Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice but the blade jams and then hard to fix Bought 18 months ago and used it a lot around the cottage. Then the blade jammed. The design of the housing hides all the stuff away so you have to cut the rubber housing to get into the gears. Looks like it will cost about 1/2 of the purchase price to buy a replacement blade housing. So now I am stuck with the dilemma of buying a cheaper one and expecting to throw them away when they jam or switching to another brand

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very light duty and has a few design flaws Have had one of these for about a year and a half, it's handy but never been a stellar performer. Great for smaller projects and light pruning but for demo and heavier tasks they just don't last. Blades tend to have a lot of up and down movement even when clamped properly into the chuck and can quickly chew up the LED light and plastic around it. Have also had issues with the blade just randomly popping out if it catches a nail in the wood. Recently it lasts through only about two 2x4's and cuts out before needing a cooldown. Needed to get a fence cut down so ran out and grabbed a new one and a couple fresh demo blades while I was there... halfway through the 4th 2x4 and it was smoking and spitting out green plastic shards so it's basically done before it even started... NOT impressed. The new one's going back and the old one's going in for warranty as soon as I can find the bill. Might have to go back to the non-brushless version, had the same flaws but only costs half as much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful I had an old blue ryobi 18 volt reciprocating saw. It worked well and served me well. This new saw is much more pwerful! Hopefully I get the same years of flawless service as I did from it's predecessor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool Great tool, used it to demo a hot tub, worked well but don't use with the 1.3 ah batteries as these drained super fast under high load. Would definitely recommend this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This saw is a beast I bought this to replace my old reciprocating saw it was an 18v ryobi that i have used for years. This new brush-less saw is a beast, it has twice the power of the old one

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy Tool Because it is battery operated, it doesn’t have quite the umph that a corded powered one would have. Having said this, it is a great tool.

It seems there is a ball/pin inside which should move to go into the hole on the blade and it does not move. Should it?

Asked by: Donna
Hi There, Yes it should to lock in the blade. Either it is stuck or you are not pulling up on the lever enough to move the pin or any combo of each. If needed you could perhaps try something like a little squirt of WD-40 to loosen it up if stuck. Good luck

I just got this saw and I don't think the blade sits in it properly. The 9" pruning blade wiggles top to bottom about an inch so I tried the blade that came with it and that wiggles top to bottom about 1/2". Tried for 30 minutes. Help? Common problem?

Asked by: Donna
Donna, When you put a 9-inch blade on this reciprocating saw it will have some play. We suggest that you hold the tool vertically and let the blade sit it the tool with the side clip open. This will allow the blade to sit as far back as it can go and to make sure its inserted properly. We hope this information helps! Thanks, RYOBI Canada.

I've just purchased this saw. It seems to perform as well as I expected, however I was surprised at the high frequency whine that it emits. Is this normal? I feel that I will have to wear ear protection when I use it. Norm

Asked by: Norm
That is not normal. Mine does not make that noise. It is a great tool and had met all my needs.

Went to change the blade and it is stuck in the saw. Refuses to come out. Fought with it for over 10 minutes already. Any suggestions? Tried everything. I have changed it once already, would like to again...

Asked by: Donna
Hi Donna, Thanks for reaching out. This is not a common issue but we can understand how/why it happens. Due to friction and the blade/front of the saw heating up a blade can expand and become stuck. If possible try spraying WD-40 or related product in their to help loosen it up. Then take pliers and grib the blade while pulling and it may come out. If this does not work please contact a local servcie centre and or our customer service line at 1-800-525-2579. Thanks, RYOBI Canada.

The blade fits loosely It wiggles up and down about an inch. Fought with it for about 40 minutes, even tried a different blade. Doesn't seem right to me. Something wrong with it?

Asked by: Donna
I have used mine for approx. 1 year and works great. Unless you buy a saw that has a screw down bade holder all quick connect types have a bit of play. I inch seems excessive.
