Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have had this trimmer for three years now and it does the job on the small patches of grass I have around my yard. It is easy to add new string. I went to use it today and it was totally seized, so I took it apart and there was string and grass wound around the motor shaft. Once I cleaned out the string and grass and lubricated with some WD40 the trimmer worked as good as new. This trimmer is not meant for doing heavy trimming or large areas. I have 3 batteries, as I also use Ryobi cordless drills and my wife has a Ryobi hot glue gun. DON'T USE STRING HEAVIER THAN RECOMMENDED as it will wear out the trimmer.

It would be an easy fix, but they don’t offer what I need as a replacement part. I was told when I called this would have been a warranty replacement, but I’m 3 months past the 3 years so there is nothing they can do. I’m disappointed that I can’t get a replacement when Ryobi doesn’t even stock the replacement part needed. This seems like such a waste it would likely be a $5 fix and now I have to toss it and get a new one. This rating is more for the customer service I received and the lack of an available fix.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just right for light-duty edge trimming I have a more powerful corded trimmer, but the power is overkill for just trimming grass at the edges where the mower can't reach, and the cord is inconvenient. This simple light cordless trimmer is just about perfect. Fits in tight spaces, easy to handle, has enough power and battery life to do the job. Really the only questionable shortcoming is that there's no readout of remaining battery charge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad - Same Failure Twice Bought this in June 2020 and the switch failed 2 months later. Got a replacement in August from Home Depot and AGAIN it has just happened. The issue is the switch in the handle failing. Turn the trimmer on, and it shuts off after 5 to 10 seconds. Full charge of battery makes no difference. Since Ryobi only allow 90 days for over the counter warranty replacement, it is now at a repair facility for a week or 2!!

I use it to edge and trim my yard (which isn’t very big) and I’m lucky if I get 20 minutes of use on a full charge before the battery dies. For the price, I expected it to last longer than that. It works fine and cuts the weeds down, but the fact that the battery life is so short has resulted in my leaving a low rating. I did look into purchasing a second battery, but they cost as much as the machine itself. I would like to be able to get my yard done in one go, instead of having to constantly re-charge the battery 2 or 3 times before I can finish. I do not recommend this product.

The battery “run time” is very short; re-charge is not lengthy, but inconvenient. Extra battery is highly recommended. Otherwise, this unit works well for an average size woman.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ryobi designers flunked this one I got this trimmer to use the same batteries from my other Ryobi tools without doing a complete research, for starters it is big, heavy and cumbersome to handle, the worst part of the design is the lack of the front guard to protect the bark of trees and flowers when cutting grass around flower beds, even the cheapest from other brands have this guard. If you need it to trim grass in areas without tress, bushes or flowers, this is your toll, otherwise look for other brand. I regret wasting my money on this one. Ryobi designers flunked this one.
