Rated 5 out of 5 by from very powerful and long lasting battery I bought this to replace a temperamental 2 stroke gas trimmer and man what an improvement! I have a 2 acre property with many trees as well as brush surrounding the perimeter. I am able to trim around all my trees etc. on one charge. The brush cutter head is also very impressive I cut through some thick brush and it just wouldn't quit. Over an hour of usage no problem. This has way more power and works so much nicer than any gas trimmer I have used. No vibrations like the gas models, and way quieter. It is about the same weight as a gas trimmer but that's due to the 40v battery which is well worth the trade off for the 1 hour run time. Highly recommended

I have had it 3 weeks now. Why would any homeowner buy gas? This thing rocks. It has plenty of power. I used it in high first time. Mistake: had to get the hose out and wash the grass of the siding. It was up to the soffits. The battery may be an issue for a commercial user, but not for a homeowner. I have trimmed my yard 3 times and attached the TrimmerPlus Tiller (purchased separate) and tilled my front flower beds,and I still have 2 of 4 bars on the first battery charge. I could not believe how well the tiller worked.

Can't go wrong with brushless. I finished trimming edges in less than half the time I usually take with my old electric trimmer. Also, it was free! Cons: gets top heavy with the 40V 6A battery; trying to use it with one hand get tiresome, but beyond me trying to be He-Man, a great yard tool

However my main complaint is getting parts and warranty, warranty not worth the paper it's written on if you can't find anyplace to get warranty service or parts near by. Online parts ordering goes to USA site even though I start off on Ryobi.ca site. Can't get parts breakdown for this model, I only need to replace the string cut-off blade which broke but good luck finding what part number I need! There are 1000 cut-off blades listed, most discontinued. I get no answer at customer service, on hold for over a half hour. Home Depot itself does not offer support, have to go to Ryobi.

Can complete my 3/4 acre tree’d and fenced lot switching between high and low settings on the included 4Ah battery but bought a 6Ah and only use half of it for the same work. Two cons I have is the delay on the trigger before the unit powers and the attachment will sometimes spin and rotate sideways out of the locked position. Feel like I am tightening it plenty but happens occasionally

I've been a big fan of the 18v series for many years and find them very reliable. When I opened the box for the 40v trimmer, I acted surprised and happy, but underneath thought what am I going to do with this? I have two gas powered Stihl trimmers already. It's now two months later and the gas trimmers haven't been started all summer. I have a large yard with many trees and beds to trim around, and this Ryobi product is the star of the show! No priming, no pull cords, no gas to mix, no fumes and so much quieter. Tons of power, long lasting battery and relatively quick to charge. I've since purchased the edger, tiller, and blower from the series. They all work great and I'm sold on the 40v series.

Can the Ryobi Expand-it 8" Brush Cutter Trimmer Attachment (RYBRC77) be used with the 40V HP Carbon Fibre String Trimmer (RY40290VNM)?  I just bought the brush cutter, but the manual for the Carbon Fibre String Trimmer does not list the Brush Cutter.

I live on the water which can get quite weedy along the shore. Can this trimmer be used on/in and around the water?

Probably, the working end of the trimmer can get wet as it is only gearing and nothing electrical. That said, if you get the motor or battery wet the tool is likely done for good. If you are careful, this would be the tool to use.

Can i use 095 or thicker line on this tool? And what is the run time with a 6ah battery?

I have not tried a thicker line but the suppied line cuts most everything I have tried including woody shubs ans suckers. It also last a long time while edging grass along a driveway and sidewalk. I get at least three or four edging days around the house, possibly 3+ hours of use at variable speeds.

I will be buying a Ryobi 40v lawnmower and a 40V weed trimmer. I feel I need a bare tool only for the trimmer but the trimmer must have the Reel Easy head. What is my most economical purchase for this combination of mower and trimmer?

Last year, I purchased both the mower and trimmer, and I am very happy with them. The mower and weed trimmers are just as powerful as gas versions, and they are economical. The batteries last long enough too. As for the trimmer's head, I don't know what it's called, but it does feed easily. I hope that this answers your question.
