Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little saw I bought this saw for light duty hobby stuff with 1/4" exotic woods but have found it capable of handling anything I feed into it. Even a 3-1/2" cut through maple burl with ease. I also tried a few different blades including a 1/8" and have had no troubles at all. I have cut 1/4" mild steel and aluminum easily. I made an extension on the mitre slide close to the blade and an adjustable fence. A much better saw than I expected for the price and more than enough for my needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Hobby Saw This is the exact same model as the previous blue model, just with the new Ryobi colours. If there are any blue models left in your local HD, save yourself a few bucks and get the blue one. You have to set your expectations accordingly with most Ryobi tools, and this one is no different. It's geared toward the hobbyist/diy person and it's priced accordingly. Do not expect a 14" Powermatic if you are buying a 9" Ryobi. Setup is easy enough. Make sure you follow the instructions and watch a few band saw setup videos on YouTube if you need to. Setup is crucial for this saw to perform to the best of it's abilities, but once done, it does a good job. You are still limited to it's 3.5" cut height and 9" depth, but is fine within those boundaries. The only issue that I've had with this saw is that I can not keep a 1/8" blade on it. I thought it was operator error until I reinstalled the 1/4" blade quickly and without error. I'm thinking the low grade tires are the culprit and that is what I'll try next. Overall, I'm glad I purchased it, but Im already seeing the need for a larger saw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for... I'd echo the sentiments of the other review here, but want to add a few things. Negs: -The worktop is flimsy, very light and under-sized. -The table tended to tilt ~1/4". -No adjustable fence? Other models have it at the same price. -Miter guide is too small to guide smaller objects through. -Most internal blade cams are mounted on brittle plastic. One broke in the first week - glued it back. Hope it holds. Positives: -Wheel/tire adjustments are adequate for accuracy, and is easy enough to centre. Requires maintenance - not a fire and forget tool. -The bandsaw is quiet with its induction motor. Kudos to Ryobi/HD on that spec. I could see some people running it in the basement after other family members have gone to bed - so long as adequate ceiling soundproofing exists (it screams cutting hardwoods). I know there are replacement blades out there for extra sound reduction. The only thing quieter after this is a Japanese pull type handsaw! Conclusion: I want the Ryobi Bandsaw to be my "go-to" saw. It's quiet and safe. 3 more inches of throat, a rip fence, and a wider, heavier table would make it a 5 star product. Get it if you ONLY want to do templated cuts, cutting small shelves and around the house tasks. Tips if you buy: You could actually fabricate a better, larger table from quality hardwood and inset it inline with another existing workbench/table. Plan on tinkering or beefing up the adjustment hardware, or inset the worktop in-line with a larger bench for flat cuts. Aftermarket fences do exist at a price. Dust collection works best with a vac or collector hose secured above or below the table. Bottom line: If you are spec'ing a complete home workshop, spending a little more will save you a fortune in frustration and forlorn fragments of forestry finery. (sorry I'm watching V for Vendetta...)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far - Specs on Home Depot site are wrong Bought 2 days ago. Used Youtube videos to supplement instructions - use them both together. Comes pretty much already set up, most pieces are already set up, minor adjustments were easy. The specs say it uses a Ryobi 40V battery system but it doesn't. It is a very decent 2.5amp motor using AC power. Operates very smoothly and quiet. Light, about 45 lbs. Cuts in 2 x 4 softwood have been effortless, haven't tried hardwood yet. Mitre attachment fits better than suggested in Youtube videos. Loved how the wheels and deck were aluminium - and very solid. Very easy to change the motor or belt. This is a machine designed to be easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent and does the job. Basic no frills offshore manufactured power tool that is of a price point for the North American purchaser. Does the job but has one clear advantage over other similar brands, the replacement blades are a standardized length. The plastic blade guide and blade wheels covers could be aluminum but this would entail a higher selling price few home DIY would be willing too pay. Adjusting saw tracking is straight forward. The unit lacks a rip fence that seems odd, and the tilt table may be an issue with stability if the movement assembly is worn after many repeated cycles. Overall, a decent bench top addition to the home workshop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect band saw for the hobbyist! Just got this today, and after about 15 minutes I was up and running. If you take your time to adjust it properly (blade tension, tracking, level the table, etc...) it works perfectly. Of course you have to take it slow, since this is not a $1000+ band saw. For example, I just made a cut in 2 inch thick MDF and it performed great. Also when in operation it is pretty silent, which is a plus. Having a band saw is a great addition to any home workshop and this one will work for most project if you don't abuse it and once again take it slow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Depends on what this is used for I bought this and returned due to my needs. Pros are if you are only cutting the templates, for example 3/4 think or less it's an ok machine. The adjustment to level is easy to use and assembly time was fair. Now cons, if you are using this saw to actually shaping the hardwood or even softwood thicker than 1 inch the blade starts to bend that will end non straight cuts. I really don't mind spending couple hundred dollar more to get a better saw. Hope Home depot soon carry the new Rigid Bandsaws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this saw I do quite-a-bit of woodworking as a hobby and this saw is good value for its money. Yes things are a bit cheap on it but what do you want for $148.00. I've ripped and re-sawed 2X6 and 2X4 Pine, have milled 4 inch White birch logs with no problem. I've just completed a fence for resawing.

just bought this band saw , have been very happy with all my other Ryobi products, but this can't even seem to cut through a 3/16 " material without the machine stalling out , perhaps i set it up wrong , any thoughts please ?

Asked by: mace88
adjust your belt tensions . should be tighter and make sure your top belt guide is no more then 1/8 " above the material .let the saw cut as you slowly feed it till you see what the machine is capable of . i was able to cut 3 " solid oak with no problem and small radius too.

I received a response from Ryobi that the 9 inch bandsaw has a 2.5HP motor and i find that hard to believe. That is awful big for a 9 inch as bigger ones than that only have a 2HP motor, can you verify that please.

Asked by: Bill
The 9” band saw has an electric motor rated at 2.5 amps, and uses standard 120 volts, therefore the max HP of the motor is slightly less than 0.5 HP

How long is the blade? I'm sure it's not 9 inches long as reported by Ryobi when someone else asked this question.
