Rated 5 out of 5 by from Size and price When I saw the reveal of Ryobi's new compact line I thought that this would be perfect for the work that I do. I am retired but I build cabinets. It is almost a full-time job. I have problems with my wrist and hands, so that is is hard to use some of the heavier tools. This new compact line is perfect for me, also when you are working on cabinets some of the areas are tight, so these tools were put to use right away on my current project. I had to get used to the variable speed trigger on the impact driver, but otherwise, everything works great. The size and weight are perfect for cabinet making. I also have found that these tools are powerful enough to tackle some of the heavy-duty jobs I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An excellent tool Honestly, I didn't know an impact driver was even a thing. We were using a 10 year old cordless drill for everything. One day I was trying to get a long screw into some wood and it stopped halfway with the screw stripped. I ended up reading about impact drivers and got this one. It's been fantastic so far. I just built some raised garden beds and the 2" deck screws went in with basically no effort. My one issue with it is I don't see a way to tighten the bit. So if I angle the driver down a little the bit falls out. I've searched online to see if there is a solution and tend to get lost in other types of impact drivers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from MISSING MAGNET I am an Architect/Builder and Furniture Designer/Maker. I have been using Ryobi tools almost exclusively for many years. However I am very disappointed to in the direction Ryobi is taking with this new line-- Brushless Compact Series. They have eliminated the Magnet! This is a serious mistake. The magnet is the single feature that separates Ryobi from the rest of the drill/driver crowd. Now there is no reason not to switch to Kobalt or Ridgid or Hitachi or Makita. The magnet is a brilliant feature and they need to bring it back as soon as possible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The new brushless and compact impact driver is amazing. I... The new brushless and compact impact driver is amazing. I already have the regular impact and drill so I got this one mostly because it is the newest. But let me tell you I didn't expect it to be better that my larger impact but it was just that. Way better. Smaller, lighter and full of power. I use it all day and all week. I am a professional painter by trade and a DIYer at home. Its perfect for drywall, framing, decks, general construction. The two new batteries last long and are very light weight. I added a belt clip to mine so I can assemble things with out having to reach for the drill. Overall great driver and I would recommend to everybody.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice reduced weight and size I have been using the Ryobi 3 speed 1/4in impact for a few years. I decided to upgrade to the new HP model. I really love the reduced weight and size of the driver. My only complaint is I really liked the LED lights around the head of the impact driver on the older model better. The LED on the HP is below your hand and it seems like it is easy to block the light when driving screws. That is why I only gave 4 stars! Other than that it handles nicely and has plenty of power.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I use it professionally I've been using this impact driver for over a year in the heating business (installing wood, pellet and gas stoves and it works flawlessly. I will say the only drawback to it is it doesn't have the 4 speed mode like the 3/8 brushless HP impact wrench has. As I would hate to overdrive self tapers in stove pipe or flex pipe and can tone it down if I could. Though the variable speed trigger is about as good as the P236 model which I believe had the best variable speed trigger for an impact that Ryobi made. Hopefully in their next model they will had the speed selecter. Other than that this impact is very good for what I need to do.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Noisy and weak Compared to the regular version i have of this brushless tool, this one is noisy and requires effort to sink deck screws. I dont know if it’s the weight (significantly lighter) or just the motor. The hammering action is shorter and not as powerful as the regular version. This tool makes an amazingly annoying “BRAAAAAAPPP!” sound. After 300 screws you will wish you had ear plugs. I wish i could return it and get the non-brushless version. Ugh

Got this driver when it came out to replace a dying brushless non-compact ryobi. It really is a good driver and holds up to my abuse. I have a worn out holster on my tool belt that it falls out of 2+/- times a day. It drives over 400 self tapping metal screws per day, more recently over 1000 per day. Its durability is pretty insane for a ryobi. The one thing i wish it had is at least 1800 in-lbs of torque. Severely underpowered but very durable. My mistake for not reading the description and how much torque it has. Probably going to retire it to a DIY drill and get something a little more powerful. Still a great driver though.

Is this a refurbished impact driver?

Asked by: Charlie
No, I don't think so. I had an older version (brush motor) my favorite drill/driver that got lost in our recent move. I got this one as a replacement, omg smaller, lighter, with way more power. I sheared off the first screw I drove and had to adjust my touch it is my new favorite!

Can (or should) you use a 4Ah battery from a cordless jet fan blower in a drill/driver unit, and vice versa, the 1.5Ah driver batteries in the blower?
Asked by: DMJ
All of the Ryobi one batteries are interchangeable. The only difference is the size of the battery and how long the battery will last. For example the four hour battery last longer than a 1.5 amp hour battery but all the batteries again or interchangeable

I would not try... this is an impact screwdriver with a 1/4” collet. I have a 1/2” cordless impact wrench for that.
