Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for easy fence posts This is the easiest product to use for DIY fence and gate posts because you can mix the product right in the hole. If you have a wheelbarrow and are doing more than a couple posts, then other sakrete could be used, but you won't find an easier product to use, mix and add water straight into the fence post hole.

I have a 3 foot deep hole and using a 8" sonotube. How many bags per post would I need? Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Carlitto
Thank you for your inquiry. Please note that Rapid Post should ONLY be used for fence posts and is not suitable for deck posts. You will require about 2.5 bags of Rapid Post for an 8” builder tube at 3 foot deep. Please keep in mind that in most areas in Ontario it is best to aim for 48” deep holes so you can get below the frost line.

I am planning to pour a 48" deep, 12" diameter footing for a 6x6 post to support a clothes line (12' above grade, 4' below grade). Is this an appropriate application of Sakrete Rapid Post?

Asked by: sparky
Hi, Thank you for this question. Rapid post is not structurally strong enough for this application, The Vendor would recommend Fast Set Concrete Mix.

1 bag equals what 12" volume sonotube

Asked by: Wheelman
Depends how deep of a hole you are digging or how long your sonotube is. If you go 3 to 4 feet deep, you will likely need 2 bags.

The instructions say that the mix & substrate should be between 5 & 30 degrees for 48 hours after. However its April in Canada and while the daytime temps are above 5 the nighttime lows for the next 2 weeks are between 0-4, can this product still be used?

Asked by: acoady
It could still be used but you’ll reduce the strength of the concrete substantially. Water begins to expand at 4 degrees Celcius and continues to expand right up to the point it fully freezes. Any water still left in the compound will begin to freeze and expand. This will produce stress points, weak spots, and hairline fractures, all which will reduce the durability of the product over time. If the concrete has hairline fractures in it, those will retain water in the next few years and freeze-thaw cycles will cause them to break open even more.  Yes you can still use it, but you do risk not getting as much life out of the product. Try choosing a day where the overnight temperatures don’t go below 0, and pour it as early in the day as possible so that you have a longer dry time before the temperature drops again.

I'm building a fence. Should I use tubes or can rapid post be used without tubes?

Asked by: rogie66
SAKRETE RAPID POST may be used with or without a SAKRETE Builders' Tube. Local building codes may specify directly. SAKRETE RAPID POST is a pre-blended, rapid setting concrete material. It is designed specifically for fence posts and poles. Pour from bag to hole, add water and agitate with a rod or stick. SAKRETE RAPID POST sets in minutes so no bracing is required and the post can be used after 3 hours. FEATURES & BENEFITS • Mix in the hole • Rapid-setting • No bracing required USES For rapid setting fence posts, mailbox posts, basket ball poles, swing sets, and lamp posts. SAKRETE RAPID POST is not recommended to construct deck posts, walks, floors, slabs or footings. PROCEDURES Mix and substrate temperatures should be maintained between 5 ºC and 30 ºC (40 ºF and 86 ºF) for at least 24 hours prior to and 48 hours after. For temperatures below 5 °C (40 °F) refer to SAKRETE Fast Set. SETTING POSTS - Fence posts, mailbox posts, basket ball poles, swing sets and lamp posts. Hole Preparation: Dig hole with auger or shovel to required depth (hole should extend below the frost line). Allow 2 inches (5 cm) clearance on each side of post. A typical 4 inch (10 cm) x 4 inch (10 cm) post will require an 8 inch (20 cm) diameter. Mixing and Placing: Position the post in hole. Fill with SAKRETE RAPID POST and water simultaneously 2.8 L (3 qts) per 30 KG (66 lb) bag and agitate with rod or stick. Align post using a level and check the vertical position. There is no need to brace. SAKRETE RAPID POST will stiffen almost immediately. Do not rework once the mix has set. In cold weather, use warm water to accelerate the set. In hot weather, use cold water to slow the set. CURING Allow newly placed material to set until surface is hard to the touch. Then cover with plastic to prevent evaporation of mixing water. Post can be used after 3 hours. TECHNICAL DATA Initial Set: Approximately 5-9 minutes Compressive Strength: 7 Day 7 MPa (1015 psi) 28 Day 15 MPa (2175 psi) Thank you for your inquiry.

The approx # of bags required each 122 cm (48”) length with a hole Diameter 30 cm (12”) = 6.5 with no post. For your project most holes require with a post approx. 2 to 3 bags to fill the hole entirely. Approx.
