Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and Torque - What An Upgrade My old Makita Hammer Drill is about 15 years hold and even with relatively new batteries it can't even come close to the speed and torque of the Ryobi. When I compare size I can confidently say that the Ryobi has about a 20% smaller footprint. I had to drill two holes for a satellite dish and the Ryobi went through it like butter. After using this for a few other projects I feel that with it's power and speed this Ryobi is the ultimate drilling and driving solution. I think that by using brushless motors in conjunction with their HP - High Performance batteries Ryobi is pushing into the entry level professional category. All of this with a 3 year warranty how can you go wrong.

At first I thought it might be considerably heavier than my regular Ryobi drill but to my surprise they felt close to the same weight. With the removable side handle I use this hammer drill for all drill duties. I never use my old Ryobi drill anymore so I ended up giving it to my father and I believe he has now become a new Ryobi customer since using it. He recently purchased a Ryobi nail gun like I bought and is loving it as well. All in all I’m very pleased with this Hammer Drill and it’s not heavy like some.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A big step up from my first Ryobi drill [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ryobi power tools have come a long way since I bought my first cordless saw and drill from them, many years ago. My original Ryobi cordless drill still works great, though the chuck is showing its age and has lost some of its grip. This new ½" hammer drill is a huge improvement over that very early model, both in capability as well as with build quality. These tools do last a long time - I still have and frequently use a corded hand vac that is so old that it's beige in color and does not have the Ryobi logo on the unit. As far as this hammer drill is concerned, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact but powerful This drill is very compact for a hammer drill. I will show the difference in size between my old one and this in the pictures. It is quiet and has a powerful 18v 4Ah battery to go with it. The battery will show the remaining charge by the touch of a button too. I like the integrated LED on the drill too. The handle is very easy to attach and stays in place really well. I haven't used this in cement yet, but everything else works great and as expected. I've noticed that the bags coming with a few of these Ryobi kits are flimsy and will probably fail pretty quickly, it's nice that it comes with a bag, but you will most likely want to get a better bag or put this in a tool box. Overall though, the tool and accessories work great, and I'm glad I got this.

I might have just bought a brushless that wasn't hp but this came up on a sale that i decided to just get the hp. The power is good and the drill is mostly solid. I don't love the hammer function on the chuck, the position of the light or removing the bit and magnetic holder. I preferred the lever to change to hammer drill, the LED lights at the bit and i like the bit holder. But the power of this drill almost makes up for it. If i had to do it again, i may go back to a brushless drill that's not hp but I'm not unhappy with buying this.

The auxiliary handle is included and an LED work light is also part of the drill. When the drill is placed in Hammer mode, the brushless motor provides up to 29% faster drilling. Although the drill can be a bit heavy with prolonged use, the design and the handle make the job overall easier. The battery capacity is 4Ah, and the torque is up to 750 in-lbs. Another great Ryobi product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good Used this for ice fishing. Worked great with a 8 inch and 6 inch auger. Was able to drill plenty of holes for the day with the included 4.0 battery. Eventually took it back because I couldn’t commit my whole power tool collection to the ryobi system. It seems there just isn’t enough brushless one+Hp tools offered yet. I bought Dewalt xr tools at the end of the day, but overall I was very very happy with this drill. It’s a great choice for less money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and controllable.. Excellent! I have owned this kit for a while, the hammer drill is powerful and hammers through brick, concrete and other masonry like butter. It's as powerful as my corded drill, but much more controllable. The 1/4 impact driver is my most used tool, it is amazingly powerful remember to work with the lower speed settings first and don't snap off bolt heads like I did. It's that powerful!! But the three speed settings make it easy to control. Batteries last forever. I have 1.5ah, 3ah, and 6ah all of them provide more run time than I expected. Powerful and priced right. Well done Ryobi!

Do you lose performance using this drill with the older 4ah battery? Are the extra terminals for the light or for something else?

I know I can use a regular 18v one battery with this HP but can I use the 4amh 18v HP battery with any 18v one products?

Yes you can infact it will just give you longer power. the more amps the battery the longer it will last and better power. so go ahead and use the 4 amp I use them the most. 6 amps are even better but more pricey and heavy to handle.

Can the pointer finger hand switch a variable switch? Can the speed be controlled while using it using the finger? This would help a lot of know.
