Bought this about a month ago to prune trees it works great used it about 30 minutes total in the last month and now the blade mechanism is jammed it was a fight to get the blade out and now a new one will not go in Ryobi sent me to the local repair shop which is extremely busy so they said they won’t even look at it for at least two months it was never dropped and the biggest branch would have been about 3 inches there’s no way it should’ve broke already I expect a lot more from Ryobi now it’s going to be probably next year before I can use it again not impressed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic revision of baseline toolbox necessity I was reluctant to spend the money on the newest version but after I burned up the previous body type I came to find they no longer sell them but Ryobi does offer an upgrade. And an upgrade IT IS. Face it- when you're using a Sawzall it's never an ideal, easy-to-reach task. You're probably upside down trying to cut something out of a corner. Well this new Ryobi Saw DELIVERS. IT IS *SO* much lighter than the older version, and being lighter, it's a whole lot more accurate in cuts- I could throw out my oscillating tool! I ended up using my new FAVORITE saw for trimming rounded edges of the pergola corners, huge value add!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for one hand operation I purchased this saw on an impulse. I was planning on buying a full sized reciprocating saw to replace a very old Ryobi reciprocating saw. I happened to see this smaller saw on the shelf and figured I would try it since my old saw technically still works. I am so glad that I did. Ryobi designed this just right. It is perfect for one hand operation allowing you to hold your project with the other hand. It fits into tight places. I love the feel of this saw and the control I have with it. It has a slightly shorter stroke than the full size, but it has proven to be just as tough and worthy as the full size, but in a comfortable, compact, size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful saw with great selection of blades for cutting [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ryobi One 18 volt brushless one handed reciprocating hand saw is very light which makes it the tool to go to if you want to cut anything. The foot is nice and tight but you can adjust it at any angle depending on what you are cutting. The battery will last longer than you will need for any project so you don't need to carry any extra batteries around with you. The blade selection has blades to cut anything and changing it is very simple with a small tab on the side of the tool you just pull up and the blade releases, you don't need to carry around any extra tools to get blades out. One batterie fits all the tools and that makes it convenient.

I have two other reciprocating saws, where the blade lock/release mechanism is in the chuck, and you have to rotate a collar on the cutting head to release or insert a blade. This saw has an easy to access lever that locks and releases the blade with great ease. This is a great feature. Also it has an LED that helps you see what your are doing in low light situations. It cuts through 2x stock with ease. I will get the most use from this saw out trimming shooting lanes for my deer stands.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have many 18v Ryobi tools, and it is difficult not to say they are each my favorite for one reason or another. THIS TOOL is the best of them all. This tool I use almost as much as my drill. Typically, I keep a pruning blade on it for outdoor trimming, but I use it for trimming/cutting all sorts of materials with different blades. Cutting metal is easy as well. It's is so light, but cuts like a beast. It has eliminated many things I used with my larger Ryobi 18v sawzall. I keep the big saw for very heavy duty tasks. This tool stays ready to grab and go, as much as my drill.

First day using it I cut about 10 branches that were 3 to 5 inches diameter and dozens of small limbs. The 3,000SPM cuts through them fairly quickly. It's good for one hand use while holding the branch with the other hand. Would be lighter if you used a smaller amp battery but the run time would be less.The 4 amp battery makes it heavier but provides plenty of charge for a long project. I recommend getting a good quality pruning blade. I would have given 5 stars for the tool, minus one star for the online registration which is slow and not smooth.

I already have several Ryobi 18v tools with batteries so I was glad I could get just the tool itself. The quick release makes changing blades a snap. It has a .625" stroke length (less than a typical corded one) and weighs around 5 pounds. Being cordless affords me the opportunity to use this in places where extension cords are a hassle to use.

Can this tool cut through tree roots?

It can, but you'll want to clear away the dirt first, as soil and rocks will quickly dull the blades.  Also, if the roots are entangled with each other, you may have trouble finding an angle where a root doesn't block the saw.

I bought the Diablo 9 inch carbide tooth pruning blade and it works great while severely pruning a very old Lilac bush. This blade has wide, deeper teeth. The trunks are up to 7 inches in diameter. Tried the wood carbide tooth blade for nail embedded wood and it was slow. This blade has shallow, closer together teeth.
