Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery only last 10 minutes!!!!! I bought this a week ago, it took 3 days for the Home Depot to have my order ready for pickup. I charged the batteries last night, this lawnmower comes with 2 batteries and one charger. This morning I assembled it (easy process) and after only 10 minutes using this lawnmower the battery died. I changed the battery for the second one and again, no more than 10 minutes and it was dead. I am returning this to the Home Depot. For $378 + tax I was expecting more. It is light, easy to assemble BUT it doesn’t work. I am very dissatisfied. My first experience with this brand Ryobi and I am not impressed. I will avoid this brand in the future.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from First impression like the others below Recently got into Ryobi with their BOGO compact tool discount. My old lawn mower finally broke down so I decided to replace it with this model, despite the recent reviews. Unfortunately, my first impression of this mower echos those reviews. On both battery fully charged (I checked all four green lights), I was able to get the front lawn (15x30) and about a 40x20 section of my backyard (25%) cut, well below the advertised .25 acre. Total runtime was about 10 min per battery. Granted, my lawn is abit long, so I don’t want to condemn this product yet, but I am planning on returning this product if it still performs this poorly on shorter grass.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Bit of Battery Anxiety with 10 min per 4.0 Ah Finally pulled the trigger and bought a cordless lawnmower as I was using a corded mower prior. The lawnmower works great but I get battery anxiety when mowing front and backyard, approx 700-800 sqft of lawn in total. I used one 4.0Ah battery per lawn. After charging both to full, i was able to approximate the battery life depending on usage. High grass (at lowest deck height) = more resistance = more power drawn, it would last about 5-7 minutes on full power. If I am doing just small grass cuts with minimal-moderate resistance (deck height at second to last notch), each 4.0 Ah battery will last me around 10 minutes. The on-board sensor automatically adjust the mowing power, which is great, in extending your battery life if there is minimal cutting resistance. The advertised 40 minute run time is probably when they powered it on and did not cut grass, causing motor to work less, thus less power drawn and you can probably run it for 20 minutes for each battery. Again, its not a realistic advertisement Ryobi did for posting 40 minute runtime. Tip: Keep you batteries indoors vs your garage so you can have more runtime when batteries at their nominal temp. I find it that cold batteries (spring time weather) will cut that runtime to half. Overall, if you want to just have a decent cut lawn, this is a good buy. You might want to get extra higher Ah batteries (6 Ah or more) though to relieve you of battery anxiety while cutting the lawn. Also, its a good buy if the promotion for free tool (string trimmer, blower or chainsaw) is available. otherwise, lawnmower alone is not worth the price. Ryobi, you should be pairing this mower with the new 6.0 Ah battery or the 9.0 Ah so that you wont get as much bad reviews as all the bad reviews are from the 4.0 Ah batteries.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Battery Life I purchased this 2 days ago and with 2 fully charged batteries it would not even cut my front and back lawn (tapprox 1000 SF) and each battery ran out of charge in <10 min. The Ryobi website advertises up to 40 minutes of run time per charge and I got less than a quarter of that. I finished my lawn using my old hand mower and tried again the following day with both batteries fully charged on a pre-cut lawn and again could not get through the entire front and back yard. Am returning to exchange for the 40V model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery life lie but noone cares Just bought. Both batteries dead, not good for lithium. Charged, cut dry by 1 to 1.5 inches. Ran 10 minutes. Battery so hot safety turned on.had to cool to charge. 40 minutes cutting not possible. 1 HP motor at 18 volts is 40 minutes run in free air no load. But then who cares Nothing is getting fixed,no larger batteries included,no help from Ryobi. The sadness comes because I'm a fan of the tools. Good fit, good quality, good value. So why not make a mower package that works for 30 minutes to cut small lawn that's what we need. Do not buy unless you really understand 10 min per 4sh battery.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Lawn Mower - But Batteries Are Useless I bought the lawn mower a few months ago for the cottage. Not a big property. The batteries are stored in a cool dry place and fully charged when I start. I get about 10 minutes and then the battery dies. It states that it has overheated. So I have to wait till it cools down, then charge again. It takes me all day to cut the lawn. Both batteries overheat and I assume they are defective?? Can they be exchanged ?? The lawn mower works great though. Haven't received much help from customer service in regards to this matter. Am I out of luck ???

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Mower& Trimmer Terrible Battery I bought this Mower and received the trimmer with it as a promotion. Both unit are great. I used them for the first time this weekend. But the 4 amp batteries are terrible. I used both batteries fully charged and wasn’t able to get through my lawn which is 25 minutes front and back! I had to recharge my batteries and finish the next day. The 40 minute runtime was very misleading. To get anywhere near that, I’d recommend buying the 9 amp battery.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great mower but underwhelming batteries I completely agree with SuperTinyTomato and Brett C's reviews. I too got the trimmer as part of the promotion and am very satisfied with the tools but Ryobi really cheaped out on the batteries and ruined what is otherwise a great product. Just like SuperTinyTomatao I figured with the One+ HP branding of the tools that the package would include HP batteries that were up to the job but was disappointed after opening the box to see the cheapest batteries they offer included. These batteries seem like they would be great when used with Ryobi lights due to the low and slow draw but are not up to the job in a lawn mower. I didn't get anywhere near 40 minutes with both batteries and they were used in dry and warm conditions and the grass was by no means overgrown. Ryobi really should have included the One+ Lithium+ HP batteries in the 4.0 ah or more appropriately as others have pointed out included a One+ Lithium+ HP 9.0 ah battery so we could fully mow our lawn with just a single battery. Now I have to decide whether I should just return the mower and trimmer or spend another $120 (30% of the cost of the mower itself) to get a battery to make the mower usable. It seems crazy to me to have to spend more money a week after purchasing a new product just to get it to work as they advertise (40 minute run time)

So the old unit uses 2 high capacity batteries but this uses only one regular battery? What's the biggest batteries that can fit?

Asked by: wandplease
I'm going to answer my own question as I ended up buying it. I love it. Works great. I have a medium sized yard and the 4ah battery cuts the front and the second battery is not enough for the back. I have a 6ah that I use. Works great. FYI Ryobi Canada, it only holds one battery not 2. It comes with 2 but you can only use one at a time. Might want to brush up on your product knowledge. It states clearly that it is for small yard but also that it will cut a 1/4 acre...with both batteries. Hope this helps somebody.

Given most reviews seem years old, has there been improvement on the battery life of this machine? I have a smaller yard & already own a selection of 18v batteries, the 2 included are a benefit, but given the ~10 minute runtime, there are still concerns

Asked by: S7L4ur3n7
No idea , mine are just 4.0 mah I think it’s still working great but I can only do half the yard before I have to charge or switch batteries. . My yard is 45 x 125 or so .

Many people complain about battery issues. Are those issues already fixed by RYOBI ?. I don't want to buy this product if it still has that problem.

Asked by: Venboy
No the batteries suck big time. I am returning the unit to HD this long weekend. I got the unit 1 week ago and charged the batteries many times (after they ran out) to get full charge yet I barely get 10 minutes when the batteries are rated for 40 minute. That is false advertising and i would take them to court if they don't give me a better battery or take the machine back.

Hello, will the 9.0 ah one+ batteries fit in this?

Asked by: Basil
Yes. I use 2 of them and mow the edges, hard to get areas on a very large lot, over an acre of lawn. One hour on the ride on mower and one hour of edging using ryobi 18 volt 9 ah batteries. I find the 4 ah batteries somewhat inadequate.

I bought the RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP Brushless Cordless 16-inch mower last year and was quite happy with it so far. My unit came with two 4.0 Ah batteries. One battery went dead and could not be recharged after a few rounds. Is there warranties on the batteries

Asked by: Raymond
I think there is. I think it’s One year. Glad you liked yours. I didn’t. After a couple uses I returned it because the mower was very weak and the batteries didn’t last for one charge.
