Given the issues with function in cold weather or battery failure, will the key still unlock the bolt if the keypad is not functional?

Asked by: BobC
I have not had that happen with this lock. Before buying this, I had a Weiser which was horrid on batteries. Reason being that Weiser unit drives the deadbolt back and forth whereas this unit the user provides the horsepower. The unit just locks up drive mechanism when you enter the code and then you have a few seconds to turn the deadbolt. We had a fair amount of -40 last winter and this unit did not fail.

I don’t know about water proof as i have it installed under a covered awning, but we’ve had -15c for extended days and I haven’t had any issues.

I have this on the front door of my house which also has a storm door, and it works well. I am thinking of putting one on my unheated detached garage. It can get down to -30°C outside and -15° inside the garage. Will this unit work when that cold?

Asked by: keddo
Good question! I'm not sure how the "electronics" and battery will react to cold exposure. Maybe a question for the manufacturer.

I am looking at purchasing 2 of these units. Can they be keyed to match current Schlage keys? If so, can they do it in store when you buy them?

Asked by: scootyetec
Thank you for your questions. Many, but not all stores have the tools and trained staff to rekey these for you. You would need to check with your local store. Otherwise, any locksmith could do this before you install them.

Does this door have the ability to lock itself after 30 seconds if people forgot to lock the door? Thank you.

Asked by: Mary
No, this lock must be manually locked/unlocked. There is not motorized deadbolt.

I have two Schlage locks in my newly acquired home. What is the procedure to change the combination?

Asked by: georgios
Here's the instruction sheet: http://www.schlage.com/content/dam/sch-us/documents/pdf/installation-manuals/237800341.pdf. You'll need the programming code. The programming code is probably on a sticker inside the lock. You'll need to partially disassemble the lock. (If I recall correctly, it's in the same compartment as the battery.) If the previous owners removed the sticker and put it on their copy of the instruction sheet, you'll need to contact them to get the programming code. Note that each lock will have its own programming code.

When I leave my house and I want to lock my door can I lock by entering the code or do I have to use the key?

Asked by: Bobfriendly
You can setup the lock that you have to enter a code or that you just have to press the top "Schlage" button. We have ours setup that we just press the "schlage" button to activate the lock when it is already unlocked. So when we leave our house we press the top button have have about 10 seconds to lock the door. Very easy.

does the cold weather affect battery life?

Asked by: Anonymous
THank you for your inquiry. In a standard application, the interior portion is located inside the home. The 9 volt battery that comes with the unit is positioned inside the interior housing, and is therefore virtually unaffected by the exterior temperature. There is very little transference of temperature from one side of the door to the other. In an application such as a side door into an unheated garage, or a door into some other unheated interior space, then yes battery performance would be negatively affected by the cold, although much less than competitors motor-driven models.
