After reading all the good reviews on this 18 inch brushless Ryobi model, I took a chance it would work for me. I just used it for the first time on about 2-3 inches of fluffy snow and it worked great. I spent about 45 minutes doing the snow and the battery never ran out. A big plus is that it is very quiet and is so easy to navigate. I have a large, gas-powered blower for the heavier snow, but wanted a smaller, easy-to-operate one for the smaller and lighter jobs. So far, so good.

My biggest complaint is that if you hit a bump in the sidewalk or in your driveway, it knocks the battery out of position and I have to stop, take out the battery, and put it back in. I was able to clear over 400' of sidewalk on one full battery with under 3" of snow. More than that and I needed to use a second battery. I have other Ryobi tools I have plenty of batteries. It doesn't shoot the snow as far as I would like and adjusting the shoot is cumbersome. But it is an affordable, usable option for people like me who have a back injury and can't shovel that much snow.I'd recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little machine In Nova Scotia, has worked great in the heaviest snowfalls this winter. 6ah battery is sufficient to complete my 70x15' driveway with up to about 10cm snow. Larger amounts or really wet snow I get about 75% done. Planning to get the Ryobi lawnmower with 6ah battery so that I have two batteries for the mower in summer and two for the blower in winter. Only gripe is that the battery cover has a brittle hinge. Broke off in the cold with a slight amount of pressure, so I've been taping the battery cover on with painters tape. Replacement is like $15 online, but it's still gonna be brittle. Not the end of the world.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works. Kinda.. Got this unit in haste during a heavy snow fall. It can zip thru a foot of snow without bogging down. Which isn't bad, and the only reason I gave it 3 stars. It does work ok. But there's more negative than positive on this one. My biggest complaint. The battery life is grossly over exaggerated!! I have a 2 car driveway, and it died half way through on a full charge. But that's not all. The other issue I had was blow by. Both myself, and the machine were covered in powdery snow that it puked out of every crack within the first 30 seconds of use. It blows it everywhere! I blame the cheaply designed chute. It's also clumsy to use, and feels awkward. Plus the whole machine is about 90% plastic, and would most likely break in really cold weather. I'm very disappointed for the price. In my personal opinion, it's not worth it..

The battery that came with it died this past summer in a lawnmower and would not take a charge (same model batteries). Home Depot referred me to Ryobi customer assistance, which is abysmal. I did not have time to wait for 2 hrs on hold with the battery and tool ready. This winter, used the blower once, no issues, then next two times, right away, two lights would come on and flash, and machine would not power back on. This happened with freshly charged, warm batteries. Went online to review warranty but the site seems to have lost my two registered products. Very frustrated. Will not be buying Ryobi again.

We only had about an inch and a half but I had some ice underneath it. This machine scraped it down to the paved driveway, and believe me that stuff was heavy ! It even went through 10 inch snow that the plow had left behind, but I had to move the machine back and forth a little bit to keep it from stalling. Then I picked it up and carried it onto a deck that was 8 ft above the ground... It cleaned the deck off to the wood! Overall I am extremely pleased with the performance of this battery operated snowblower. It could use a place for a spare battery only because the extra six amp battery won't fit in my pocket. LOL !!!

And then we got dumped on with snow. Let me tell you, this thing did way more than expected. It easily went through powdery snow. We had snow up to our mid thigh and this thing went through it. It didn't do our entire 4 car drive in one charge, but it did get over 80% of it and the snow was mid-thigh. Easy to use and sets up in a few minutes. Attached is a photo of what it went through in one charge. It did this entire driveway with two cars parked on it no problem.

I found this snowblower to be perfect for my needs as it is easy to handle, charges fast and does not take up a large space in my garage! It is perfect for snow blowing the snow we get in Manitoba and glides easily through freshly fallen snow drifts! It blows the snow far into the middle of my lawn so I never need to go over an area twice to move snow. It holds a charge long enough to clear my 700sq foot back patio as well as my driveway several times over! I am extremely happy with it and would definitely recommend it! It is entirely affordable and exactly what I needed! Super easy to use and perfect for the job!

There is no clear answer for this. Usage depends on how big the area is, depth of snow to be removed and how light or wet the snow is. For smaller driveways or smaller areas, the one battery should be fine but it is always good to have a second battery available.

My concern is with cold temperatures affecting the battery, and also causing the plastic to become brittle and break.  What temps has this machine been tested in?  We are in Central Alberta, Canada.

Live just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba (very cold winters). I purchased this item to clean snow off a large deck across the rear of my house (regular snow blower too heavy for on deck) had a similar sized plug in model but found dragging around a half frozen electric cord a pain. Used all of last winter without issue. Will go through a 1 to 1 1/2ft. of snow as long as it's not wet. Have 2 extra batteries from Ryobi lawn mower so charged batteries not an issue. For smaller jobs, not doing your whole driveway

Is the 18"- 40v snowblower made for cold weather? I tried one at -30C or -22F and the auger will not turn and the battery was fully charged. I brought it into a warm place and after 1/2 hour the auger worked. Is this expected?
