Rated 5 out of 5 by from A second battery will be a good plan Got tired with trying to get my chainsaws to start each season so picked this up. We had 6 large (~14”) trees taken down by arborists and needed to cut these up for firewood and to feed into a chipper. Found one battery charge could do 7 cuts before stopping. I was not in a rush but I would think the first thing to get would be another battery. The only downside is the cost of those at half the cost of the saw! Already had the chain sharpened once and it cuts again excellently. The only downside is the lack of a case. I was thinking I would take one of my old gas ones but this saw is longer than either of those so a difference case is needed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from GREAT REVIEWS !! THIS A REVIEW ABOUT REVIEWS AND THE RYOBI CHAINSAW. I don't know if I'm the only person that reads reviews. I believe a lot of us do. My review(or this one mean) will never likely see the light of day in my opinion. If it does kudos to H.D. So never mind the Ryobi Chainsaw, because I really don't know what people really think about it in the reviews in the case that many of the reviews are so called collected as a promotion to customers. I'll give you a deal on a product for a good review in other words is the way I feel in my opinion when I read the review. I'll stick with products that have positive 5 star reviews not swayed by a promotion when sold or given to a customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs beyond expectations As a multi Stihl tool user my review -Performed beyond my expectations for bucking larger trees and stumps. Cuts smooth and fast with good HP. Battery life is great with 6 and 7.5 Ahr batteries. Is no light weight though with the battery attached about the same weight as a comparable standard gas machine. But for 300.00 for the tool it is well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad a saw! I bought it as a once in a while saw for my firewood business and found it to be quite impressive compared to the other 2 professional gas saws I have. It does leak chain bar oil as others have stated but I just store it with bar pointed up and no issue. Battery is lacking I'd say but I bought it to make the odd cut without needing to spending 10 minutes mixing gas and getting the big 24" saw ready to make 5 cuts. So it's perfect for that.

No oil leakage as others complained. However the battery life is disappointing. From a full charge, I was only able to square 3 sides of a log about 12" wide cuts by 20" long. Had to use the second battery to finish the job...

This is great for me, easy to start, easy to maintain. Battery life is good though I do have another battery for my electric lawnmower that I use to get extra cutting time. Really enjoy this piece of equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very capable. Very capable. Plenty of power. Took down, chunked and cleaned up two large trees with a single charge on a 6amp hour battery. Light. Easy to operate. For a homeowner only needing a chainsaw here and there I can't imagine missing a gas powered tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with this chain saw...but... The chain saw is quite good. Not too heavy and cuts well. My only issue is the battery life is fairly short.I have a second product so I can share batteries when I have a large tree to cut. It just forces you to plan your work.

The version of this with the battery included uses a 40V 4ah. Will it work with a 40V 2ah? that's the one that came with my hedge trimmer and I don't want more batteries if I don't need them. Thanks.

I’m contemplating purchasing a Ryobi 16 in battery chainsaw powered by a 40 volt 4 Ah battery. I have a Ryobi  lawn mower that uses a 40 volt 5 Ah battery.  Can I interchange the 4 Ah and the 5 Ah batteries in either the chainsaw or the lawnmower?

We are considering buying the Ryobi 16” 40V chainsaw. Can we use it to cut a hole in the lake ice in order to get water? Or will it damage the battery? Thanks, Cori

Hi -Cori, Thanks for reaching out to us. The 16" 40V Chainsaw is a great tool that helps with several jobs around the house. Ideally this saw would be best suited for cutting limbs and wood outside but can be used for other application such as cutting ice. You will want to let the saw do its work without forcing it too much. Forcing it can cause the saw to jam and can break the bar/chain. In regards to battery protection, you will want to keep the battery and that side of this tool away from the water as it can easily be damaged. For more information please contact 1-800-860-4050. If this item and the 18" HP version share the same motor and controller, what is different about the 18" version that makes it "HP"? (besides the bar size)
