Rated 5 out of 5 by from A home run. I first bought one of the new biometric locks. I realised it was a mistake when I was stuck outside scanning my finger over and over for 20 mins. I returned it and bought the Plymouth. This is a quality product and everyone should have. It's better than other keypad deadbolts as the actual locking mechanism is done by had rather than powered by the batteries which can wear it out. Try it and you'll like it. After shopping around I think it's the top of the pack with excellent value

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than motor-driven electronic deadbolts I bought this electronic deadbolt to replace one in which the bolt was (supposedly) driven by an electric motor. This one simply engages a clutch, given a valid code: the outside handle turns freely without the code; works like the inside one with the code. Advantages: (1) Reliability: the motor-driven one sometimes had to be cycled several times, even with fresh batteries and no obstruction, and probably would eventually have banished me to the cold. (2) Ease of installation: only slightly more complicated than a key-dependent deadbolt. (3) Battery consumption: (presumably) much less. (4) Size: only slightly bigger than key-dependent deadbolt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 out of 10 lock - you definitely need this These door locks are great! This purchase was my second one, we decided we wanted the same convenience for our back door. We live in Canada and the fact that this is still a manual deadbolt is the ONLY way to go when it's a deep freeze outside and the door seals are like blocks of ice... I can't count the number of people I've recommended this lock to after hearing about their deadbolts not working in the freezing temperatures. As others have said - if your existing deadbolt is a smaller diameter it's a bit of a mission to increase the diameter. I ended up making a plug which I could put in the existing hole which allowed me to drill out with a hole saw to the correct fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well build deadbolt. I just installed this lock. It works great. The instruction were easy to follow, both installation and programming. Keep in mind this lock needs to be turned manually to actually move the deadbolt, I guess by doing that it makes the battery last longer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 50% satisfaction I bought two of these. Brought in a locksmith to key them the same and to install (he charges $185 to park, the whole bill was close to $300). The lock on the back door is perfect. The lock on the front door has a manufacturer's defect. It unlocks perfectly but I can't lock it from the outside. Sure Home Depot will replace it but I'm still looking at a $200 - $300 invoice to have it removed, and the new one rekeyed and installed. Very disappointing level of manufacturing.

What is the maximum number of digits that can be used for a single pass code?

Some pass codes are only 4 long, and can be guessed reasonably quickly. How many digits maximum can be used to form a pass code? Thank you
Asked by: Anonymous
Schlage keypad locks use a 4 digit user code. Unlike some other models that only have a 5 digit keypad, Schlage units use all ten digits. That gives you 10,000 possible user codes to choose from. The numbers on the pad are protected from wearing off by a bead of silicone so as not to show a wear pattern. The lock shuts down for 30 seconds after 4 incorrect entries, to resist tampering. Finally, adding or deleting a code takes seconds, and can be done without dis-assembling the lock.

My plymouth electronic deadbolt locked me out this weekend. Not the battery( light was green when code entered).I did change the battery- tried to lock/unlock with door open. I hear the mechanism but does not move the deadboldt. Also tried new code. Help?

Asked by: mjastr
The plymouth lock does not move the deadbolt automatically like some motorized locks. The mechanism you hear only engages the thumbwheel so you can turn it by hand.

Can this lock be used on a garden door with both sides outside (rain and snow).

Asked by: Guillaume
We have two and use them on garage doors (inside and outside), with no problems.  They work well.  I don’t know if the electronics can get wet so not sure if they could be used outdoors on both sides.  Good luck!

Can the heart of a Schlage lock be replaced with the same part of my 20 year old Weiser that it will be replacing, so that I can use the same key on multiple locks?

Asked by: Peter Calgary
No you can't as the heart on this Schalge is not universal. Though I once heard a smithlock saying that he could manually to open the heart and grind it so that it can take a Weiser key...but it was so complicated that he did not want to do it anymore.

does the key pad light up

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. Yes, the keypad will light up with a bright blue glow when the "Schlage" button, located above the numbers, is pushed. The lighting stays off when not in use to preserve battery life. The battery life in Schlage keypad locks is 2 to 3 years using a standard 9 volt battery.

Can this lock be easily rekeyed? (regular KW1 key)

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. This item, being a Schlage branded lock , contains a standard Schlage "C" keyway and uses the popular SC1 keyway. It is easily rekeyable to other Schlage locks using the standard SC1 key. That being said, a few Home Depot stores have access to Weiser and Kwikset rekey "conversion kits". These kits contain special plugs and pins that will accept a KW1 key. Not every store has a kit like this, or the expertise to make the conversion.

Can the lock be picked or bumped?

Is it possible for the lock to be picked or locked or is it bumpproof and pickproof.
Asked by: Anonymous
The overwhelming majority of residential locksets currentlly on homes, by all manufacturers, use a "pin-tumbler" key cylinder which are susceptable to picking and bumping. These techniques require special tools and a degree of practice. There is some new cylinder technology that makes cylinders pick and bump "resistant", but not "proof." The Schlage keypad uses a pin-tumbler cylinder with pick resistant spool-shaped top pins and uni-directional nickle-silver bottom pins in a precision solid brass plug. In addition, this model requires that the cylinder plug be pushed in when attempting to activate the deadbolt.
