Rated 3 out of 5 by from 50% satisfaction I bought two of these. Brought in a locksmith to key them the same and to install (he charges $185 to park, the whole bill was close to $300). The lock on the back door is perfect. The lock on the front door has a manufacturer's defect. It unlocks perfectly but I can't lock it from the outside. Sure Home Depot will replace it but I'm still looking at a $200 - $300 invoice to have it removed, and the new one rekeyed and installed. Very disappointing level of manufacturing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install Simple system that works l, everything needed to install on almost any style or size of door. And the quality is superb and what is expected of Schlage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgraded at last! Finally upgraded to this model, after using another where the deadbolt mechanism was operated by battery, and was always concerned that I might be shut out with a low battery problem. Almost all the owners in our strata unit have now gone to this lock, for the same reason. Seems well made and easy to install. I needed a Bright Brass finish to match existing fittings, and Home Depot online was the only place I could get one! Lucky.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust and reliable This is the most reliable electronic lock since there is no motor in it. The battery will last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Have been using this lock for a couple of months now- it works well. We have a number of other motor driven electronic locks which are OK but can drag when the doors shift, batteries are low or in extreme cold. Won't be an issue with this lock

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks and works great easy to install, works great no more keys to deal with. Got it on sale so that was even better

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than motor-driven electronic deadbolts I bought this electronic deadbolt to replace one in which the bolt was (supposedly) driven by an electric motor. This one simply engages a clutch, given a valid code: the outside handle turns freely without the code; works like the inside one with the code. Advantages: (1) Reliability: the motor-driven one sometimes had to be cycled several times, even with fresh batteries and no obstruction, and probably would eventually have banished me to the cold. (2) Ease of installation: only slightly more complicated than a key-dependent deadbolt. (3) Battery consumption: (presumably) much less. (4) Size: only slightly bigger than key-dependent deadbolt.

1) What is the difference between a Schlage Plymouth Single-Cylinder Electronic Entry Door Deadbolt with Keypad Model # 39982 , and Schlage Keypad Deadbolt Plymouth Escutcheon Bright Brass Model # 90125? $164 vs $123

Asked by: Peter Calgary
I was unable to determine what product #39982 refers to in order to give you a detailed answer. 39982 is not a Schlage item number. Home Depot does run promotions from time to time on certain items and or finishes however, which may account for a price discrepancy on similar products.

Can the heart of a Schlage lock be replaced with the same part of my 20 year old Weiser that it will be replacing, so that I can use the same key on multiple locks?

Asked by: Peter Calgary
At one time there were kits available to some stores where this could be done. Weiser stopped using their "old" key-way about 9 years ago however, and these kits and their components were discontinued.

are you able to easily key this lock to an existing key

Asked by: sue1
Thank you for your question. Some, but not all Home Depot stores have the equipment and trained staff to rekey these locks to an existing Schlage key. Otherwise, any locksmith can perform this task.

Is there such a thing as a combined door lock and deadbolt?

I don't like the prospect of drilling and chiseling to add a deadbolt to my steel front door. It has just a locking knob now.
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. We make a keypad lock version that fits right in the same hole as your existing lock (see below). No other "drilling or chiselling "is required. In addition to being easy to install, it comes with a 9 volt battery that will last up to 3 years. It comes pre-programmed with 2 random 4-digit user codes. It can hold up to 19 different user codes.

Is it possible to replace the deadbolt over a regular deadbolt

I have a regular deadbolt and door system but I want this product and wondering if the holes and drilling can work also on my door.
Asked by: Anonymous
The two standard hole sizes for a deadbolt door preparation are 1 1/2" and 2 1/8". You would need to take the screws out of the interior thumb-turn to determine what diameter your application is. Most new doors offer a 2 1/8" standard prep. Like some other manufacturers, Schlages electronic products require a 2 1/8" diameter door preparation. If your door has the smaller prep, it can be upsized to 2 1/8" using a door hole saw kit which clamps over the existing hole.

Can the lock be picked or bumped?

Is it possible for the lock to be picked or locked or is it bumpproof and pickproof.
Asked by: Anonymous
The overwhelming majority of residential locksets currentlly on homes, by all manufacturers, use a "pin-tumbler" key cylinder which are susceptable to picking and bumping. These techniques require special tools and a degree of practice. There is some new cylinder technology that makes cylinders pick and bump "resistant", but not "proof." The Schlage keypad uses a pin-tumbler cylinder with pick resistant spool-shaped top pins and uni-directional nickle-silver bottom pins in a precision solid brass plug. In addition, this model requires that the cylinder plug be pushed in when attempting to activate the deadbolt.
