Rated 5 out of 5 by from ANSI Grade 1 Rating (Best) We've had problems with break-ins at our condo complex. Lock I had originally installed was a Weiser Grade 3 lock with a regular doorknob to lock and unlock. My friend is a certified locksmith fully bonded and strongly recommended this type of inexpensive lock that can provide more durability and he said it could take quite a good strength payload. Although I'm curious as to how much it can withstand. Anyways, I also told my insurance company about changing the locks on my storage unit at my condo complex as well as buying a 2nd one as my insurance provider even applied an additional discount on my home insurance by upgrading my locks. There are several other locks out there you can spend more money but this particular one can provide sufficient protection from any burgular and these type of locks are NOT pickable. Would strongly recommend this type of lock because of its ANSI rating and durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice colour Easy to install and work flawlessly. I coverted all my deadbolts over to Schlage as my Smart Key locks were finicky and my key stopped working after a year. Go with the Schlage locks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Just installed this tonight. Entire process took about 10 minutes and I had no problems. If you read the box before you buy it and the instructions when installing you should have no problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Reccomended I bought 5 of these locks 3 months ago. Installation.....okay, not great, but not bad. The biggest issue is they just don't like cold weather. If you buy these locks for cold climates make sure to buy a can of lock de-icer and lubricant at the same time....you will need it. Cold days it is almost impossible to get the keys into the locks, and when you do, it is almost impossible to get them out. Unbelievably frustrating. These remind me of the Taymor locks of the 70's and 80's! Just not as hard to install. 1-1/2 stars is a better score.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inaccurate item description Home Depot continues to sell Schlage locks advertising that they can be rekeyed within seconds using SecureKey technology. This is false and I have personally brought this to the company's attention previously. Schlage was forced to stop using the SecureKey feature many years ago after losing a lawsuit to a competitor. Home Depot needs to review all of their Schlage advertisements to remove this inaccurate information.

With regards to the strike plate and the lock is rated as an ANSI Grade 1 (Best) lock, what sort of "payload" (or strength) can it handle especially if someone were to knock the door over?

Asked by: JoeS
A dead bolt will keep the honest people out. If someone is intending on breaking in, no lock will stop them. If it is a real concern, alarm systems of various configurations with sirens will be the best deterrents. Schlage locks are very good.

Is this compatible with 3rd gen August smart lock?

Asked by: xcp1
Thank you for your inquiry. This is a single cylinder mechanical deadbolt. It is not an electronic lock which can be wirelessly connected. It comes with two keys for mechanical entry and exit.

Wrong product info. - this lock is not re-keyable

I got two sets and have read the boxes from head to tail. This lock set is not re-keyable. I got two sets and they share the same key. I wonder if the same model all have the same key from the manufacturer.
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. Schlage locksets are easily rekeyable at store level, by trained staff with the proper tools. They are not designed to be rekeyable by the consumer. Like other manufacturers (Weiser, Defiant) Schlage supplies a number of it's keyed products "keyed-alike", usually in 4's. This is done for consumer convenience so that they might purchase 2 or more locks using the same key. This information is usually located on the top of the package. Schlage uses the largest number of key cut combinations, over 75,000, thus the likelihood of finding any other locks with this same code, at the same store extremely remote. I hope this information is helpful.

Why are two different sets of lock keyed to the same key?

I bought two sets of this lock from Brampton Store, only after installation that I found they have the same keys. Are these all keyed to the same key? It will be very unsecured if it is true. Thanks

Does Home Depot carry extra secure keys (blue keys)?

In order for this lock to be keyed the same as your existing Schlage locks you need the secure key for your existing locks. If your locks, like mine, are a few years old you won't have the secure key. Does Home Depot carry the secure key?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. Yes, the store should have blank "blue" keys at their keying machine. They can duplicate your existing Schlage key on to the blank, which will permit your new lock to work with the old keys. They can get these blanks from their key center suppliers, Klassen Bronze or the Hillman Group.
