Rated 4 out of 5 by from First shovel use bought this Dec 7, finally got to use it on Dec 14. About an inch and a half of snow fell. powers through the snow with no problem. did my entire 80ft x 8ft driveway plus front and street sidewalk and patio with it. (obviously not ment for the whole drive way) just wanted to see how long the 4.0 amp high performance battery that i bought with it would last. I finished everything without the battery dying (55 minutes). one bar was left on the battery. My only complaint is it is not directional. (Maybe Ryobi could put a swivel vane on either side to make it directional) To remedy this i simply ran the shovel at an angle to at least send the snow off to the side a little.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow !! Purchased this unit when it was on sale. Was easy to assemble using instructions provided.Has a sold weight with good quality build. The unit has exceeded my expectations. Cleared 6cm depth , of heavy, wet, snow rain mix with ease. My larger corded electric snowthrower bogs down with this type of heavy wet snow mix . Cleared two driveways ( 6 car parking). 4 standard size city sidewalks in front of our home and neighbors homes. Cleared roadway in front of the neighbors home and our home. All on one single fully charged battery. Unit still had a single light remaining of the 4 lights on battery on battery indicator. This is now my go to machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful enough little cordless snow shovel I bought this unit as it uses the standard 18V batteries that I use with my other tools didn't want yet one more battery system to contend with. It comes with a 4 A battery that fits my other tools that I have. This shovel was bought to clear my deck and areas the bigger snow blower can not go. Works well upto 6"depth. Heavy snow may need a couple of passes but it moves it. Send it a good 10 to 15 feet no problem for most of its discharge cycle not noticing any real slowing or loss of performance to even one bar of charge. I am pleased with the shovel does what it says it will do. On one charge I cleared a double width 4 car drive if an inch snd a half of wet snow, did the deck and the front porch. It is great for cleaning up after the big snowblower too. So far pleased and impressed with this shovel. It works better than I expected and more importantly does the job!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Bad. Better Than Expected Works good for what it is. Bought it to clear the back deck so we have access to the hot tub and it did a good job. Had about 8" of wet snow with crusty ice mixed in and didn't have any problems. I beat on the machine a little too scraping up some of the ice stuck against the wood and the auger just smashed it up and spit it out without breaking. Running the machine on Dewalt batteries and an amazon adapter and it works without issue. My only complaint is that it could have a little more power and use a little more battery but I get that not everyone has a shelf full of tool batteries and there is a balance between efficiency and power. I'm quite happy with this purchase, while it may not be faster than shoveling it sure is less work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance I have had this shovel for about a month now. It has gone beyond my expectations, I highly recommend this product. I bought this to shovel my walkway and backyard space, but ended up doing my double driveway as well. It is powerful and fairly light to maneuver. 2 thumbs up from this guy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it I have many Ryobi tools. They have been durable and reliable. This snow shovel is the worst Ryobi purchase I have made. I have used it 2x and the auger stopped turning while I was using it. I thought the snow may have clogged it as it was -21 deg C. I brought it in to thaw. I swapped in a new battery and the auger barely did 1 rotation and then stopped. Save your money. Use a regular shovel.

Does the trigger allow you to control the speed / distance the snow is thrown?

Asked by: Danny
The trigger only allows on or off, I didn’t notice it as a speed control (only used it twice so far).  The first time snow was wet and heavy and didn’t seem to throw the distance stayed in the reviews I read.  The second time the snow was not as heavy, and it did throw a long way.  We also have a large gas snowblower..same thing happens with the throwing distance when snow has different weight.

Is this good for harder packed snow? It’s been snowing non stop here in Winnipeg and the city has cleaned the streets leaving the pile of hardened pack snow plus the hardened snow that wasn’t cleared…wondering how well if at all it can tackle this job

Asked by: Chanti
I have the 40V version of this tool and while it's a little more powerful than this 18V, I can confirm the 40V has zero issues with packed snow (or even ice chunks that break off from the asphalt; it also cut off a low-hanging branch of my cedar tree; and pull weeds from under snow). All that to say... yes, these battery powered shovels can handle packed snow. Just not in a single pass like a big snow blower with metal augers. Keep in mind everything here (or almost) is plastic. The two best ways I found to deal with packed snow from city plows are: Method 1: do small chunks: either attack the packed snow bank from the front: give the tool a push straight into the packed snow (say 10-15cm), pull it back, push it forward again and keep doing 10-15cm at a time until you break through. It can take a while, but it's way easier than shovelling it with a regular shovel. Method 2: grind away at the snow bank from the side: start on one of the snow bank and push the shovel parallel to the longer side of the packed snow; using only about half the width of the auger; don't bite off more than the machine can chew. Then make another pass using only about half the width of the thrower. Keep going at it till you're through. Or combine both methods.  Either way... I find it much easier to deal with our packed snow than shovelling. This is also much easier and surprisingly works well with wet heaving snow. Stuff that would nearly kill me if I pushed it by hand; my battery powered shovel just throws it forward and off my driveway. It doesn't throw it far mind you; but again; easier than pushing super heavy wet snow with a shovel. Big Warning though... the spinning auger is plastic. So far, mine survived encounters with gravel rocks, cedar tree branches, frozen weeds, a layer of freezing rain in between 2 snow layers; multiple encounters with icy chunks... and it's holding up pretty well. But I can't imagine it will last forever... plastic is plastic.

Can this snow shovel handle 2 meters of snow on the deck?

Asked by: Smily
The electric snow shovel easily clears snow up to 4-6 inches which is the height of the rotating blade, but any amount of snow in excess would require more passes to clear completely but that is based on speculation rather than actual personal experience.

Does it come with wheels on both ends? If not, it must be not easy to push on surfaces. Can it be used to clear 2 - 3 ft snow in layers in multiple passes? Is that convenient?

Asked by: AsiAsi
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V ONE+ Cordless 10-inch Snow Shovel Kit with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger. This snow shovel does not come with wheels. If you are looking for a wheeled version, we do have the 12-inch Snow Shovel (RY408130VNM). Our 10-inch snow shovel has a clearing depth of 6" which would be the most optimal depth for the tool, although it is capable of clearing snow deeper with multiple passes. I hope this helps! For further information, please contact RYOBI Customer Support at 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.

Is there a way to use this without pressing the trigger constantly. While it's great for alleviating pain in my shoulders, now my hands are ridiculously sore.

Is there a way to control the distance or angle that snow is thrown?

Asked by: Danny
Hi Daniel, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V ONE+ Cordless 10-inch Snow Shovel Kit with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger. This snow shovel does not have any chute controls. You may choose the direction at which the snow shoots by changing the angle of the snow shovel itself. I hope this helps! Will this work on a gravel driveway?

Asked by: Jan47
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V ONE+ Cordless 10-inch Snow Shovel Kit with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger. This product is most ideal for paved/hard surfaces such as sidewalks, paved driveways and decks. Using this snow shovel on a gravel driveway may damage the auger. What is motor RPM and Ampere? Does it come with a headlight? Can it be a good (or best) choice for one-car paved small driveway (12 ft x 30 ft) in a attached 3BR townhome in Waterloo area? What is best choice for that? Pls reply early. Thanks!

Asked by: AsiAsi
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 18V ONE+ Cordless 10-inch Snow Shovel Kit with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger. This snow shovel does not have a RPM rating. The Amps of the tool will depend on the battery being used, this kit in particular comes with a 4.0Ah battery. It does not have a headlight and has a runtime of 20-30 minutes which should be adequate for a driveway of that size. If you are looking for a tool strictly for clearing your driveway, the 18-inch Snow Blower (RY40890VNM) may be a more efficient option. For further information, please contact RYOBI Customer Support at 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.
