Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive Garbage Hard pass. Had this for 3 months before the bolt wouldn't fully turn from the outside anymore using the keypad. It would beep for successful entry, turn 90 percent of the way, and then we wouldn't be able to enter our home. Thank God someone would either be home, that we were able to also carry a key with this model or enter through our garage. We changed the battery and did a factory reset with no change. Absolutely no longevity which is especially disappointing for a $300+ lock that we purchased with matching extra deadbolt and 2 entry handles. We didn't keep our receipt and now we aren't even sure if we'll be able to exchange this or if we're stuck with an expensive piece of garbage. Buyer beware.

Regarding WI-FI, I have strong wi-fi signal at my porch so i am 100% sure my wi-fi is working well checked it with other devices ring camera, cell phone, tablet all have good wi-fi connectivity from this spot. But lock's wi-fi connection is very slow and sometimes there is no network connection at all. I think this lock has poor wi-fi network card. It's not even clear if it will be able to update firmware. Because of that almost impossible to use app to open the door so i need to use code or key which is disappointing. For 367$ i expect stable and fast network connectivity.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned due to Safety Concerns Don't buy. I bought this to use with google. When I tell google assistant to "lock the door," it says it does, but it does not lock. This could lead to someone getting in. Kinda scary. I am super disappointed with customer service as no one returned emails and the phone agent wasn't really knowledgeable. Every other smart device in the house works and the previous Z wave smart lock on my house worked with google so I'll be returning this item cause I paid extra for this feature and it's not really safe and it doesn't work as advertised.

It was relatively easy to install and it works perfectly - impatient kids no longer need to have me open the door when we get home :) I think it’s great to make temp codes for people to get in when you’re away: feed the animals or just pick something up. You know exactly when the lock is used. The auto lock feature is great too. I really recommend this lock.

Called customer support and couldn't get a hold of anyone at Schlage, so I exchanged the unit for a wieser that's been working great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor battery life I bought this lock 2 1/2 months ago and the installation was easy. The associated app is also very good, lots of control and fast. The lock mechanism works very smoothly and is good looking too. Why only 2 stars? Firstly, the battery life is terrible. The Schlage website says 6 months between battery replacement. When I installed the lock 2 1/2 months ago, I used Everyready lithium batteries instead of the Duracell batteries that came with the product, as lithium batteries generally outlast alkaline. They went dead in under 10 weeks and the lock, on front door, is seldom used as we use the side entrance. I replaced the batteries with the alkaline batteries and in 1 week they went from 95% to 70% (the app has a handy feature that tells you the battery level). So with this lock, better stock up on batteries. Secondly, the keypad is totally black until it's activated by guessing where the numbers are, then it lights up. It would be better if the keypad had a button that was obvious to push to light up the whole set of numbers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid lock, with notification issues I installed this lock a couple months ago. The install was pretty easy. It comes with all the hardware you will need, for almost all installs. The function has been good, with smooth action and responsive buttons. My only complaint is the phone notifications. They only seem to come through, while using the phone. The push notifications can be very delayed if you are not using your phone. This is with all permissions on. I assumed they would fix this software issue, but I found people complaining about the same thing, from 2 years ago. It is safe to assume this is just how it will work. *it is attached to Alexa, but it's nice to see by default you can not unlock by voice. Good planning there. Voice is not secure on any device. Overall I would say it's worth a purchase, if on sale.

Will this smart lock work with 5 ghz?

Schlage Canada's website specifies the Encode smart locks connect to a 2.4 GHz. wi-fi network. The setup procedure for my Encode locks used default codes that steered me to connect to the 2.4 GHz. band although both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands were available.

Can the lock be re-keyed to match existing house keys? This way we would have one key for all locks and have the same key as the backup key for the smart lock.

Yes, the Encode must be paired directly to a Wi-Fi router to enable remote connectivity. This does not mean you must be at the location at all times. This just means the lock requires a gateway to send/receive information via the cloud. You can then communicate to the lock from anywhere so long as you have connection to the internet (either via Wi-Fi or a cellular signal). How long does battery last for a regular use twice a day?
