Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Planer! Well priced and user friendly! I bought this planer to build a mantle for my wife. It worked excellent planing down 4”x6”x 14’ rough cut fir. I used the planer to take the boards down to a 3 3/4”x5 3/4”. This is the only project that I have used the planer for as I have only owned it for a month but, with the size I wanted to get to and the smooth finish I was looking for the planer was excellent! I would definitely recommend to the recreational builder to purchase this. I looked all over for a used one to be able to complete this project as it was a Christmas gift and procrastination got the best of me. I finally bit the bullet and purchased this product and was not disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great Does an okay job at planing, but does leave siping marks at the end no matter what you do. the worst bit is the feed in/out tables are painted, and even after just a little bit of use the paint starts wearing off, going into the grain of the wood, marking/staining it. There is a reason no other company paints their in/out feed tables, this is why.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! I bought this planer today and it's a work horse.Took me 5 minutes to set it up. Planed some ash, black walnut and a piece I made with walnut and resin. This machine ate up all three pieces. It has a smooth and steady pace. The only thing I notice was a slight de tease in motor power when I had the vacuum hooked up to the same extension cord as the planer. Not really significant but it was the only flaw I could find. Love the vacuum hookup on the back. Like I said, I plane a lot of pieces with resin in them and that stuff can be a real mess. With the vac hookup the?re was none on me or the ground. Definitely glad I bought this machine. Replacement blades are available in the same aisle that the planer isin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great, until the motor died Had this for about 4 months. Barely used it. I was careful to feed clean wood, free of nails or other debris through it. I followed the instructions and played it safe by never cutting any more than 1/8 of an inch off a piece of wood. One day, the motor suddenly lost power and the rollers were failing to pull a piece through. I turned it off, unplugged it, removed the board as per the safety instructions, cleaned out the bits of shavings that were still in the machine and tried again. It pulled the board in then the motor just stopped. Again, I safely removed the wood, cleaned it out, took the cover off, inspected the roller and blades, put everything back together, tried it again, and the motor was flashing and making a sound much like an old dirt bike.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dangerous garbage I was planing a piece of maple, 6 inches by 3 feet, 2 inches thick. Some wood got between the blade guide and the blade. The wood shot out backwards and hit my workbench, narrowly missing me and knocking tools off my workbench, breaking my jointer. The cutter head is bent, and the planer is now a doorstop. The parts are out of stock.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from terrible quality control and durability worst impulse buy i have ever made. Impossible to plane a flat board due to a warped slide plate under the planer head. At least a 2mm dip causing a uneven feed for the cutter head due to a very flimsy piece of metal. motor gets very hot and has only 10 minutes of actual running time.

Is it worth mounting thickness planer into the workbench for much longer in-feed and out-feed surfaces. This might also serve to stiffen in/out-feed shelves included with unit. I do this with my table saw and mitre-saw to make using these tools easier.

Asked by: DIYJackofTrades
Absolutely. The included wings are not firm or coolants enough to do decent work. Recommend not only lengthening the in and outfeeds but also install something like melamine across the planer so your material is supported by a single smooth surface rather than across 3.

Is the dust port powered?

Asked by: arcangel8735
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 12.5-inch Corded Benchtop Thickness Planer . Attaching a 2-1/2 in. shop vac hose to the dust guide helps minimize sawdust accumulation on the workpiece. I hope this helps! For further information, please contact RYOBI Customer Support at 1-800-525-2579. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.
