Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy but convenient I'd guess this is about twice the weight of my pneumatic finishing nailer - close to my pneumatic framing nailer - but less than half the weight of my nailer & pancake compressor combined. So for the cottage, or anywhere you have to haul a compressor, this is awesome. For a full day job, I'll use the pneumatic. For smaller jobs or up a ladder, this looks like it will be brilliant. Oh, compared to pneumatic, this nailer is slow: pull the trigger then wait a second or two. Comes set for single shot but can be converted to on contact firing, which given the delay I might just do.

Was very pleased with it's performance. I liked that I did not have to get out the air compressor or fight an air hose to get it the correct position. This nailer has a built in compressor and was easy to position. I like it because I have several small jobs that just need the trim work finished and this is perfect for that kind of work. The nail set depth is very easy to adjust. Also the wife uses it, so that is one more bonus!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maybe I bought a lemon The price is right, not too heavy with the 4ah battery and good performance driving brads. Unfortunately I’m going to return mine due to it locking up randomly. I replaced about 60 fence pickets and used this to tack them in place before driving screws, it shut down on me 8 times over the length of the job. I was only putting 3 nails per plank so I wasn’t going nuts bump driving tons of nails. I had to remove and replace the battery a few times to get the unit to start back up, I used 3 different batteries so I know they weren’t the issue. Maybe I’ll return it and grab the 18ga model, reviews show better luck there. It’s a shame because it’s a nice nailer I just don’t want it suddenly dying on me.

I am in the process of replacing my deck railing, balusters... I have a deck overhang, which is supported by 4 pillars... which I thought were wood, but turned out to be rigid foam molded around a metal pole. When I started the demo, the existing composite railing was attached to the "foam" by sealant/caulk on the edges and by what I believe are 16 gauge finishing nails. The fact that I stood on these railings to put up Christmas lights, the foam must be somewhat strong. Is this tool and associated 16-gauge finish nails sufficient to secure redwood 2x6 and 2x4 hand rails to the foam surrounding metal poles? And possibly the 1x1 balusters to the rails (how the old construction was).

I use 15 gauge for my exterior stuff. 16 might be a bit too weak for something like ballisters

I see a 15-gauge version that is specifically made to nail at angles... at the risk of sounding dumb, can this 16-gauge nailer still nail in at an angle if needed, or is it ONLY for straight nailing?
Asked by: CT
Conrad, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless AirStrike 16-Gauge 2-1/2 in. Straight Finish Nailer (Tool Only) with Sample Nails. This is a straight nailer. You could point the nailer at an angle but it would drive best when you are straight nailing. Does this nail gun have as much power as the DeWalt Finish Nailer? I'm trying to decide if I should get a DeWalt 15-Gauge Finish Nailer and a Ryobi 18-Gauge Brad Nailer or if I should get the DeWalt 18-Gauge Brad Nailer and this Ryobi 16-Gauge Finish Nailer? Cost savings is why I don't just buy both DeWalt.
