Like so many others, after 1 use, the line cutter and part of the grass deflector broke when it came into contact with the string!! Quite obviously the plastic they are using is too fragile and production of this unit should be halted right away. I see many reviews which state the exact same problem yet Home Depot and Ryobi keep producing them. Highly irresponsible on both counts. This is my first Ryobi purchace and it has soured me for purchasing any Ryobi product in the future. I see the Ryobi rep responding to all of these reviews but the product is still being sold. What gives Home Depot, Ryobi??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great until it wasn't within 4 months Ordered this product April 2022 used it every weekend and was working great until yesterday when the string cutter and piece of the plastic guard flew off and the plastic around the spool head I noticed was also broken. The trimmer can't be used now as the auto feed releases too much string and nothing cutting it. The guard seems pretty flimsy and inadequate for being constantly rotated for multi use. Unable to contact Ryobi online by email due to glitchy website keeps telling me to log in when I already have, live chat never responded. Unless I wanted to wait 60-70 minutes on the phone I'm not impressed with the product or lack of customer service

J'ai tenter d enregistrer mon produit sur le site de la compagnie comme tout mes autres produits Ryobi,mais peine perdu je ne le trouve pas sur le site, ni avec le numéro de model ni le numéro de série...Le produit est asser lourd au niveau de la tête de coupe. J'ai 30 jours pour le retourner, J'ai un grand terrain 40,000 pieds carré

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken Line cutter I would like to give more stars, but I can't due to the issue I encountered. I bought this cordless edger/trimmer on Jun 17. Assembly was easy. Charged the battery and used it on Jun 18. The trimming/edging functionality is good, however, after about 5 min of use, the line cutter broke, sheared off at the base. see picture. This seems to be design flaw, as the stalk holding the metal cutting piece does not seem to be strong enough to withstand the string hitting it. There are also other reviews with same problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi trimmer and edger It works surprisingly well. I just have the basic battery but was able to do my entire yard on high without losing power. Will be upgrading my battery as I now have a few ryobi tools. To change to an edge is really easy and done by a simple foot lever. Machine is well balanced too so no fatigue is you have a big yard. Overall I am really happy and would recommend. The only thing I would caution is the tiny black screws to mount the guard are not taped in a visible place so I’m sure many people have accidentally thrown out the packaging with the screws still in the box. But no problems with the machine.

We purchased this unit and out of the box-it looked great...until we tried to assemble it. No matter how we maneuvered the unit we could not get the trimmer guard on. The holes did not line up. We thought that maybe it was a defect with this specific unit so we exchanged it and had the same issue. My husband tried a 3rd time and even attempted assembly at the store but the parts did not line up. Super disappointed.

Second one assembled fine but after using it three times the line started wrapping around the shaft. Turns out the line cutter has broken off Called the store and too bad you have to find the receipt (they are the only ones who sell this brand in Canada) and got through Ryobi and a third party repair depot. Been buying Ryobi 18v products for years, but this is a poorly designed poorly built piece of junk.

I purchased the string with the help of a “Ryobi specialist “ that was onsite at Homedepot who told me it’s the strongest available. It wouldn’t self feed and would end up breaking off from use because it wouldn’t self feed. Then I had to remove the the cover to restring the line and replace the cover… over and over! I thought it was an issue with the edger so I brought it back and exchanged it for another. SAME ISSUE! So frustrating trying to get the job done and keep needing to stop and restring it! The string isn’t cheap and I ended up going through an entire $24 pack trying to get the job done! I’m using this at my home, not a big job but turned into a big job needing to stop every 5 min to restring it. One more mention .. the plastic blades that are included don’t last either. Broke within the first 10 min. I’m a huge Ryobi supporter, I own MANY Ryobi tools but this one I don’t recommend you buy!

Can you adjust the shaft length with this model?

Hi John, in the middle of this straight shaft trimmer is a tightening piece. This locks the whole unit together for safety measures. You can increase or decrease the total length of this trimmer by about an inch when loosening this section. Thanks, RYOBI Canada.

Is the handle length adjustable? It doesn't say so in the specs but from the photo it appears it might be. This is a deal/no deal question as a device that is too long is very difficult for a shorter person to use.

Used this trimmer several times now, twice as an edger.  Placing it into edger mode is easy, does not return to trimmer though, extremely stiff.  Instructions are not clear. Am I missing something?

I find mine stiff too coming back to Trimmer. No viable solution I could find, but it does come back with a slight worry of breaking. I've used the edger once a week (at most) and am very pleased with this Unit. On Sunday I only used one Battery to do trim/edge 8000 sf lot.

What battery is supposed to come with this trimmer? All the marketing shows that the trimmer comes with the Lithium+ 4ah battery (P108), but the unit i received came with the regular 4ah lithium (PBP005).

On my ryobi one+13" cordless trimmer batter showed full charged .but when I used it for the first time it only lasted 10 minutes. It says it will last an hour. Why did it die so quick

Hi Prince, Our 4.0Ah battery should last up to 1 hr when fully charged. We usually do not hear of run-time issues but since we produce so many batteries there can be the odd one that does not perform well. You have some options to help fix this issue. (1) return the product kit/battery to your local Home Depot and they will exchnage it for a new one. (2) contact a near by service centre or go in, as they will be able to give you a new one. (3) give our battery replacement centre a call at 877-655-5250. For Home Depot product exhcnages, the product can not be older than 90-days.
