Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quits running I have used this mower for 1 1/2 years and was really quite satisfied with it. But last summer it would randomly quit running. It got to the point where you could not mow the whole lawn. It will always start up again when you press the start button again but then quits after a couple of seconds. I called Ryobi customer service they informed me that I would need to pay to ship it 300 KMS to the nearest repair shop. Very disappointed! If I could drop it off at the local Home Depot and they could ship it for me that would be not so bad. I guess I won’t be buying any more Ryobi products anymore and that’s sad because I have quite a few of their tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I bought this as a replacement for the 18v 16" unit I purchased a week prior that wouldn't cut my lawn even with 4x 4ah batteries. This one finished the back area the other mower couldn't and still had a full charge. I believe others have said it but the brushless motor runs smoother than the non brushless. This unit folds up and stands upright so storing is a breeze. And forget about complaining about the height adjustment, its so easy to do, no more of adjusting 1 wheel at a time, move the lever and the height is adjusted.

I was skeptical about battery life, performance, ease of use etc. I should have known better since we have other Ryobi Cordless tools that are all amazing. Great mower all the way around. Battery life is fantastic, no cord to pull for starting - just push a button. The one thing we were concerned about was the fact that almost all brands of cordless mowers require the bagger to be attached to run BUT this mower includes a mulching attachment - no bag in the way, no grass flying out onto the driveway etc. just perfect mulching. It is light even with the large battery installed. I really can't say anything bad about this mower.

I was hesitant to buy this mower with the range of reviews, mostly I was worried the battery wouldn’t be powerful enough for the size of my yard. I have a huge assortment of Ryobi tools so I went for it. I have to say, this mower is amazing! Not only does it have enough juice to do both the front and the back yard, it usually still has a bit left in the tank. This machine preforms as good as any Honda, Briggs & Stratton or any mower I’ve owned, only better since there is no fuel involved. It’s also ridiculously quiet for being so powerful. If you’re on the fence about buying one of these, just do it, you won’t be disappointed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stops working after a few seconds of use I took this mower out of the box today and was excited to use the new mower. Except that charging the batter took five hours, but that was the initial charge. But, once I was ready to go, the mower started and I would walk one foot before it stopped. This kept happening over and over. The manual reads that if it stops, the blade is set to low, so I set it to the maximum height. Still did not work. Then I got on the internet and found that this seems to be a common complaint with Ryobi mowers. There is a kill switch in the handle that stops the mower if the handle is not properly extended. It seems this switch is finicky and will cause the mower to stop even when the handle is extended. I tightened up all of the screws on the mower and that helped it to go 2 ft instead of 1. I found that when it died that if I collapsed and then extended the handel I might get 5 ft of mowing. Enough. This needs to go back because this is clearly a design flaw that is well known but unaddressed.

Currently it's in service, waiting for a controller module that Ryobi doesn't stock. It's been two weeks and this hasn't been resolved. I was going to wait until things get rectified before I posted this review, but at this point I cannot recommend this brand. If time is valuable to you, and having a working mower is a must then look elsewhere.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not built to last Worked great first year. Have a medium size lawn and was able to cut whole lawn on 1 charge. Second year the problems have started. Battery no longer lasts for entire lawn. Have to pull battery out and reseat it when it stalls. Handle sensors are starting to fail. If you move the handle the wrong way it stalls and you have to adjust handles to get it to restart. Will likely scrap it next year and buy another model. Disposable everything nowadays.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lawnmower but will it stand the test of time? This is a nice and light lawnmower that does a good job and I would recommend it to others. The battery power is sufficient to cut my decent sized in-town lawn several times on one charge. I notice that the RPMs modulate depending on how thick the grass is - pretty neat and a good way to stretch battery life. I haven't needed the front headlight yet but it's also a nice touch. Lots of safety features too. My only two comments are that 1. the lowest cut setting isn't as low as I would like, and 2. the machine is mostly plastic and I worry how well it will stand the test of time.

Does it come with the mulching plug? Coz mine didn't come with it and I can't mow my lawn without putting the bag in....

Yes it does. I haven’t used the bag once. Install the plug and make sure the handles are locked in place.

Do I always have to use the bag? Sometimes I just want to mulch, not bag it. Side discharge is not preferred.. Thank you

Side discharge, as they call it, is a accessory that you need to purchase after the fact. It actually connects to the back of the lawnmower and shoots grass to the side, so not a side discharge like we are used to. Hope that helps.

I used my mower for first time today. Works well but at times the motor appears to speed up for a few seconds then slow down again regardless of load. Any reason for this?

What is the battery life before it discharges, ie 30min cutting time? Average grass height.

I like to do my own Dethatching, can this mower handle it? I honestly don't care if it takes two days to do it. I just want to know if the Mower can handle it. I do have a standby if it can not.

 I’ve never tried to use it for dethatching myself, but the motor is powerful enough if you were to attach a dethatching blade and the battery lasts for at least 2 hours.

Yes, it bags and mulches...I am a senior women and it so easy to use...nogas no pull cords. And easy to adjust the cut heights.

Will this mower be good for a 10 and a 12 year old to push, height wise? They are not tall boys. I saw one comment saying the handle bars are high when mowing?

The handle has to be fully extended for the motor to engage. There are only two height adjustments resulting in bar height of 38 or 42 inches from the ground. The kids would have to be able to hold both the handle and the engine kill bar. The mower itself is very light and easy to manoeuvre. Never underestimate the ingenuity/tenacity of a 10/12 year old... especially if $$ is involved
