Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would be a great trimmer with some tweaks! I bought this after reading others reviews of this product and tend to agree with other reviews. 1st - the guard is way to small. It sends what your cutting flying everywhere! Definitely wear your PPE! 2nd - it's heavy with the battery. A strap would have been nice for some added support. 3rd - the power control is slow to react. 4th - it does cut very well.

Biggest disappointment is the bump feed. String seems jammed up inside. Had to pull by hand a few times in 10 minutes of usage. Will be returning!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BEWARE - BUMP FEED IS A NO-GO FOR IRREGULAR GROUND Have purchased multiple Ryobi products: Blower (x2), branch trimmer (1) and this is my third trimmer. This model was replaced by Ryobi under warranty - my previous 18V older design (guard attached to motor housing) had a guard failure when 3 of 4 plastic pins that guard screws into sheared off at housing. Anyhow, most appreciative to receive this newer model - with guard housing attached where it should be for easy replacement. BUT: 1) Within 15 minutes of using the newly assembled (correctly) unit, I noticed that line was constantly feeding and the “blade cutter” wasn’t cutting. Examined the blade attachment which had been STRONGLY screwed into the housing, and one of the screws was gone. So blade just pivoted around and wouldn’t cut. Luckily, had the proper size screws from Ryobi and inserted one of those - and again - same things happened. The cutter blade will NOT stay in its proper position and in fact that became apparent when about 30 minutes later, BOTH screws dropped off and entire cutter piece fell into grass - luckily I found it. 2) If you are trying to use this quite heavy trimmer on anything other than putting green smooth grass, good luck. If the ground is irregular, you can’t help but touch the “bump feed” resulting in this puppy eating line like a hungry lion. Doing about a 200 sq ft area required 4 refills - which is insane. Not only for interrupting your workflow, but the cost of the line. SO - be warned. If this thing so much as lightly taps the ground, new line will be fed out. Due to it’s weight (I’m a 195 pound able bodied guy) - it is VERY hard to hold it consistently off the ground - especially when the ground is uneven. Do NOT buy the bump head style for uneven ground. I gave up after 1 hour, and returned to using my original old 10” 18V to complete the job - at about twice the efficiency. Not sure what I will do with this once used “whisper series 15 inch bump feed” line - eating monster.
