub & Tile Etching Cream for prep.
