Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the smartest tools available [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ryobi Wood door trimmer is a quick and easy solution to an annoying door that sticks. We had that problem in a bathroom caused by humidity changes. I've always has trouble trimming doors, even after taking the door off. The Ryobi Wood Door Trimmers puts an end to chisels and planers. This handy dandy tool attaches to your drill allowing you to skim a little or as much as you need off the door. It works on standard 3/4" and 3/8" doors. It removes up to 1/32" per pass. And most of all, you won't have to remove the door. It worked great and solved the problem. Brilliant job Ryobi. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use door trimmer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sometimes there's a tool that makes things so much easier, one wonders why they kept trying to make do with other tools instead. This is one of those tools. Trying to keep a regular plane level while trimming material off a door... or trying to avoid digging in with a belt-sander will make one truly appreciate the simplicity of this drill-powered trimmer. Just set the thickness to match the door, chuck the cutter into a power-drill, and have at it. Very easy to regulate the amount of cut, and it leaves an easily finished surface behind. A worthwhile investment even if it only prevents the ruining of a single door!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ryobi Door Trimmer is great little tool. We live on expansive adobe and hillside. Depending upon the time of year, our doors jam due to the shifting land. Over the years I have removed the doors to plane or file the door's edges. I've tried the trimer two times and it was easy. I was impressed that it trimmed the plywood doors in the garage. I was expecting the layers to splintered. I will still need to remove some doors for access but the rest is a breeze. Perhaps in the future Ryobi can come up with an adjustable width for non-standard doors.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sticking doors are one of the tasks that many of us ignore because of the perception of difficulty of fixing the issue. The Ryobi door trimmer is an excellent answer to this problem. I was able to correct the issues with two doors within fifteen minutes including the sanding of the roughness left after use of this trimmer. The trimmer will not go all the way to the floor while the door is hanging. If the door sticks at the bottom you may need to remove the door from the hinges.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lifesaver- practice first though This is such a blessing. We've rehung doors around our house with new hardware. They were snug to begin with, and several are now slightly off and will not close. This allowed me to trim the problem area so they would. My one negative would be the learning curve. It takes a minute to figure out how to move it & apply pressure, so you get some noticeable divots as you go. :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever device [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The RYOBI Wood Door Trimmer is the perfect solution for fixing sticking doors in a hurry. If longer hinge anchors won't cure it, then this should be your go-to. This clever device acts like n electric hand planer but requires only a standard drill, to shave off excess material along the edge of the door. It uses a captive multi-flute edge mill to remove material within the jaws with each pass. The tool can be adjusted to work on 1-3/4 in. & 1-3/8 in. size doors. This tool makes a sticking door an easy fix if the standard fixes fail you. Keep in mind though, that once material is gone, it's gone. If you do re-anchor the door later, you will now have a gap where you shaved material off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy and easy to use [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The RYOBI Wood Door Trimmer is a great solution if you're hanging doors, or if your current doors stick. The trimmer uses a standard drill with a 3/8” diameter chuck and takes off about 1/32 inch with each pass. With this tool, the doors can be trimmed without taking the door off the hinges. Like any new tool, it takes a little practice to get it to move smoothly and apply the correct pressure. It fits on wood doors from 1 3/8 inch to 1 ¾ inch. The Trimmer is compact and fits easily in your hand. If your door sticks close to the bottom of the door, the door may have to be removed to trim it because the trimming part of this tool is in the middle leaving a margin of more than an inch. I also found that the surface after trimming is rough and could use a quick sanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from door trimmer/shaver [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice little idea to trim down door edges. Has a shaver bit installed and you hook up a drill to the 3/8 inch shaft. as you PUSH away with right hand you operate the drill at full speed and go along the door. It trims one 32nd off with each pass, so nice tool to slowly shave a door down and check for fit after each pass. The drill shaft is round so need to use in a drill with a chuck. It does work but I would suggest practice first on a junk board as I did to get the right feel of moving along the door jamb or edge.

Will this wirk for hollow doors. Thank you. Darlene

Asked by: Ryobi door trimmer
Yes it will. You must be careful not to go too deep, but most hollow core doors have a frame that should be thick enough. This trimmer is meant for minor trimming and works very well.

Can this tool be used to cut a mortis for a hing on a new door?

Asked by: Timm
No, I don't see how it would help with that. It is simply a tool that uses a drill to power a plane. Works well for that, but not to notch out a mortise. It wouldn't give you a sharp edge.

I used my trimmer for the top of my door and it worked beautifully. I have solid-core wood doors. Good luck with your project.

Can you use this on an MDF door?

Asked by: Shane
I don’t know why not. It works by forcing a rotating drill bit against the surface/edge and gradually grinding the material away. I would think as long as the MDF door is no bigger than what the tool can accommodate, it’d grind  it down just fine.
