Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost great! I got to use extensively this generator on a camping trip, in relatively cold weather, for five days. Lowest temperature was -1C. Found some very quiet 200 W electric heaters and used two of them to heat the tent at night. So, the load was 400 W plus some minor use for an LED lamp and two phone chargers - in total probably not even 450 W. Generator placed in the woods - as far as the extension cord allowed (to reduce noise). I think I had a 50 ft outdoor rated cord. [As a note, if you plan to use the generator outdoors, plan for some good protection in case of rain. Generator MUST stay dry. I had a shower tent - which also further helped with noise reduction - and I'm so glad I did, as it was raining and windy. A big plastic crate will work also, with some holes well placed for ventilation and propane hose.] It would also be a good idea to have a small bottle of engine oil with you on long trips, because if the oil pressure drops, the generator will stop working. The generator did everything it was expected to do... the fuel (propane) ...not so much... The good: - It is not too noisy, even with maximum load (I tested at home). - It has very good fuel consumption. It runs for 3.5 hours on a 1 lb propane bottle, with a 200 W load. It sucks about half of a 20 lbs propane tank in 12 hours of continuous running with a 450 W load. - It is quite light and easy to move around. - It doesn't stink and make the mess that a gasoline or diesel generator would make, no need to empty the fuel tank for longer storage (but you're supposed to empty the engine oil before storing for longer time). - A bigger propane tank will fuel your portable BBQ, generator, propane heater for several days - all you need is a Y splitter to run two appliances at a time. The not-so-good: - It takes a few pulls to start, especially when cold. - It does not work with dirty propane - even if you install a filter on the hose - which I did. It will not start at all, or - if it starts - it will stop in 5, or 10 or 15 seconds or in a minute or two - depending how dirty the propane is and then you'd have to pull that string a couple dozen times to restart... and then it will stop again. It works like a charm with 1 lb Coleman propane bottles... but those are expensive and you'd have to change them often. - If using the 1 lb propane bottles in cold temperatures HAVE SOME GLOVES for when you need to replace the bottle, because it will be encased a solid crust of ice (seriously! I couldn't take pictures because it was at night and it was raining, but without leather work gloves would've been "a challenge" - to say the least - to change the propane bottle!) A couple of days ago it was a blackout in my neighbourhood and I wanted to use it to power my modem and router. Same story - it would not work with the last 1/4 that's left in a 20 lb propane tank (probably lots of impurities). It worked just fine again on a 1 lb Coleman propane bottle (which kept the Internet in my house going and saved the generator from a quick return...)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Efficient Battery Topper I bought this specifically to use as a battery topper for my Alto trailer. While i can mostly keep the battery topped with solar, this generator does a superb job when too cloudy or rainy to generate enough solar. It is relatively quiet and has no odour. The great thing about the propane source is that you are not dealing with gasoline for storage and transportation. You can bleed all the propane from the unit and then transport it devoid of a fuel source. At 700 Watts constant running power, you need to check carefully for any appliances you may want to use with this. Started right up at -13 C recently. Feels light to manage when moving it

Does this generator have enough power to provide backup for a sump pump?

Asked by: Hattori
Hi Hattori, You would need to compare the watts and amp requirements of the sump pump to the output of the inverter. This being the smaller inverter will probably not work well with most sump pumps as they would need more watts and amps than this inverter will produce. Thank you!

I'm thinking of getting this for my great-uncle who lives with us and needs oxygen. We had a power-outage for a few minutes the other day, and his oxygen machine cut out. Would this generator be good to have as a back-up if this happens again?

Asked by: Beccajoe
Hi Beccajoe, I can't answer without knowing the details of the machine you are using . Please see the user manual, it should answer your question. https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/85/85c8a40a-49d3-41af-a685-f2be0da86d4f.pdf

Hi Ramor, It won't charge your RV battery, you would need an external charger.
