Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery life kills a good product. Great trimmer, works well, Well constructed, sturdy and durable, easy to change and wind spool. Really nothing wrong with the unit itself.Battery life is just nowhere near where it should be for an electric product. 10 mins of cutting time total, before you’re back on the charger waiting. Should either come with a larger capacity battery or one with as advertised Ah.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi tri.mer I was looking for a cordless, lightweight trimmer because I don"t have the strength to pull cords. So far, so good. Charges quickly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Automatic Feed Spool System is not working I bought this item as I was looking for a reliable company to upgrade *all* my gardening tools with the same battery system. I also relied on the good score given by others. So I got this and a hedge trimmer. It's easy to assemble and the motor is super quiet BUT : the automatic feeding spool system that is activated by the speed handle is just a VERY BAD total misconception. I wasted the whole filament, all twisting under the plastic between the spool and the engine etc. A real ugly nightmare. I am still hesitant to return it tomorrow morning , as almost all Ryobi share the same stupid feature, OR try some trick I found online to disable the feeding mechanism that rely on a small weight and a spring inside the spool that are responsible for the spool to constantly unload. A very rare "0" recommendation for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great trimmer We have tried all types of trimmer: 1. 120v corded trimmer -the extension cable is a nuisance. They seem to break after a year. 2. 2-stroke trimmer - very difficult to start - the mixed fuel is a nuisance 3. 4-stroke trimmer- impossible to start - heavy Finally we tried this Cordless Battery String Trimmer - no starting issues - light to carry - battery lasts a long time on a charge. - my wife uses the same battery in a leaf blower - happy at last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Passes the test. So far very happy with trimmer, very light weight which was important for me. Easy change spool, good power & with full charge battery lasts long enough to trim our property which is approximately 60’ x150’, but the only thing that would be nice to have is a lock trigger switch so you wouldn’t have to hold it down when trimming, other than that, the trimmer passes the test for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst line trimmer I had a $29 B&D corded trimmer that was working very well. I decided to upgrade to a cordless model and bought this Ryobi trimmer. This was a mistake. The line is so brittle the first spool did not even last one battery charge. I had to order the RYOBI Premium Spiral and wait 10 days. This line is even worse. It breaks constantly. Save your money and buy another brand.

Do you have to buy the pods/spools or can you rewind them yourself .

Asked by: whiplash
Hi whiplash, Thanks for reaching out to us. You can purchase the full spools individually or in 3 to 5 packs. You can also rewind the empty spools yourself with 0.065 or 0.080 line. To learn more about this process and what line to use with your trimmer, contact 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.

Does the lockout button need to be pressed while operating or just at start? If while operating what is the reason for that?  First ryobi tool purchased is it normal that there is grease in the battery slot on the trimmer?   Thanks

Asked by: mario4
Hi -mario4, Thanks for reaching out to us. It is normal to see grease on components such as battery terminals, battery connections, steel areas, etc. The reason for this is to prevent corrosion as the product can be within it's box for sometime. The lock/safety button needs to be pressed/held down while in operation. This is to help user error and to prevent any safety concerns. For more information on our products, processes, and services, please contact 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.

I got my online order delivered a day ago and I notice the bottom shaft that has the head does not have 2 pre-drilled holes to connect the top shaft of the handle, is this by design for ryobi p20100. In the user manual picture the bottom shaft has it

Asked by: Dat N
I went into the store and open a floor model and confirmed that this is by design. The bottom shaft does not have 2 drilled holes of where it should have for the screw to fasten too This is a poor design which I understand why newer model has a clamp instead of screw

Can you rewind the trimmer spool yourself or do you have to replace the spool?

Asked by: Al47
You can rewind the spool, refill the spool and pretty much do what you want to the spool. I purchased an additional 3 spools and filled them up with generic trimmer line so I can just pop them in when I like.
