Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Was looking for a new gas weed eater and took a chance on this one. I really didn’t have high expectations and thought I’ll just bring it back if I don’t like it. Needles to say I love it! I couldn’t believe the power. I had some tall grass on the edge of my property over a foot tall and this weed eater took it down no problem. I really couldn’t be any happier with it. Battery lasted for the whole job and still had plenty to finish the rest of the yard. The battery did get hot that probably the only complaint I would have but gas engines get hot too. Ryobi probably could have put a plastic shield over the battery but other than that great product.

I am getting older and a recent hand injury has made it a challenge to start the 2-stroke Ryobi Expand-it power head. It is not fair to compare the power and speed of the 2-stroke to the 40 Volt battery. The 40 Volt battery is quieter and much easier to "start". The battery still had power left after I trimmed and edged my yard. Other reviews complained about the string feeder/loader breaking. I was able to put the old string trimmer on the 40 Volt. I have a new backup trimmer if the old one breaks. The 40 Volt is easier on my hand and better for the environment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly Powerful!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second battery powered string trimmer. My first was a Worx GT 20 volt and it was a bit weak. I am used to a gas powered trimmer, so I was missing the power. My gas powered Craftsman trimmer finally gave up, so I decided to give this battery powered trimmer a try. I am totally amazed at the cutting power of this trimmer. It actually cut better than the craftsman trimmer. The only thing this trimmer does not do that the gas trimmer did is make a lot of noise and fumes! It is nice just to pull the trigger and go without yanking on a cord and hoping the machine will start! I look forward to trying some of the attachments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More power than expected! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a small local business trying to evolve away from petroleum based garden/landscape equipmet. I purchased this model because it is attachment capable and uses battery power instead of gas. Batteries are much safer to me because I don’t have to carry gasoline around in my truck, and it’s cleaner for the environment. It is more powerful than I expected, and quiet so it cuts out noise pollution as well. Thus far I am more than satisfied, and would recommend these products for any small business trying to “clean up its act”. Thank you for making this available at a reasonable cost!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty - Better than my gas trimmer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased to replace my gas Ryobi trimmer. Chose this model as it accepts the attachments from the gas trimmer. How nice it is to pop the battery on and go. No mixing, storing...and occasionally spilling fuel. No more pulling the starter cord dozens of times to get it running. I’m replacing all my gas-powered yard power tools with battery-powered tools. As well as this trimmer and my Ryobi self-propelled mower work, I’m picking up the Ryobi battery powered leave blower this weekend. This trimmer has the power to get the job done, no more messing with fuel, no more pulling that starter cord!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm a Believer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So for my entire life I was always told, "Gas is way better." After my 2-cycle trimmer died after less than three years, on top of being tired of mixing gas and oil, pull starts, and gummed carburetors, I made the leap and bought this Ryobi model. I'm definitely impressed. The power in this is better and more reliable than my old gas trimmer, with the half the weight and a third of the noise. Only thing I wish is battery was a little longer, but I'm able to get through my suburban lawn with 1/3 of the battery left. I was able to keep all my attachments as well from the old trimmer as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 40V Battery String Trimmer Worth It! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We wanted to stay away from gas if possible for our yard maintenance and this 40V trimmer is part of a complete electric yard maintenance system by Ryobi. The yard trimmer was extremely easy to get going. The power is strong and enough for most weekend warriors. The battery easily lasted through trimming my front yard and is powerful enough to take down some aggressive weeds. Replacing and adjusting the string is easy enough but I recommend tracking down a video on youtube if your not sure how to change it the first time. Next we are getting the 40V lawn mower and then the chainsaw to have more batteries if needed. So far not an issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The worst Ryobi product I've owned. I consider myself an Ryobi fan boy. I own a Handyman Services Business and I use only Ryobi brand tools in my business. Matter of fact I am still using first generation of tools. I was excited to get the 40V and upgrade feom 18v. But after 30 minutes the battery died I have a 1/5 acre lot with a big house on it. Simple grass to cut simple weededing. However we still have ro finish with the 18v weedeater and the wife never uses the 40V as she said it's a waste of time with the battery going dead. We have the 4ah battery and the 18v 3ah out does this. Now today is bad. I get started weededing some grass to get my arm burnt as the unit has caught on fire. This is I haven't even got a year out of it I think. I bought it last year and now it's shot.

I read a review that the battery is right where the forearm rests and it makes the forearm hot. Is that true? Is the other power head better that looks like it has the battery in front of the forearm and not behind it?
Asked by: nascarbumb
I had answered this question but didn't mean to Type that the "battery" got hot enough to burn -it is the motor head which gets so hot it burns your arm! Sorry for the confusion.

Everytime pull 6 inches on either side and use it and watch the steing get shorter. Should it not be self feeding? Once it comw to 2-3 inches, I have to manually pull more from the spindle. What am I doing wrong?
