Rated 5 out of 5 by from This worked great for my driveway and sidewalk. The only issue I had was that it shoots the snow in a straight direction, so when I did my sidewalk, I curved it all off to side to the street. If there is an attachment to throw the snow in a certain direction that would be great. Other than that, it worked great and cleared 1 ft of snow easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great Got 5" of wet snow yesterday and my replacement unit with the new improved on/off switch worked great! This thing actually performed better than I expected. Unit threw heavy/wet snow without issue and was easy on the battery. Additionally, thanks to Ryobi Customer Service for their attention to the issue I was experiencing with my original unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved My Back! Works on all types of snow [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this snow shovel in late November 2022. Used it throughout the winter (we're now in mid March 2023): - wet, heavy snow - slush - dry fluffy snow - medium/average type snow - compacted snowbanks left by city snow plows - used it on 3-4 cm and up to 75cm packed snow banks. Here is the good: + Handled all types of snow very well + Much easier than shovelling manually : Average type snow just gets thrown forward and out of the way. + For the super compacted heavy snowbanks left by city plows, I once got a 75cm tall snowbank I had to clear. Had I done it manually, I would have been completely drained and sore. With this shovel, though, it was much, much easier: I lifted the shovel with both hands, and little by little skimmed the snow banks: first by running it along the top of the snow banks or the sides, and then by slowly dropping the shovel vertically in the middle of the snow banks as far down as it could go. I was done in a couple of minutes. In the past, it used to take me from half to one hour and a massive amount of effort. I was able to do it this year in less than 5 minutes with minimal effort. Bring it on, city plows! I no longer fear you! + Easily handles up to 30cm of lighter fluffier stuff and has no issue with 15cm of heavy wet snow + Takes less space than a dedicated snow blower: I simply can’t justify having a snowblower sitting in the garage doing nothing for 9 months; this shovel is so small, I can put it away in a corner or hang it on a wall. + Throws snow far enough: wet snow doesn’t fly as far as the dry powdery stuff, but it still throws it farther than I could with a manual shovel and more importantly : saves my back! Auger is still in perfect shape even though I hit icy chunks and caught cedar tree branches with the auger + Runtime (4 AH battery) is very good: I have a 5-car driveway (5 cars wide, 1 car deep) and a small walkway to clear. I only ran out of battery a single time : when I got 32cm of heavy wet snow, I was almost done and I had no more power left (not much of an issue in my case: took the battery from the lawnmower and finished the snow). + On 15-20cm snow, I usually finish the 5-car driveway and walkway with 1 to 2 bars left on the battery; I even have enough to do some of the sidewalk since the city doesn't plow that + The little wheels are very helpful to maneuver the shovel The less good: - No direction control: the auger propels the snow forward only. So you have to plan where and how you’re throwing it - It is relatively heavy at approximately 10kg (with 4AH battery). An average person should have no issue lifting it occasionally if needed, but someone of less than average strength might struggle. Most of the time this is not an issue: the shovel is on the ground; you don’t need to lift it and the weight ensures that it gets all the way to the ground. Where it could become an issue is if you get more than 30cm of snow. One way would be to lift the shovel with both hands and skim the top half of the snow then the bottom half. That’s how I had to do the 75cm packed snowbanks the city plows left me. Depending on your strength and stamina, this could be an issue. Another way to deal with a lot of snow, is to do half passes along the edge of the snow. And a third way would be to ram the shovel back and forth in the snow like a vacuum cleaner. The Could Be Good Or Bad: - Doesn’t throw the snow super far : other models from competitors throw it much further out. The question is: do you really need it to throw snow all the way across the street or halfway into the neighbours' yard? If you live in a standard urban or suburban setting with neighbours, this Ryobi shovel throws the snow far enough to clear your driveway or walkway, but not so far that you end up in a fight with the neighbours. The amazing: + I had an issue at the beginning. Although it didn’t completely prevent me from using the shovel, Ryobi support was amazing! They got it all sorted out. I’ve rarely seen customer support this good. This summer I'll be upgrading some of my other equipment, and because of the incredible customer service, Ryobi tools will be my first choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Shoveling Easy So I had been looking at these electric power shovels for several years now. I had watched some Youtube videos, shopped online and after awhile I decided to give the Ryobi a shot. I also own some other Ryobi yard tools so I already had the batteries and thought this might be worth trying. We had our first snow up in Boston earlier this year. It wasn't much, a few inches, but I gave the machine a try. Works beautifully. I have a large driveway and this won't replace my snowblower, but it will absolutely help out on the walkways, the decks and even the driveway from time to time. I loved having the wheels at the back to balance, pushes easily and consistently through the snow. Overall just another winner from Ryobi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, even with one hand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this for mother in law who is 75, and she is able to use it because of the wheel on the back, unlike the original electric shovel I use. This one I am also able to easily use with one hand if needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nothing fancy but gets it done. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] works well , just had our 1st snow and it cut through 4 inch's wet snow. However, there are 2 issues. The first is the trigger switch is not working all the time. I have to hold straight up to get it to work sometimes. can't get it to work in the use position. The second you can't adjust the direction of the Shute. That is just the way it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent after I fixed the trigger handle [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had this little guy delivers on Dec. 15th and have had a 6" dump and a 12" dump of snow since then. It worked great after I fixed it. The issue I had was that the trigger would intermittently work. I was considering returning it but when I checked, they were out of stock and I wasn't running the risk of shoveling snow with a shovel. I disassembled the handle and noticed that when the trigger handle is pulled, it's supposed to push up against a micro switch which then turns on the motor. Well either the handle was designed/molded to short or the micro switch wasn't long enough. To remedy the issue, I had some 1/16" Teflon strip with an adhesive back that I put over the curved section of the handle that actuates the switch. It was just enough thickness to consistently actuate the micro switch. Put all the torx screws back in and I was good to go. I am impressed as to what this thing can do. It flings powder snow quite far, not sure as to heavy wet snow as of this writing. I managed to clear out a 2 car driveway, about 60' of sidewalk, and about 6' into the road on a 5ah battery with 6" of powdered snow. When the 12" dump came this little guy also performed but the technique had to be adjusted cuz 12" is a bit much for this little guy to handle at once but in overlapping sections it worked. I'm not gonna say it was as fast as clearing the 6"dump but at least I didn't have to do any manual labour. I did go through the full 5ah battery and half of a 4ah on the 12" dump. Living in the Vancouver area we don't usually see a lot of snow so I figured this was the right tool for me. I think the neighbors were a little envious of this great tool.

I am interested in purchasing a snow shovel but would like to know would a unit with wheels be easier to use than one without? One of the reviews mentioned the wheels jamming up ... I am looking for something lightweight but that does the job.

Asked by: Lynd
Hi Lynd, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 40V Cordless 12-inch Wheeled Snow Shovel (Tool-Only). In general a unit with wheels is easier to use and helps reduce user fatigue but, there may be some instances where it could be easier to use without wheels. Also keep in mind, our smaller snow shovel (10-inch) does not have wheels whereas our larger one (12-inch) does. For further information, please contact RYOBI Customer Support at 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.
