These batteries carry around twice the capacity for a disproportionately small cost increase - a 8% increase in price for a 20% increase in capacity. The 5.0 amp-hour is a no-brainer. And, because it holds more power, you charge less often, extending the lifecycle. You need not worry about a higher-capacity battery being incompatible or "too powerful" for smaller tools. You can have all the amp hours you want (and the more the better). All Ryobi 40-volt tools and batteries are completely interchangeable. The only difference is how much power they can hold on a charge.

One battery suddenly died last summer, would not accept a charge (google it, lots of videos and reviews including dismantling the battery trying to get it to function). Bought a brand new 4ah 40V battery 9 months ago, charged it 3-4 times, now it will not charge. Called Ryobi today, 3 year warranty on battery that came with a tool set (if you have a receipt!), one year on batteries bought individually (again if you have a receipt!). Keep your receipts or you will be very sorry with the Ryobi 40v system! Ryobi needs to stop making $120 paperweights, and work on their engineering/quality control.

Talk to Ryobi customer service they say it’s still within the parameters and will not send a replacement. Used to be able to mow my front and back yard on a charge. Now I’m not even able to finish my front. My front yard is not big. I understand battery life decreases over time but only being a year old that’s way to much life lost.

I have a huge backyard, and this lawn mower and 40V lithium ION battery did not let me down like my other lawnmower did. By it being operated by not only a battery but a powerful long lasting battery that got me through my huge backyard without running out of power and some more battery time left to do my next door neighbors yard as well. I love love love my powerful battery lawnmower. I recommended this product to several of my neighbors and they said they would definitely purchase this product.

We ordered this battery as an additional battery to the original one that came with our weed trimmer. The battery we received we charged fully as soon as we received it and used it once and discharged it fully and then it would not charge again, said it was defective. So we had to order another battery to replace the defective one and so far this one seems to be working fine, as it is charging for a second and third time, etc. That is the reason for the 3 stars only. Run time seems to be about 30 minutes, give or take, with the weed trimmer, depending on the type of weeds, etc. We have only had it for 2-1/2 weeks so far, so time will tell.

I have been using Ryobi tools for over 5 years now and that’s a lot of lawn care and this battery has stood up to the test. This battery fully charged will allow me to cut grass uninterrupted for over an hour which completes my entire yard. Recommend for anyone who wants to get rid of those gas cans and trips to the gas station. Battery operated equipment ready when I am ready. In addition Ryobi stands behind their 3 year guarantee. Experience with this battery, equipment, and the company Ryobi is proof enough for me to make this positive review.

Didn’t expect it, but I was quickly notified from customer service, Alex Hooper. He quickly ensured that I received a replacement. Very prompt. I own and run a small horse farm that requires constant upkeep. I have used Ryobi 18 volt hand tools and 40 volt blowers and weed wackers. From weed whacking along the fence line to putting up up metal buildings they haven’t let me down yet. Their impact driver could use a little bit more rugged design but I would gladly be a tested for any of their tools. Great job

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have dozens of Palo Verde & Mesquite tress on my property of which have grown so tall that I use and extended ladder to reach. This little but not so weak pole saw did the trick in one day of cutting. I cut over 20 tress, 80 plus branches 2- 12 inch thick. Its angle is designed leverages its chain to hug the the branch cutting it with hardly any effort, amazing! One charge on the battery. It cost more to have the gardeners pick up the branches (two days) than the saw cost me. One of my best purchase of Ryobi yet! ty

why are the replacement batteries for Ryobi 40VLithium 4Ah weed eater so high? its cheaper to buy a whole new weed eater. my battery only lasted one year.

How can you determine the age of the battery for warranty

For warranty purposes, your receipt should verify when you purchased it. You can determine its age by looking at the serial number on the bottom of all Ryobi batteries and tools . It starts with 2 capital letters. The first 2 numbers after those letters are the year, and the next 2 numbers are which week of that year the battery/tool was produced. On a 40V 5ah battery I have, those numbers are 1932, meaning that battery was made the 32nd week of 2019.

they are available through Home Depot on line sales only. You can get a 5AH there also but it takes me about 20 minutes to mow my 1/3 acre lot and I can get two out of a single charge.

Are the 4ah and 6ah 40v batteries interchangeable in tools?

I have the 14" chainsaw and a lawnmower and I am hoping to use the 4ah as a backup battery for the lawnmower.

I don't know what the rep. is talking about because the compartment in the 2018 ryobi 20 inch lawnmower will not accept a 40 volt 6AH battery but will accept a 4 and 5. The 6 is too thick and won't fit into the slot.

Hi I have a Ryobi auger with a 40 V lithium 4ah battery. I was wondering if the battery has to be completely dead before recharging? I know I?ll be able to recharge it but will it lessen the batteries run time while using the auger If charged early?

I have two batteries for my mower. I run one until the power runs out. Than I use my other one. Now when I had 1 battery i did charge after every use and that has only about half life on it. But I have had that battery for 5 years . It's much better if you have two.
