The new brushless version performs better than the original and has already worked great in a coupe of projects. Regarding the previous review it is obvious he doesn’t have the tool or severally lacks aptitude to learn about the tool. While the arbor listed is indeed correct the tool can take standard 4 1/2 inch discs as it has a spacer and locking ring. Finding discs is no problem at all and in fact enhanced as it can take standard 7/8 hole discs or threaded arbor specific discs such as 3m dewalt etc. Great tool

The cutoff tool works great and is very portable, which is why I got it to make cuts in the field where I didn't have a power source. Cut life may be a little short depending on how much battery you have available for the job. For the maiden voyage, I took three batteries (one lower capacity and two high capacity, all fully charged the night before), and had to make 5 cuts of 2"x 2" x 10awg angle iron and one cut on 2" x 1/2" plate, where I exhausted the low capacity battery and 1/2 of one of the high capacity batteries. Tool cut great, but you do have to take it a little easy or the tool shuts off.

I have almost every Ryobi tool made but am not really happy with this grinder at all. I prefer the $40 version that isn’t brushless just because the power trigger is where a trigger should actually be on any tool. Where your finger can actually squeeze it when needed. For some odd reason the engineers at Ryobi decided to put the on/off switch on the top of this brushless grinder. Very dumb design. I wonder if the next version of drills will have the on/off switch on top? Come on Ryobi, design smarter. Not harder. Oh and I actually think the brushless motor is not as smooth as the motor with brushes and is only $40 instead of $100.

Though I'm a huge fan of Ryobi and have mini Ryobi tools, this new grinder was a disappointing surprise. Though this new version of the grinder had better quality accessories and overall frame build in my opinion, I was disappointed by the performance. While cutting through 1/8 inch material, it would cut off every few seconds due to what I'm guessing is a thermocouple that was way too sensitive. The cheaper version of the Ryobi grinder seems to be much more forgiving when put under any load. I bought this unit brand new at the beginning of 2019, tried for most of a day to use it on a job, and ended up working on my old grinder to get it going again since I've used it for about 3 years with no problems. In the end I just bought another one of the $50 models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great and powerful Great tool super powerful. For the guy who gave this a one star for not finding cut wheels for this. Should never be allowed to touch any power tool for real. Give a product 1 star cause he or she not smart enough to know any 4 1/2 wheel or blade is 1000 percent compatable as any brand or cored grinder. Some of people reviews are Ridiculous this tool dose what its ment to do

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, doesn't bog down. I have had great luck with this and have put over 1000s of hours building with my Ryobi tools, without fail. This grinder has done a lot of hard work, I've gone through dozens of cutoff wheels and grinding wheels and it still goes strong. I own a Haunted Attraction and we build sets that cover over 13,000 square feet. This along with a dozen other Ryobi tools have not let us down with our builds. They have been dropped, stepped on, ran battery after battery through them and still keep going.

I picked this up after the expected disappointment from the low rpm brushed grinder. The brushless P423 made up for it. While not quite as powerful as your average 7A wired grinder, it does well enough to handle the same jobs cutting steel etc. The torque is fine, the primary difference is the ~11,000 rpm where most corded come in around 13,000+ etc. Putting a 4A battery in certainly makes a huge difference with longevity, and a bit of a bump to torque as well. Cutting hard steel like bed frames, stainless steel etc it does fine without getting overly hot and the battery hold throughout every project position I was in (usually 1-2 bars remaining). I have since put a flap sander on the old P421 which makes it suitable being 6500 rpm, and am able to use both productively. If you need a cordless grinder capable of replacing a corded, this is about as close as you'll get with the 4A. You'll need multiple batteries if you use it all day of course, but for typical project usage it's fine and has replaced my corded in all but the most taxing jobs where I need that little extra power.

I put on a wire cup brush to hit some rust on a firewall I was cleaning to paint. I put in a small battery fully charged (1.5 amp/hr). I started cleaning and it stopped in about 20 seconds. I figured because it was a small battery. If I turned it back on it would run again but only for a short time. I then put on a fully charged 4 amp/hr battery basically did the same thing. After about 40 seconds would quit have to turn it off and then back on a real PIA. I called Ryobi and they told be to take it back. I got a new one and it did the same thing. I returned it for a refund and will buy a Dewalt.

why can't you find cut off wheels that will fit this particular tool? I have searched in store and online as well. There are no cut off wheels that fit 4 1/2 x 5/8 (arbor size) . there are 7/8. How can this be a cut off tool when there are no blades that will fit?
Asked by: arf
in my opinion, it is an angle grinder and there are plenty of things that attach to the arbor this uses. the actual thin cut off wheels are not made to fit this. I use grinding discs and even cement grinders on it.

Does anyone else have a problem with their run time?

I have many 4A batteries and they all drain within 5-8 minutes when using this brushless grinder. I know my batteries are still good. Runs long with my other tools. Maybe my grinder is defective.
Asked by: GuamGuy
Yes. Ryobi said to use a larger than 4ah battery, but they are not out to the public yet.

Can I use this tool to put an edge on a shovel or garden hoe? In other words, can I use it to sharpen things?

Asked by: Cliff
Yes. Use caution to keep the edge from getting hot or the steel will get too soft to hold an edge.

I use a 4 amp battery and this thing stalls out and shuts off with very little pressure. Is there a fix for this?

Asked by: Tommy
I have used my 4-1/2", one+, brushless angle grinder with a 4ah battery to cut 1/4' thick 2"x2" angle iron with no stalling or shut off. Your problem maybe: a bad battery, your pushing to hard on the tool, or possibly you have a defective grinder. Any tool can be overloaded if worked to hard. If your tool stalls while displaying full power you maybe pushing the tool with to much force on the work. Very little pressure should be put on the tool when cutting or grinding. Let the cutting or grinding wheel do the work. Excessive pressure on the tool when grinding or cutting will overload it causing shut off on internal thermal safety.
