Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Ryobi product I've ever bought I do like Ryobi cordless tools and I have a ton of them. But this drill is garbage. Yes, it's light and has good battery life. But it has no clip to hold a screw bit (like when you want to switch from Torx to Phillips), no magnetic surfaces (to hold a screw or a bit), and the chuck gives up the bit anytime you reverse the drill, even without touching the chuck. And the worst feature is the keyless chuck. The knurling on the plastic is fine and sharp, guaranteed to filet the skin off of your hand anytime you try to tighten it. Ryobi should be embarrassed to sell this. I'm going back to the full-size drill and parking this one in the back of a drawer in my shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Who Would of Thought? 20 years ago I bought a combination set of 1/2" drill, sawzall, circular saw and work light. Who would of thought when I bought the Compact 1/2" drill, the battery charger and spare battery in December 2020 that it would breathe new life into my 20 year old tools also. The new lithium batteries work in the old tools as well as the new tools. The new compact drill/driver is nice to use because of its lighter weight and smaller size. Kudos to Ryobi for thinking about the customer/consumer of their products for developing new products to work with their vintage products.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mildly disappointed due to lack of features. I purchased the PSBDD01CN (1/2" compact drill) as a possible replacement for one of my P208Bs (1/2" standard drill). If you remove the batteries from the 2 drills and place them side-by-side, the height is nearly identical. The compact drill is about 2" shorter (from the back of the motor casing to the front of the chuck). The chuck is shorter than normal and does not hold bits as tightly as the standard. The compact drill does not have a friction clip for a drill bit and does not have the handy magnetized area for screws or more bits. It also comes without the built in level on the P208B. It does have a meaningless LED light that is of very marginal utility. I'll keep it, but it does not replace the P208B.

I have three other Ryobi One+ drills, and this one is destined to become my favorite. I've had the One+ system since it first came out in 2004, and still have the original blue drill that was in my first kit (and still use it). I think Ryobi was the first company to develop the "one battery - many tools" concept, but it was the right way to go, and now everyone is on the bandwagon. The new brushless tools are a great improvement, I already have the drill and the one-handed reciprocating saw, and will add more as I can.

I’m pretty loyal to Ryobi (LOVE my lawnmower, and leaf blower.) I love the one+ battery system! However, this driver was an epic fail for me! I have projects to do and the driver is COMPLETELY USELESS until I order a screwdriver bit! Why isn’t it included IN THE BOX? Why am I the only person with a bad review?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just love this new Ryobi drill from their new High Performance Brushless ONE+ 18V tool line! This new drill is significantly smaller than previous ONE+ drills and I believe that it is just as powerful. It is lighter and has the same torque adjustment and drill settings for using it as a screwdriver or drill. The smaller package redesign eliminates the magnetic pad and bit clip of the larger drill. (I wish they had added about 3 bit clips and eliminated just the magnetic pad.) I love the LED light for low light work. The small size gets it in smaller places! In this case, smaller is better!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failed clutch after light use Im not sure whats going on with Ryobi, ever since I have started upgrading my older 18V Ryobi versions to the new Ryobi 18V One HP tools it seems the reliabilty has gone down hill. I posted a review on their One HP sawzall as I had two units fail withing less then 5 minutes of use and now my One HP 1/2” drill just had its cutch completely fail less then 4 months out of the box. I have purchased 50 Ryobi tools over the years due to their price point and cross over with their batteries. Im a light duty weekend warrior who only works on small DIY projects around the Farm. Just getting very dissapointed lately as these tools hardly get used and have been failing so often.

This drill/driver has plenty of power, a good weight, and good balance. The compact size if great, especially when working inside cabinets. The LED light is bright and does a nice job of illuminating the target area and really comes in handy in dark locations. The variable speed trigger provides smooth operation and the 24-position chuck works very well to keep you from over-driving screws. The included batteries provide ample run time and recharge quickly. Another plus, because this is part of the Ryobi ONE+ line, is that you can use a variety of batteries and use these batteries with your other ONE+ tools.

no. The chargers are some what smart and do not over charge the batteries. Using the batteries into deep discharge is more harmful. I leave batteries on my 6 place charger all the time.
