I put in 1/2 of the sack in a 5 gallon bucket to mix. It setup within 2 minutes. This did not give me enough time to thoroughly mix that amount, nor apply. Just as an experiment, I mixed enough for 1/4 of a 1 gallon container. That setup in less than 3 minutes. I wasted $26.00 + tax. I did not read any instructions, beware alarms, regarding work time.

I purchased 30 of the 40# bags of Sakrete Flo-Coat Concrete Resurfacer, along with 15 boxes of the Sakrete Terracotta Cement Color Mix to resurface our 1,000 sqft concrete driveway with color. The weather was 72 F, partly cloudy. The surface had been powerwashed the day prior with 3100 psi Generac, a crack was filled in using Sakrete Crack Filler, and all debris was removed prior to applying. My husband and a hired friend mixed the colorant with 3.5 qt. water into a 5 gal. bucket, then attempted to mix in the product using a drill and heavy duty paddle mixer. The product was unable to be poured with adding more water. After ruining 2 buckets (with hardened product) and burning up a good drill, they were able to achieve a good flowable mix. Once poured onto slab (wetted first), however, the product literally thickened within minutes to point that it couldn't be moved to the proper thickness with a squeegee, brush or even a trowel. They attempted to repeat the same process, adding more water to make the mix more soupier, however the product would not spread in a consistent manner. Now I have 2 slabs at the end of my driveway covered in what looks like a clay pot hit-n-run massacre, and it is hideous! Save your money and your back - don't buy this product.

This produce is inconsistent in color. i mixed 60 batches exactly as directed on Sakrete data sheet. and i ended up with 60 shades of grey. Other comments. I used a gauge rake to achieve the 3/16" thickness that I desired. I have registered a complaint with Home Depot. also some of the bags had pea gravel in them, I found a half inch diameter rock in one mix. i found several bags to have hard round balls of the product that had to be smashed with a hammer to break. the worse part is that my entire driveway is now striped several different shades of gray. i thought after a few weeks, that it would all cure the same color, i was wrong. This stuff sets up in 15 minutes. in the data sheet, it says "Air, mix and substrate temp should be between 50 degree and 90 degrees. i found if you do it above 65 degrees and in sunlight, it will form a skin that is unworkable in less than 5 minutes. Sakrete does not know how to apply this product. if you do a mix at 80 degrees during the daylight it will be unworkable for sure. Mike D. West Jordan Utah.

Could I use a cement mixer to mix several bags at one time to do a larger area? Are there any precautions to take?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Please follow the directions on the packaging! Mixing SAKRETE Flo-Coat should only be done using a high torque variable speed drill using a paddle mixer attachment. Mixing: One 18.1 kg bag requires approximately 3.3 L (3.5 quarts) of clean water. First add most of the water to a 20 litre (5 gallon) bucket. Then pour the powder into the bucket and mix with a high torque variable speed drill using a paddle mixer attachment, running at low rpm to avoid splattering. Mix approximately 2 minutes adding remainder of the water as needed. Let the material sit for 1 minute, then fi nish mixing for another minute to a lump-free, pourable consistency. Excess water reduces strength, durability, bonding and can cause cracking. Use cold water to slow the set in hot weather.

For a large area, how long a work time do you have for spreading the Flo-coat between multiple batch preparations?

    Asked by: Anonymous
depending on the weather temperature you would have approx. 30-45 minutes. Placement: Dampen the surface with water. Pour the mixed material onto the surface and spread it with a long handled squeegee. If squeegee marks are evident, drag a stiff bristle broom over the material immediately after using the squeegee. If done when the SAKRETE Flo-Coat is still fluid this will evenly blend the material together. Do not allow the material to spill into expansion joints and control joints, as these should be preserved with tape or other means. Finishing: For a textured fi nish, use a broom in complete strokes over the surface after SAKRETE Flo-Coat stiffens but before fi nal set. To build up the application thickness, use additional thin layers after each layer cures for 24 hours. CURING Curing means maintaining proper moisture and temperature. Allow newly placed material to set until surface is hard to the touch. Under most conditions SAKRETE Flo-Coat requires no special curing. When temperatures are above 32°C (90°F) spray with a fi ne mist for 24 hours. Protect from freezing for a minimum of 24 hours. Protect surface from rain for 8 hours.

What is the minimum temperature (in Celcius) to apply this product and for how long after does it have to remain above freezing?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Use only when the product, air and surface temperature are above 10°C (50°F) and remain that for a minimum of 24 hours. The substrate must be sound, clean, hard and free of dust, dirt, grease, oil, paint, sealers, curing compounds and other materials that will interfere with the bonding of the new material. Pressure washing is recommended with a 17 MPa (2500 psi) pressure washer. Prior to application, fill any cracks and pitted or deteriorated areas with Flo-Coat Resurfacer mixed to a trowelable consistency: 8 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. Allow any repairs to set before resurfacing begins. Curing means maintaining proper moisture and temperature. Allow newly placed material to set until surface is hard to the touch. Under most conditions Flo-Coat® requires no special curing. When temperatures are above 32°C (90°F) spray with a fi ne mist for 24 hours. Protect from freezing for a minimum of 24 hours. Protect surface from rain for 8 hours.
